Taking yourself or life too seriously?

If you take life and the people around you seriously...does it mean that you are a responsible person...or does it mean that you cannot relax?
I know that we all have jobs and have to be responsible and act in a certain way but in the other part of your life are you a fun person or does your responsible part rule your life?
Personally, I take my work and my family/friendship/relationship very seriously...I respect all of them. My family and friendships are mega to me as is my relationship.
However, I am a bit of a piss taker, anyone who is a part of my life knows this about me..some people even say that I am a bit nuts..
Do you think that sometimes we get caught up so much in life that we have forgotten how to have fun or take a joke..pc and all that stuff?
Do you think that if we could be ourselves more often and have a laugh that life would be easier?
Imagine a life where you did not have to impress other people work wise or socially? bad choice of words cos I don't have to do either but do you know what I mean?
Yeah me talking smack again but my point being..Is the bigger part of your life the fun bit or the responsible bit??

RE: The Sweet Shop!

Woah..hold up there..Oh OK....I saw nothing til the all about me bit...sorry for being so self absorbed...or am I?

Round Ireland with a Fridge...

Yeah, McCarthy's bar was a great book too....damn I gave that away too. I always remember him being in a café...possibly in Donegal and he was saying how every teapot in Ireland dribbles lol, he was so right.rolling on the floor laughing

Round Ireland with a Fridge...

Has anyone ever read this book? It is about a guy who hitches around Ireland with a fridge (one of those wee ones that was in every dingy flat that I lived in in Dublin in the 80'slaugh )
He did it after making a drunken bet. I read it in the 90's when it came out. Just bought a copy in a charity shop the other day. The photos in it are hilarious. Just skimmed through it earlier and I couldn't help thinking that if he was doing this now, the effect would probably be totally different with hourly updates and mobile phone uploads to social media sites.
Anyway I am looking forward to reading it again, was delighted to find a copy as I gave my original one away years ago. Plus it is the kind of daft thing that totally appeals to me.blushing blushing rolling on the floor laughing
Evening allwave

RE: In need......

I love Dexter and Breaking Bad.
Like Lady Blackadder, I have watched a few episodes of Hannibal and not really sure about it. The Following was okay but I found it a bit slow moving. Watched the first series of Banshee and thought it was very good.
Yeah I watch all serial killer/ murderers type stuff.....

RE: your epitaph

Oh Crap....this really is it....
....and you better not be up there dancing around and saying I told you so!!!

RE: Improving CS

I like Fifi's idea about photography/ common interest thing...or whatever she said lol.
I know that there are certain things that some people would love to go to but find it daunting or boring to attend alone also.Maybe some kind of daytime activity would be interesting, like an art exhibition, museum etc. Also there are often some good plays on in Dublin that might interest people.
I personally don't have a problem going anywhere alone but sure it is always more enjoyable to have company.
CS is what it is but I have met some really great people on here that I would not otherwise have met.wave

Happy Birthday Westernstar...

Happy Birthday Westernstar...

RE: would most women sleep with famous guy on first nite beacuse of fame and money

Of course, sure all women are vain gold diggers. I have yet to meet a woman who wants to be independent and pay her own way in life. Sure why would we??? when we can get a big strong rich man to take care of us and spend all of his money on us???
What woman in her right mind would want to be independent and earn her own living?? Jeez next thing she would have an opinion on matters that should not concern her...she might even be able to do things for herself...God forbid...sure society as we know it would be in turmoil...
Imagine if we could vote...oh hold on..we can..yippeee...
Anyway of course all women would sleep with the famous guy for power and riches...

RE: The right to die.

I voted yes. I think that we all should have the right to choose. I am a great believer in living life to the end and trying to overcome every obstacle, however sometimes especially in a case like this a person may just want to end their days in a way that they feel is better for themselves and their family.
I watched a good friend die...she wanted to live for her family and for her two young daughters but thanks to a horrible 'disease....cancer..she just died a horrifically painful death. I was told by family members who were with her in her last minutes that they would never like to see anyone go through the pain that she did. I don't mean that she would have chosen assisted suicide but I believe that all of her family would have supported her if she had.
I have had this discussion with people (yes I actually know and talk to people in the real world...yikes..a world outside of CS..). The people who are against assisted suicide said to me..well that is all fine but what if a person becomes confused and no longer wants assisted suicide even if they did when they were in their full mental health? I believe that if any of us made this decision when we were fully aware then that is the choice that we made and wanted. I would certainly hope that if I made my wishes known to my family/next of kin when in my full health that they would honour that and not let their own emotions get in the way or second guess my decision. Either way it is a tough one and I would hope that none of us would be put in the position to have to make a call on it.
Like all other "moral" issues everyone has an opinion on what other people should do. I think that it is a personal choice and decision which should be made by an individual ideally with family support and that society should butt out.
Rant over...

RE: to forfill your life what would you bring into it?

Brad Pitt and a dictionary...

Seth McFarlane

Seth McFarlane

I am kinda getting into American Dad a wee bit...it takes a few episodes thoughwave
What so you think of this though??

Seth McFarlane

...Is he a genius or what???
I love Family guy...the sense of humour is so irreverent and so non PC...applause
Oh yeah...before I get bashed on here...yeah I have a sense of humour, maybe some people would not get my sense of humour that is fair enough. However I think that we all need to lighten up sometimes and realize that sometimes a joke is just a joke.... We are all fair game for a slagging..Cavan People, Kerry people, women, people with disabilities, Gays, Blondes, Men,. If I ever slag on here it is just slagging people that I know are able to take it and have a sense of humour.I do not see the harm in slagging anyone if it is respectful...

RE: Movie Recommendations???

I love Breaking wind...ooops meant Breaking Bad...just finished watching it and cant wait til it starts up again.
Mike had some good deadpan one liners, I like him and his "Dead Mackarel eyes!".

RE: Growing old - optional or inevitable?

Didn't have time to watch the video thing but it looks interesting.
Of course we are all going to grow old..if we are lucky enough.
I think it is how we handle it that makes a difference. Some people choose to lie about their age...that's fair enough...it makes them happy...so what.
Some people choose to go the botox stretched face looking way..again their choice...they must not have anything in life that they would actually like to be able to smile about...maybe their lives (unlike their faces blushing )have not given them anything to frown about either.
We are a society that frowns on physical ageing and sometimes we are hung up on how we look.
If you are not happy about how you look at 20, you probably will not be happy about how you look as you age.
If you are not happy with yourself and your life when you are younger then you might not be happy with your life when you are older if you have not done anything to change it.
We can blame a lot on Society and expectations but we are the only ones looking at ourselves in a mirror, physically and personality wise.
Personally, I think that life is amazing. I have reached this age looking the way I do, I have made lifelong friendships. The people in my life rarely judge me, well apart from when I am being an absolute a**hole and then they give me an earful.
Oops, just realized that this is mostly about physical health (now you see why my friends bash me!
blushing )
I think that sometimes unfortunately as we age, our body gives up before our minds. I have known people who have tried to stay physically fit right up to their 90's but then age kinda goes against them.
I definitely believe that being physically active slows the ageing process, as in being able to maintain independence and being able to take care of oneself. Just based on older people that I know.
Interesting thread and I will look at the link.
