Internet Love Affair

Even though
you are
a continent away
my sweetest dreams
of you
will drift
as the wind
through your
open window
and caress
your sleeping face..

Show me
how you feel
if only online..
I will see
your words
typed out
in the shape
of a heart...

Mishima

In Japan he led a life free of fear
A descendant of the samurai.
A life brief like a firework rocket
Exploding in the sky only to disappear...

Yokio Mishima's life shined like sun and steel
Writing, theater, temple of body and action,
Even bodybuilding three days per week,
Aware of words before flesh in a life surreal.

His pen was far mightier than katana sword
The divine wind carried his spirit away,
To a sea of fertility along with death poem
Through ritual suicide ending life to his own accord...

Mishima, the spirit of the samurai bows before you
Feudal lords rule your land no more.
We understand that true beauty attacks, robs and finally destroys
In poetry with a splash of blood even in a failed coup...

The song of the rain

Far off rolling thunder summons the rain
Soothing dry earth and restless heart
Pelting drops of music sing to me again
Sleepy lullaby to those who wake...

Liquid lyrics as ocean waves so calm
Each raindrop sings a hypnotic song
Images of island beaches and dripping palm
Adrift am I in my slumber canoe...

Tomorrow may bring high tide to port
Somewhere flowers will glow like diamonds
As ladies in waiting in some royal court
And children will wade in playgrounds of mud...

But tonight I drift off, pen in hand no more
Upon my tin roof drops fall and splatter
Sailing off in my dreams to some distant shore
On this rainy night nothing else really matters..

A Grandpa Morning

Mute morning of fall
even the birds are quite
He just doesn't hear anything at all...

It is morning but it feels like night
Dark blue black clouds overhead
Blocking the morning sun from sight...

Where's the morning paper?
No light, just dead man's winter
Cold morning like an arctic night...

Grandma says to put your coat on
You can catch pneumonia or the flu
Maybe the sun will be out before long...

Come in by the fire and have a sit
The hospital is not really a nice place
But it is there if you need it...

Because of you

This night I lay awake
Watching the hands on my clock
Numbering minutes no one will mark
Just useless insight this time of night
To remember promises made in unbroken dark
Whispered by you...

Recalling all the things you said
Through drifting clouds of thought
That run like a freight train in my head
Through my door you come and go
Just wish you would stay...

I reach for you and you're not there
Brings nightmarish thoughts I must confess
I say your name out loud in complete despair
Because peace of mind I no longer possess
Because of you...

Modern Persephone

The child opened her eyes
She did not ask to be born,
Into a world that so often denies
Understanding of the plague
That brings so many to demise...

They say it came from the monkey
From some far away jungle land,
Carried by man from shore to sea.
So many who had it did not understand
Until they gave it a name called HIV...

They told her mother it was HIV
It was not a result of shameful living.
She had known no dubious character or unclean company,
Out of the shadows some fools would be unforgiving
Carried away by this disease like a modern Persephone...

She is gone now to where i don't know,
Forced to be someone she did not know existed.
To me she blossoms when there is no cold or snow.
I see her when the green comes and vines are twisted,
When the spring sun comes on the flower with a warm day-glow...

Internet Person

Through endless void of cyberspace
I see your typed out words
Never knowing your true form face
Often wondering if I'm just being absurd
by guessing who or what you really are
From what planet you're from or what distant star..

Sometimes you state you are nearby
Turns out you're in some distant place
Asking me to book an airline ride so you can really fly
Luring me in to just another endless chase
Leaving me to wonder who or what you really are
From what planet you're from or what distant star..

Apology in Time

Since you walked out the door
No longer can I tell the time,
The hands on the clock do not move or play
to strike the hours with clang and chyme
marking the difference between night and day.

The spoken words were harsh and stewed
bringing not only your eyes but mine to tear,
If I take back the rain and storm from you
and reset our life to new day and new year
I promise you my heart this time in time anew...
