The Suffering...

Embedded image from another site

My heart
is still mine
I know this
because it suffers...

The past speaks to me
take it from me
It tugs at my spine
I want to just run...

I have always been good
at walking away from love
through rejection
I have learned to reject...

I wear my armor
I am a warrior
Perhaps I should suffer
my hurt silently...

When love stabs you
is it wrong
to feel pain?

How can she love me
if she doesn't know
what hurts me?

Maybe that is love
allowing someone in
becoming vulnerable...

So far in
they can hurt you
but also give you everything...

Maybe love
is like a knife
we cling to it

grasp it
until the blood flows

Is this love?
being crazy about someone
no matter how much they hurt you?

I am still here
choosing to love
and not be a victim
but a victor..

I choose to love
let the flames begin....

The Burn II

My bed is winter
nothing burns
like the cold.

This poem is for her
the paper burns
words fly free

the smell of heartbreak
fills the air.

Tonight I burn
I shake

out of the moonlight

into the shadows
I burn to the ground

tear me into little pieces

cut me into
little parts
but just love me

I would rather
be blind
deaf
mute

than have a heart
that could not love her.

I love her
because
of who I am

when I am with her...

The River

It was years ago
she and I sought the river
thinking I was her lover
she already had a lover
the camp fire was lit
the crickets were singing
we were baptized in the river
her sleeping breasts awakened
opening to the moonlit sky
two pieces of fine porcelain
river garden lit foliage
much like the Spanish moss hanging from the trees
as down from the river banks
a horizon of dogs were barking

We picked blueberries
strolled up the river stream
I kissed her wet dark hair
made a hollow wish in the sand
she removed her dress
and I my wet pants and shirt
her skin mother of pearl
her thighs swam away from me
like shoals of startled fish
I was half cold
I was half on fire
we ran into the still night
down the long dirt roads
mounted on starlit mares

The southern gentleman I am
will not repeat whispers made
this night being a discreet affair
sealed with sand and kisses
we made promises to be kept this night
among the fragrant wild flowers
that battled the summer air

Perhaps we behaved like gypsies
I gave her a basket of fruit
covered with silk purple linen
she did not ask where the river came from
or where it was going
only that it had no past or future
I did not fall in love
she already had a lover
she told me differently
before we sought refuge at the river...

In the Morning...

Embedded image from another site

It is you
my love
I wish to see

When I open my eyes
in the morning
as I yawn and stretch

I touch your back
kiss your neck
this is my good morning

Let us take our fill
of love each morning
solace ourselves in love

When you awake
turn over my love
see me lying next to you

I will smile
it will be a new day
a forever day

Even if it's
a total eclipse of the sun
you will brighten my day

Come to me
join me
in a feast of love

In the morning...

The Summer Wind

Embedded image from another site

The summer wind today
Called to my soul
the odor of sweet incense

Bringing the sweet memories
of a woman
with the fragrance of roses

For now I have no roses
in my secret garden
all my flowers have vanished

But if she so wishes
I will plant new ones
and water the fertile soil

The summer sun will nourish them
the wind will blow again
and I will find her in this garden...

Jellyfish

Embedded image from another site

Floating about
effortlessly
red dome with tentacles
unbounded sea

Crystal red jelly
sea nettle lions mane
protecting yourself
stinging spines
burning most everything

Jellyfish
in water of light
sparkling dome bubbling

Floating among shoals of fish
red flame pulsing
the seas medusa
waves gently move you

Sea water shine
leaving no trace
sea cardinal
shiny as steel

Water at edge
float by my feet
may you have safe passage tonight
sea sage of silky movement
ever changing shapes...

Awake

Outside a dog
roams the street
the city is awake
no one is asleep

He is a creature
of the night
biting the men and women
who dare not dream

love is not a dream
I dream her
to awake and seek me
find me on the moist earth

Our love is not a dream
her kisses exist
her tender brown body exists
her kisses linger in my mouth

One day soon
we will ride horses
into sunset of orange sky
take refuge by the sea

I cannot sleep
my bed a silent boat
in landscape of open eyes
moss grows on my ceiling

The creatures of the night
prowl and sniff
fire hydrants and street corners
there is no sleep

The night owl calls
moon is drifting through the sky
I feel her warm love
like the moon in my arms....

One of me.

There was two of me
and one of you

Until I found you
my world was split in two

Plans for just one of me
Now we make plans for two

Gave up on love until you
You showed me love can still be true

One plus one equals two you see
Now there is just one of me

just for you...

Seagreen

Embedded image from another site

I wish
to be a heart
for her...

I want
to be her heart...

In the morning
of love
a song bird
her morning glory...

My soul
seagreen of sea
color of love
tidal waves...

In the night
hear my voice
in the morning
feel my heartbeat...

I am seagreen
soul
sea of passion
color of love...

Her pisces man...

Wolf...

Embedded image from another site

I am animal
I am the wolf
Your hunter and gatherer

I will hunt for you
lay my kill
at your feet

I will bite you
mark your neck
with my teeth

If the moon is round
I will howl for you

I become the wolf
hunt for you tonight
Just to taste the blood
of your chocolate lips

In my wolf skin
I seek your brown sugar body

I follow the trail
of your pounding heart

The hunter suddenly
become the hunted

You wrap your arms around me
I am captured in your embrace
time in relativity slows
all else fades to nothing...

Starlight Lover

Embedded image from another site

Hot summer night
I hear the moon
whispering to the stars

Constellations form for you
my lover
wear your starlight well

Tonight I dream of loving you
in so many languages
all speak the same
the words i love you

You in me
me in you

The north star
shines down on your dwelling
whispers your name
my love
wear your starlight well

Your love
disturbs my universe
without you
there is no time

Heal my wounded soul
with starlight shining love
love is our existence

You
the loveliest star of all...

Soul mate call....

Embedded image from another site

Your love keeps me awake
my heart beats for you
listen to my call...

I crave you
I shake for your touch
hard as any earthquake...

Your words
an unshakeable force
webs spun by our existence
gracefully intertwine us...

Now there is no me
without you...

Your face shows
stars as bright as the sun
my soul longs for you...

Listen, please listen
to my night call...

Can you hear my call?
just follow the sound...

My soul mate
the night wind blows
my desire for you...

If you could
slip into my heart
you would understand

A love so simple
without end

You know me
like no other
my heart
is your violin...
