Well, I have been rationilizing the same way about it; 27 being almost 30. But, then I go back to sticking to my guns about the lower limit being nothing below 30. I mean 30 might even be too young. I guess playing things by ear, or perhaps playing with her ears might be the way to go and just not fret over it. Maybe we'll meet and she'll say, gad, you're way too old for me.
I realize it is up to me. Indeed, I stated that in my opening statement. Nonetheless, I am INTERESTED in what others feel about this issue. I'm not asking people to tell me what to do. I will do whatever I see fit. However, I am interested in what others feel is appropriate for themselves and I DO respect what others have to say, especially a consensus.
Well, the whole point is that I'm not all that comfortable with our age difference (which I haven't identified) and I wanted to see if I was too stringent with my age range that I set. I wanted to see what the consensus was.

About 2 hours ago, on another site a young lady initiated contact with me. In checking out her profile, she is VERY pretty and like me, in terrific shape and a non-smoker. We seem to share a lot of common interests. She lives only about 20 minutes from me. Sounds great so far, right ?
Here's the issue. She's younger, than the age range I set for ideal. My question is this; I am 43 and will be 44 in December. What do YOU think is the youngest woman a man of my age should date ? Don't get gross. I assure you she is an adult.
Since I love humor, you can feel free to joke if you like, but I am also interested in your honest opinion. I mean the ultimate decision is mine, but I am at least open to advice. I did reply to her, as I do with ALL people who initiate contact (except obvious scammers). I personally think it is rude not to respond.

I hope it works out for you. Since you haven't actually talked with him, however, you may not want to put all your eggs (no pun intended) in one basket yet. Since you built your confidence up, write to a few more people that meet your criteria, while you are on a roll and if one (or more) out of the bunch works out you can begin (multiple) friendships. Commuincating via e-mail is not a committment, unless both parties agree to that.

This also goes back to old England where there were thatched roofs. The pets used to go up on the roof to cool off and if it rained hard, sometimes the pets used to crash through the thatched roof. Again, no joke.
In reality this was due to markets in old London where customers who bought pigs were given a bag only to find out a cat was put into it when they got home. Thus, "letting the cat out of the bag" was revealing the truth. No joke.
