No strings attached...

I haven't played guitar in a few weeks. The last time, one string had popped. It was high E and I only had a spare B string so I put it on. I know it was too tight and wouldn't stay in tune, so that was only temporary. We were away from the house 3 days and now 2 more strings have popped. If this keeps up, I'll have no strings attached!

Actually, the guitar may be too loud for the condo and I'm thinking of packing it with foam or getting one that's only semi-hollow body... very quiet.

The good news is there's a music store 2 miles away!

Blogging Drunk...

I did a PSA blog the other day and remembered a blog I did years ago. It was called Blogging drunk. Same idea, different dating/blog site.

We all know consuming large quantities of alcohol can influence your moods. Some people get happy... and some don't. This is for those who blurt out things they wouldn't normally say in a public venue, especially if it's something in the forums or on another persons blog... something they cannot retract.

The next morning (when sober) they read what was said the night before while under the influence and are so embarrassed they have to close their profile for a few days until the smoke clears and come back later as though nothing had happened.

It isn't often, but some blogs (or blog comments) are so bad the member has to cancel their account!

I've noticed the CS format is different. The comments don't disappear when a member closes their account. Most other blog sites pull you out... if you close your profile, all your blogs and comments to other members blogs disappear when you go bai bai.

laugh

So take it from me... avoid the embarrassment. Don't blog drunk!

Photo Lab...

For a while now, I wanted to try the Photo Lab services at the Walgreens pharmacy.
They offer poster sized 16" x 20" enlargements for $30.

I need to find the right picture frame first so I can crop the images according to the border. They have the ability to do borderless prints, but I would crop the image to allow for a frame if that is what I decide on.

Typically, they advertise prints in an hour. They have one lab about 2 miles from my office and I talked to one of the technicians who told me when they aren't busy, they can do prints in 10-15 minutes.

If you have photos on your cellphone, you can plug it into their system for preview and download. I declined wanting to connect my phone to a device that can capture the 4,000+ images contained there, instead I'll save the images to a blank memory stick so ONLY those photos will be read by their computer.

Venue: Bringing up old blogs...

The CS blog counter currently shows 60,495 blogs. I see occasionally someone will bump an old blog and bring it to the top. It's interesting to see what topics people have written about and how many good blogs that didn't have an audience faded away so quickly.
Time permitting, I would like to read more blogs from the older members who no longer visit this site. It appears that many of the well known bloggers weren't here to find a mate, but came here for the interaction of blogs and forums. I used to blog on another site and noticed much the same. Blogging about gardening on a politically active blog site didn't get many responses. Some fade away for that reason.

It's all about the venue.

Entertainers know that. Growing up and watching lots of TV, I would hear about comedians working resorts in 'The Catskills' where they learned what jokes worked best for general audience tourists. They wouldn't get the same response from working in Las Vegas because the audiences there are different.

Dear Doctor...

Dear Doctor, last week my turds started floating. The nurse at the clinic said it's because I need more iron in my diet. I told my carpenter friend who gave me a box of cut nails and said to suck on these and it will raise the iron levels in my body. I did, but I accidentally swallowed one and it's been giving me stomach cramps and now my poo doesn't float, but has a reddish brown color. Calling your office for an appointment isn't quick as they booked me 2 weeks out. In the mean time, I pulled down the shower curtain and use it on the mattress so I don't leak and stain the bed sheets. Hopefully, someone will cancel and your office will notify me if they can take me sooner. If you have any recommended medical advice you can give over the phone, please call to let me know.

My counter blog...

Inspired by a comment on the silver bullet blog, a company we get solid surface tops from has always used the 'template method' of manufacture. They send a technician to the jobsite right after base cabinets are installed. He brings 1/4" thick strips of wood that are 3" wide by 96" long and lays them over the cabinets to simulate the finished size of the countertop they are going to fabricate. With a hot melt glue gun, all the pieces are joined. He carries the finished template to his factory where they lay the templates on the slab(s) of stone to decide how they are to be fabricated. If there is a special grain or pattern in the stone slabs they may ask the client to visit the factory to 'map out' the cuts, especially if any of the pattern needs to be matched. An example would be a diagonal stripe in the slab could be continued into the backsplash. That often requires additional material and the customer would have to approve changes.
We recently updated one of our vignettes and the technician was there today to template for a new countertop. Instead of the normal template, he had a laser scanning device designed to replace the template. At the corners where the top was to go, he attached some brightly colored tabs that reflected back to the scanner and the image of the top appeared on the screen. Newly implemented less than a month ago, the technician checked and rechecked physical measurements against the scanned measurements.
It was a simple straight top with a farm sink cutout. It probably would have been 10 minutes with the strips. Today, it was easily 45 minutes with the laser scanner.
I researched the price of the scanner with software and it's $12,000. There are other modules needed control computerized cutting. Full implementation of a computerized scanning to cutting system could be in the $100,000 to $200,000 range. Obviously, they need to work on the details of being cost effective and replacing the archaic system of saws and templates. Especially in small to medium companies who don't have the volume to justify such large purchases.
Over the years I've heard success and horror stories about implementation of (emerging) technology. The same machinery in one factory makes them successful and in another factory go bankrupt.

So ends my counter blog...

Shangri-La, Georgia and other non-existant cities...

Not every scammer uses a bogus address. For example, I've seen many women from Philippines working in another country and list Philippines to let you know they aren't native to their current location. Hong Kong is a perfect example. Many are there under work assignment and could put Cebu, Hong Kong as their location.

I'm from 'The sun and fun capital of the of the world..." Miami Beach aka Funkytown!

So if you say you're from Beijing, LA then that's the way you want to be identified.
At some point in time I'll be moving to Delray Beach, but for now, I'm in North Miami.

I see one scammer returned this week using: CANADA, Virginia, USA

I'm waiting to see someone from Kokomo, Phoenix.

Critter Ridder...

The people in the house behind me have cats... lots of cats. Normally, they don't bother me, but now that the weather is cool, they like to mate and that happens in the early morning hours where they fight over mates and territory.

The aroma of cat urine in my carport and front porch is a declaration of war and I don't plan on losing this battle.

A trip to The Home Depot and a spray bottle of Critter Ridder should do the trick.
It's an animal repellent with some hot peppers in the ingredients.

We're off for a few days at the condo and this should convince them to stay away!

Gorilla Snot...

My niece lived with me for a few years while she completed school. After, she got a part-time job as a waitress and enrolled in college. She stayed for a year after I married but her presence was often annoying as coming and going all hours of the day. It was time for her to move on.

The restaurant chain she was employed by offered her a transfer to another city and nearly all her belongings left my house with her. She forgot a few perfume bottles and DVDs.
Today, I see in the medicine cabinet a hair gel called Gorilla Snot.

Kinda sticky substance that dries hard... like wallpaper paste!

That was some strange hairstyle she grew out of.

National Pizza Day...

I heard it on the radio this morning that today, Saturday February 9th, 2019 is National Pizza Day and (sadly) I didn't do anything about it.
Checking a few websites, it lists lots of places that are offering specials on pizza.
My wife is with a girlfriend celebrating the Chinese New Year week long celebration. Maybe when I pick her up later, I'll suggest pizza.

She didn't like pizza originally, probably because the pizza in China is sweet like a breakfast pastry... at least the stuff I tried. It looked like pizza and tasted like something else.

Anyway, we're a few miles from an Italian Restaurant that makes really good pizza.

Mmmm... pizza!!
