Maneki Neko the Chinese waving cat...

Maybe you have seen Chinese restaurants with a ceramic cat statue near the front of their store. Typically, the paw of the cat articulates, moving back and forth as though it's waving.
I'm told it's to bring them good fortune but all the research I've done has different stories to the origin of the waving cat.
One website called it the Maneki Neko, Lucky Cat (or Fortune Cat) and it's commonly placed in near the cash register.

Folklore? of course and the story I liked best, was a the shop keeper with a failing business. He was off the main path and people didn't always see his business. Unable to pay the rent and worried about having to close his business he left the door open one day and a stray cat wandered inside looking for food. Without much food for himself, he fed the cat and went to the back to continue moving things and preparing to move.

A customer came inside and made a purchase, soon after another, and another, and another. This went on for a few hours and though delighted to have so much business he was puzzled as to how his luck changed and so quickly. It was then he notice the cat he fed earlier that day was sitting in the front window with his paw up waving as though to summon people to come inside!

Is this version BS? I don't know, but I mentioned it a few times and people I've told think it's a good story to hear!

DRONEon 2...

"... Having a drone fly overhead, and I think nobody knows much more about technology, this type of technology certainly than I do. Having drones and various other forms of sensors (I think he actually said censors) they're all fine but... they're not not going to stop the problems that this country has."

President Trump has spoken. See for yourself.

I had no idea he was such an authority on drone technology.

I selected entertainment for the blog category because WTF wasn't a choice!

the master baiters...

Somewhere in the world a retailer is selling mattresses at 70% off. They are the whores of the furniture business. Placing an online order is easy, expecting delivery is something else!
Three weeks ago I placed an order for two mattresses. A few days after the tentative ship date, I called to get an update. I was told they needed to contact the manufacturer and they would get back to me. They didn't. I called again a few days ago and heard the same story. My third call was today to get a shipping update and I was told they have been discontinued by the manufacturer.
Requesting to speak to a supervisor my complaint was they are still for sale on your website! His comment to me was I need two re-select. They have no control over discontinued products. We all know the products that are not discontinued are nearly double in price to the ones that lured me to the site that I bought.

They are the master baiters very mad

DRONEon 1...

There are few public parks with model aircraft flying sites provided by Palm Beach County - Parks & Recreation where people go to visit and fly airplanes, helicopters and drones.

One problem is many are within 50 miles of president Trump's Mar-a-Lago retreat and the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) has banned all model aircraft on days when he's in town.

I believe the normal restrictions are 400 feet maximum altitude and no flying within 5 miles of a commercial airport.

So any Palm Beach modellers who only fly weekends and holidays get shut down when the president is at Mar-a-Lago on those days.

Happy flying... !

Work Ethic...

Lots of choices, but hear me out on this...

Work hard all year and relax on the last day.
Be a go-getter and start off the new year running.

_or_

Work hard to finish off the year and be a slacker on the first day.

_or_

Slack off on the last day of the year and slack off on the first day of the new year.

Some of my neighbors celebrated the new year by playing music until 4am.

Oh... say it ain't so!

Two daughters of (the late) Doctor Larry Braunstein came forward to say the podiatrist diagnosed (the young) Donald Trump with bone spurs in 1968. That diagnosis was enough to get Trump a medical exemption for the Vietnam War draft.
According to one story, Braunstein did it as a favor to Trump's father, Fred who was his landlord at the time.

Oh... say it ain't so!

OIL...

I take issue with oil.
Not petroleum based oil or oil/fat derived from animals.
My issue is with plant or 'vegetable oil' and that includes nut oils used on foods for eating (or cooking) and not oils used in cosmetics or paint products.
There are lots of oils in the marketplace.
If I want olive oil, it states it on the label 'Olive Oil' and some come from virgins.
Some olive oil is blended with other (read: cheaper) oils to get olive flavor at less expense.
Peanut oil is a favorite for some who cook in a skillet or wok as it has a higher smoke point and can be used successfully for frying.
Corn oil, nice color and sweet taste.
Sesame oil is used in many Oriental dishes and has a distinct flavor.
Sunflower oil for cooking
Safflower oil is often used for roasted nuts.
Coconut oil from coconuts
Cottonseed, Rageseed and Canola for cooking.
There are bunches of more exotic oils too numerous to mention.

So the issue? Vegetable Oil... WTF is in vegetable oil?

Every brand and every bottle I checked was... 100% Soybean Oil.
That's right. I found you cannot buy bottles of soybean oil because all the soybean oil is marked vegetable oil.

How deceitful is that? Why can't they sell soybean oil for what it is... soybean oil.
very mad

Next, I'll be checking bottles of Baby Oil as I have my suspicions that too is incorrectly labeled.

You may have noticed when speaking into your cellphone to convert to text, it leaves much to be desired.
One funny story I recently heard was a woman asking her father if he was 'bringing mom' for a visit. She didn't read to see if what she said came out correct or not before sending the text message.
The message she spoke was "Dad, I'll meet you at the house around 4. Are you bringing mom?"

The phone understood it as "Dad, I'll meet you at the house around 4. Are you banging mom?"

Dad's reply was "No dear, not since she closed up shop"

The woman was red faced when dad arrived!

Dots what I see...

or don't see.
As I scroll up and down the list of members and their blogs, there is a 'dot' indicator showing on the profile photo who is online (green dot) of offline (or inactive) with a grey dot.

Some profiles (4 or 5) have no dot at all.

I'm wondering what settings they have to make them living in a dotless society...

70's Rock...

Year end and there will be lots of music marathons with countdowns of my favorite Rock bands from the 60's and 70's.

I'm listening to some David Gilmore and Pink Floyd and realized that not only was it music from the 70's, that many of the Rock musicians I listen to are IN THEIR 70's!

What a huge list of talent...
David Gilmour 72
Ron Wood 71
Tony Iommi 70
Jimmy Page, 74
Andy Summers 75
Mick Ralphs 74
Brian May 71
Jeff Beck 74
Robin Trower 73
Eric Clapton 73
Ritchie Blackmore 73
Pete Townshend 73
Steve Howe 71
Ted Nugent 70
Keith Richards 75

How's that for a twist on 70's Rock!

Part of my day involves reviewing manufacturers specifications for kitchen appliances. All of the documents can be viewed online or downloaded for reference. Most of the instructions are PDF versions of printed booklets that are included with each appliance. Owners manual, assembly instructions, parts list, etc.
Since they were formatted for print, they have to conform to certain methods used in the printing/bindery industry.
They start out with large pages, often 6 or 7 feet long sheets that get printed on both sides on huge printers. Then the pages get folded, stapled and the edges get trimmed creating booklets. Since the folding process yields an even number of pages, any booklet ending up with an odd number of pages has to have a filler page (usually) at the end. Some companies are thoughtful and add lines for notes and some companies leave a blank page so you don't think something is missing, they mark:
