Reach out to me...

"Reach out to me" is the catch-phrase that replaced the old "Let's touch base"
LTB is already on my list of pet peeves for being over used.
The phrase "Call me sometime" must have died and gone to heaven.

It doesn't take long before I start mimicking people who constantly repeat themselves. I had a customer who repeated herself at least 3 times per conversation. I'm not sure if it's for her benefit or mine. Maybe she's trying to 'reach out to me.'

My brother used to say "Don't be so redundant" a lot and that always brought a smile... until I heard it a thousand times and shouted back... "Don't be so redundant"
Surely I was reaching out to him on that !!

I assigned a project to a general contractor to remove an old kitchen so I can install the new one and our meeting went smoothly on our first project together. As we were leaving, we thanked the client for his time and indicated we need a week or so to gather our information to present a final proposal.
With a smile on his face, the client replied... "Good, have your people call my people... "

There are usually THREE SIDES to every story...

From experience, I see there are usually three sides to every story...

1) He said
2) She said
3) The facts obtained when you do your own research.

Last week, I received an angry email (who copied the boss) from a contractor complaining we sent him the same drawings twice and no changes were made. Obviously, the owner doesn't like to see angry email and I had to followup with my people. After some fact finding, I see we visited his jobsite, made notes and submitted drawings showing what areas needed to be revised to fit the kitchen layout.

The contractor claimed to have revised our drawings, sent them back to our design department and we never made the changes. It appeared he didn't respond to our mail so it was sent again. Receiving the previous set with no changes annoyed him. His 'marked up set' of drawings didn't reach us. That happens as our mail server is on high alert status for spam and hackers. Could a phone call from either party have avoided this? Yes.

While I dislike 'being in the loop' for every communication through a staff of 10 or so, sometimes it's necessary. Between the emails, phone calls and playing diplomat, It can easily suck a few hours out of my day...

To believe Donald or the Ghostwriter...

Earlier in the week a news story hit about Donald's old taxes showing he had lost more than a billion dollars many years ago. That was around the time his book was published describing his savvy on deal making, telling a different story of his then finances. Years later, the ghostwriter of the book explained a different scenario then what the people were lead to believe about this man of extreme wealth.
Today another story hits the internet about the ghostwriter of a second book written by Donald and it too described the inner workings around Donald that differed from his outward facade.
Most people who read this blog will agree there is no doubt the stories by the two ghostwriters and the recent facts about Donald's taxes show a higher percentage of showman rather than businessman.
I'm not here to sway any opinion as the group of those who support Donald don't see any of those things. I equate that to a battered woman with 3 kids afraid to speak out... because "He's a good father to my children."

Thanks for reading my blog!

My parents were art collectors... well kinda!

Actually, they weren't. They kept a few porcelain knickknacks here and there. My brother sent over some hand painted plates when he was in Germany. The items I liked the most were some Asian scrimshaw carvings. Those items are coming with us to the condo.

When my Mother visited Italy, she purchased a small inexpensive image of 'Mary and Jesus' for one of the gift shops on the tour. I was explaining Easter (the religious version and not the bunny and hard-boiled eggs version) to my wife and I have a small 'last supper' carving on the arch leading into the kitchen in Miami. Chances are, it will remain there.

Anyway, I think 'Mary' is coming with us this weekend.

There's a really good chance my Dad's favorite will remain in Miami.

Your MAGICAL photo... putting your best foot forward

I've been on various dating sites for more than 15 years and I've seen some really beautiful women and their many photos. Usually, the best ones are studio work... professionally done. I've known a few women who have paid a few hundred dollars for a group of photos, often with borrowed clothing from the photo studio wardrobe room.

Naturally, these photos and the aura created by the photographer and crew cannot be matched. Their special photo (or group of photos) had perfect makeup and lighting.

Unfortunately, many women aren't ready to move on from the appearance they once had and continue to lure men with outdated magical photos. I've seen this scenario hundreds of times. I've also seen a radical difference in a 10 year old photo and a recent photo.

If you're honestly looking for a mate, a primary photo that is more than 10 years old should be retired or... put in the back part of your collection.

I see this in the professional world too. Stopping by an open house to see how some of the other (up for sale) neighboring condos are presented. A realtor handed me her card. I would not have recognized her comparing her business photo to what she looks like now. Sure... we all change and sure, she probably ordered 5,000 color business cards a few years ago and has to use them up.

Dating sites are different. Luring someone in with a great shot only to see totally different 'real world' photos would probably be a turn-off to the person who came to read your profile.

I look at it this way... If you are putting your best foot forward, be sure the other foot is strong enough to stand on.

I'll never forgive you Google...

Four years ago, I went shopping for a Smart TV. The salesman explained (at the time) the current Smart models had a processor/engine that was slower than some models that weren't Smart. I asked if I buy a non-Smart TV, how do connect it to the internet and his reply was with an add-on device called CHROMECAST.

His whole focus was, I should get a TV with a faster engine. The analogy was watching a golfing event and the ball streaking across the screen. Did I want to see the ball clearly or or a with a tail like a comet? The slower engine has limitations on fast moving objects.

So, I bought the TV with a faster engine and a Chromecast. It was great. Easy hookup and I was able to 'cast' YouTube videos to the TV from my desktop computer!

My son-in-law complained that he had to rent another 'box' from the cable company so he could watch Netflix on the TV in the bedroom. I bought him a Chromecast for Christmas and he said it was the BEST gift he ever received.
laugh
He preferred to control it via his cellphone. iPhone to be exact.

It's been months since I moved and we hooked up the 4 year old TV via the cable box as part of my HOA package, but... I didn't get around to connecting the Chromecast.

