The pity is that it was the government that de-regulated AT&T, which used to be the leading, gold-standard employer that all others had to compete with. Nothing better represents the "beginning of the end" than that particular decision. After that, it was every man for himself.
With the companies I worked for it was not only offered as a benefit, such as health care was, but also as a means to improve its own staff, foster loyalty (with the idea that employee turn-over was one of it's significant costs), and compete for the quality employees.
Some still do offer it, and the government should be bolstering those programs instead of trying to take over the student loan industry (which will only make it more expensive. Starbucks, Dell, FedEx, General Mills.. there are at least 20 I know of - but their numbers and the quality of the programs have greatly diminished since the 80's
Money and, more important. votes. I think it's far wiser to spread our fiscal power over a wide swath of individuals and companies rather than the government - where there is no accountability for the money going in, and none for how it is fraudulently mismanaged.
Galrads, cn you pop over to the Republican debate thread around #46 and weigh in? I think with your environmental background you could provide some clarity on things (I am admittedly not up to speed)
Trump cuts a paycheck every week to more than 22,000 people who depend on their jobs for food and housing. Sanders and Clinton just want to cut checks from other people's money.
I never said otherwise, but you assume it is merely corporate greed, whereas I think it is more corporate survival. With excessive regulations and taxes, our government has created an environment here in the states that is hostile to both business and profits.
In all likelihood, more regulations will only serve to weaken us while china continues to make $$$ off ignoring pollution controls. Same story, different day.
Not many countries have as much geography to cross to deliver goods and services either. Transportation and infrastructure "waste" eats up an enormous amount of our consumption numbers. Probably the same reason Australia's numbers are high, as well. I'm just saying you can't compare apples to oranges when it comes to these statistics. I don't think many countries have as strict regulatory guidelines in ALL areas as we do.
Australia has overtaken the USA and is now classified most at risk out of 185 countries, according to the CO2 Energy Emissions Index (CEEI), released by UK based, global risks analyst, Maplecroft.
I think if Trump wins we would see a whole new approach to managing our government and ALL our financial dealings with other countries. We have never had a true businessman in office and that's what scares the establishment pols... They can't compete, for one thing, and they provably will no longer be able to bury their tidy tax profits in secret slush funds
I'm not here to defend Trump, Purr. He doesn't need my help as he has already defeated all odds and remains the front runner despite all the big money in Washington. I was just stating the obvious. Obama and Clinton have been caught over and over repeating lies far more serious than a PERCENTAGE POINT, and look, Obama is still our president and Hillary might still become one if she isn't convicted first.
I don't know about that. People scream their indignation throughout entire presidencies. It may be more correct to say nothing ever gets done about it until the elections come around and the politicians need your vote
If all the reports are accurate, the FBI will revolt if Lynch decides not to indict her after they spent all this time investigating and find she has broken laws. Obama will undoubtedly protect her from losing her job, but I don't think the FBI is quite that corrupt.
Someone has filed a similar suit against Rubio, which is ridiculous given we have the 14th amendment. Just as Cruz's argument about Trump in the debate was ridiculous. I don't see how a lawyer could be that stupid, unless he was just going for the soundbite. Trump and Rubio were both physically born in the states, and under the 14th that automatically makes you a citizen, It's crap like this that makes me dislike Cruz He knows better, but he's counting on the public not knowing, which makes him a bit of a swindler
It seems little Rubio's star is fading, as much as I hate to see that. I don't give much credit to these reports, however, as he's been confronted before in debates and made clear that the critics were not calculating in all the factors= and he did it off the top of his head with no teleprompter to help him. Still it would need to be researched as they all will - particularly Sanders, who's numbers are by far the scariest. i'm just not sure its worth researching at this point seeing as it looks like its going to come down to trump and Cruz