Last week, we purchased a new TV for the living room... yeah, Smart TV. This time, we had the option of one with a faster engine, much better than the older models. It's not that I wanted to watch golf balls streaking across the screen, I wanted something new. So far, I only hooked up the cable box and bypassed the setup routine.

The old TV got moved to the bedroom and this weekend, I got around to connecting the Chromecast on it. What a pain. Google Chrome for desktop no longer supports Chromecast. I've got to link everything to a phone (or tablet) to make things work now. That involves logging in to create an account as the new app that connects to Chromecast is Google Home, as 'we' now have to power to connect any smart device to other smart devices via this app. I say, f'king great...

Third time's a charm... Chromecast was willing but Google Home failed. It's amazing how I b*tch and send out service tickets and 'right after' it miraculously works!
Anyway, I have it connected to an old phone using Wi-Fi. What I didn't experience on my desktop is advertisements. I'm unable to play YouTube videos in Chrome, it routes to the YouTube app that not only plays commercials before each video, it's got them jumping up around the selections. One wouldn't go away until I made a selection.
very mad

Next time around I'll be looking to download ad blockers for YouTube and Chrome.

Ashes to ashes...

Ashes to ashes... to a lump of semi-burned remains. After reading what the cremation process involves, I'm disputing what we are/were taught to believe. It's not so easy.
I think bible experts have different thoughts about this, but a burned body leaves a lump. Teeth don't turn to dust. Most of the bones and remains have to be crushed by special machines.

If they had cremation chambers thousands of years ago, I'm sure they weren't fueled to 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit like the ones we have today. Not close.

Two years ago, a coworker died unexpectedly. He was in his 40's. We are coming up on the anniversary of his passing and I'll be asking the other workers/friends to get together to celebrate his life. He was cremated and his ashes were sprinkled over the land he owned in the middle of the state were he often used as a weekend retreat.

I didn't forget.

Chinese Bitter Melon...

My niece graduated from a college of Asian Medicine last year and (in the future) may enroll for the advanced studies in Shanghai China. She was talking to my wife at a party and got on the subject of vegetables with natural health benefits.

One that interested her was Bitter Melon. She described it's appearance and I said I recall seeing it in the local Asian market that we often shop at. I bought some for all of us.

My wife prepared some that was sauteed with carrots. It looked okay and without testing a slice, I put a bunch on my plate.

Bitter may not be the correct word... it stuff is horrible tasting! I ran to the refrigerator for some vinegarette dressing to mask the flavor and continue to choke down the rest.

My wife asked if I wanted more... laugh

Toxic...

For the record, the levels of hate and toxicity in the recent blogs and blog comments are reaching a high. I've been a member here less than a year and my opinion is my opinion and nothing I've read here has made me change my opinion. I'm reading fewer blogs because of the level of hate that is running through this place.

One member holds a torch that sheds light on a president surrounded by corruption yet eight other members repeatedly call him names and tell him he's wrong about the links and data he post to support his beliefs. From my view, it looks like one blogger is being stalked by eight obsessed bloggers.

What would happen if he disappeared from the blogs. You would only have a few blogs of praise for the president and how he's doing such a fine job, as though he has the Midas touch. Oh, and the rest of the members (who haven't left) would be blogging about OTHER THINGS.

I haven't seen any moderator action in a few weeks. I notice things like this.
A scammer sent me a message that contains website a link, most likely a toxic link. I reported the member and the profile hasn't been closed. Typically, I see a few bogus profiles have been created each week. That's changed too. At least 20 new profiles came online in the past few days and many are using photos that link to Russian sites.

Standing Ovation...

I'm watching videos today when I should be working. Busy week with back-to-back appointments Thursday and Friday. Enjoying a little break and surfing some YouTube videos. I came across a live performance of Whitney Houston that was spectacular. At the lift (musicians term where a song changes pitch, tempo or drive) the audience rises and gives her a much deserved ovation.

It's always great to hear a singer who doesn't need studio effects to sound good!

Whitney... a rise to fame and at the age of 48 a fall to her death via cocaine intoxication.

Pumps...

I'm told Pumps is the name for high heel or platform shoes.
Years ago, I had a niece living in my spare bedroom. She took a job transfer to another state and literally, bailed on me. Naturally, she left me with bags of her shoes and clothing that she deemed 'too much to take' and gave me permission to dispose of these items as I saw fit.

A mile from me is a clothing donation station that has seen my face many times over the years. I disposed several pairs of her pumps a while back and I believe there are more. The problem I have is her 'nosebleed high heeled shoes' that no homeless person could possibly use... well, unless they are a street walker! I didn't have the heart to put them in the garbage.

This weekend, I have plans to be back in Miami and clear out more things... including clothes I no longer need. Time to bag garments that will be used for the needy.

Drop a dime...

I remember the old style pay phones and maybe you do too.
They had a coin slot at the top and it was ten cents to make a local call.
This was more than 40 years before they invented caller ID.
Doing so, made it easy to be in informant of illegal activity and not having the call traced.
A simple call to the Police to let them know of some suspicious activity and hang up.
That's where the term 'Drop a Dime' came from.

Pay phones have become a thing of the past.
Hopefully, no one reading my blog has money in a pay phone company.
I knew of a guy was was on the front technology for phone cards that offered low cost long distance service. That lasted a generation and all the competition made rich men poor men if they didn't get out when 'everyone and their grandmother' was selling phone cards.

Soon after, low price cellphone plans put the 'kibosh' on calling cards.

I still see pay phones everywhere I go.
Unfortunately, if I didn't have a cellphone, it would be a long walk to find a pay phone that actually worked!
