Something to get off my chest (rage blog)

This blog contains profanity. If you are sensitive or frown upon swearing, then stop reading now, and retreat to a safe space, where nobody can hurt you. Snowflake..

Okay, Denmark.. I see you.. Usually our summers here are pretty mild, almost cold. It's rainy and windy, and we usually don't see any sunshine for 95% of the summer months. But - sometimes, the summer is so blisteringly hot, that you have trouble sleeping, you change shirt three to four times in a day, you are sticky 15 minutes after you took a shower, and the grass turns yellow, because of the lack of rain and moisture on the ground.

HOW is it possible to be THIS f*ckING sticky? I mean, come ON! Jesus f*cking Christ, dude! I am sorry for swearing and being blasphemious, but really.. How much more can someone take, before they snap and go f*cking postal? My laundry use is through the roof, because I change my shirt so often. I changed my shirt THREE times yesterday. "But why change so often? If you don't change, then you don't have to do as much laundry?" Honestly, I hate being sweaty! It is my biggest pet peeve. Being sticky and sweaty has to be the least enjoyable thing ever! "But why don't you turn on the AC? Surely, you have that?" No, we don't. Denmark isn't hot enough to justify AC in our homes. People, who live in houses, they might have it, but I am not living in my own house. I am renting a room at a friends place, and my bedroom is on the top floor, right underneath the roof - which is black. This summer we are having now, isn't helping with the temperature here. At all!

f*cking hell, man. I don't like heat, at all. 15 degrees C with a nice wind is more than enough for me. For all you Fahrenheit people, 15 degrees C is 59 degrees F. When the temperature gets to 20 degrees C (68F), I am starting to turn on a desk fan. When it hits 28 (82.4F), like today, I am DYING! I literally don't know what to do with myself. 30? Forget it. 35? f*ck that, just bury me in a pool, please.

I f*cking hate this summer. I wish it had never happened. On top of that, money is tight, I lose friends faster than I can spin around, and I get hammered with messages from my roommate about tiny crumbs on the floor in the kitchen. It's small crumbs, not a nuclear weapon. Chill the f*ck out and let the robotic vacuum cleaner with WiFi, or whatever the f*ck it has, clean it up on its next turn.

God I can't wait to get my saved up holiday funds. Then I am finding my own place and then I am moving out. This whole roommate thing has taught me one thing: Never - EVER - bunk up with a friend who is obsessed with having the latest tech. He LOVES to tell everyone what the prices of his stuff are. I don't care if a TV is expensive. As long as I can watch what is happening on the screen, I am happy. I don't really care about 4K 60 FPS on EVERY-f*ckING-THING. I am fine with my cheap 4K TV, honestly. I don't care about him buying the top of the line shit that he has, just to be able to prove he is better off than anyone else. He has a daughter, who he owes child support to. But instead of paying that, he spends his money on expensive stuff. When all this covid shit started, he went out and bought one of those JBL party speakers. Then he bought another one. Then he bought his stupid f*cking 70 inch QLED tv, and a sound bar to match it. He then paired the party speakers to the sound bar, resulting in annoyance. Honestly, I hate the dude. I am only here, because I don't have anywhere else to go. But once I do have, he can go f*ck himself. For real. He is this f*cking alpha male ubermensch type guy with super sight (his words), who LOVES to berate others. He loves being proven right all the time. It's just an annoyance at this point.

I think I need a hug.. A long one..

Okay, breathe.. It's gonna be alright.. Just a few more months to go..

82 F. is a beautiful day to me. 95 F+ is hot.
I played 4 games of softball in a tournament on Saturday in 84 F. no problem.
I guess growing up in Denmark you are used to it being colder.
My suggestion is never go to Florida or Arizona in the summer.
It would RARELY get below 85 F. in the summer there with many days in the mid 90's.
Nice venting Phil, I don't do heat very well myself.. summer here is normally between 20 and 30 degrees, really hot days 35+.. I sweat my guts out every summer, so this winter i brought a mountain bike to try and get a bit fitter.. and hopefully combat the sweating in summer, i'll keep riding into the summer to get myself use to it..
As for flat mates, you will have deal with that one yourself mate..
You're getting too worked up, you need to Chill. laugh
Yesterday it was 88f i had my granddaughter and we played outside very warm out.i have two fans in my home and they work great.cool down things will get better.
Heavens, a lot of bad focals here wow

I blame it all on bad schooling professor

We've had mid 80s -mid 90s for about 6 weeks now. The heat won't kill ya the humidity will.
Another 3-4 weeks we'll be plopped back into the freezer. We usually don't get too much of an autumn
season or spring for that matter. Try to keep cool. Fill a hot water bottle with some ice cubes. Throw it
in your bed. It might help keep you cooler at night.
You have a way with words, I can feel your pain.. thumbs up

I live in a 550 square foot apt I recently added on to my home, and facing south it gets hotter on this side. I shade my windows, but still uncomfortable, I feel you there. And I'm not rich, but well enough off that I'm not struggling financially, kind of a reversed situation as you.

My room mates are my daughter, your age, and family living in the two bedroom main house, mostly to share lower expenses and help maintain the home. Presently she is unemployed, but both have been unemployed off and on throughout their marriage, have one child and no savings.

Anyway, longer story short, some times they do things that are annoying, heat, humidity, covid and social distancing, can't help feeling worse, hang in there..

Yea, the heat will do that to a person.

Last week it was over 100 degrees here.

I don't like humidity with heat.

Sweating and smelling myself is not lady like. scold
^^^I sweat when I'm dancing, the ladies always respond well to the clean fragrance free pheromone essence.. wink
Jac ~ Thanks for the laugh on ramping up the landladies bill. My friend was a right cow when she was landlady. She'd come in and say 'what's the heat doing on ? it's not cold' and it would be freezing. Constantly cutting down and I was paying full rent for an ok bedroom and never really felt the living room or kitchen was mine.
Yep, I should have left gas on, hot water on, but I didn't. We are still friends who meet up once a week but recently she said she was getting in foreign students when pandemic is over , I just said 'God help them'.

Humidifier ~ Thanks Jac. I think the rating a would mean not too high on electricity. I have thought about getting a pay as you go in the hall. You can put 50euro in per 2 weeks. I will go and have a look in Harvey Normans or one of our shops. They do make a difference, it's the hum I hate so a silent one would be nice. I can get a musty smell in my bedroom and it drives me mad. So unhealthy. I use aromatherapy oils and all type of things to get rid of the dank damp smell. Thanks gain Jac.
GG, "I can get a musty smell in my bedroom and it drives me mad"

It may be poor ventilation. Check the Window or wall vent. Sometimes you find that someone has stuffed paper in them. Older houses had ventilators, new ones often don't. If there are no ventilators, you should fit one or at least open the window or door. A de-humidifier won't give you fresh air. Maybe talk to a builder.

Apologies Philipsen for being off-topic.
Jac ~ have you a landlord/Tenant advisory agency ? I used run one so I had to study landlord tenant law and also landlaw and being able to detect dampness and the rules of letting. She was bang way out of order and she should have compensated you and had you known, you could have brought her through the small claims court of just via a solr. who was good at landlord tenant act.
Under Irish /UK law 1980/82 Landlord/tenant act you are entitled to peaceful and quiet possession of the property. Your bedroom should never be entered by the landlady or landlord. This in violation of your privacy [peaceful possession ] plus basic wear and tear is allowed for.
I pity the present tenant if she has any as people like this don't tend to change.
There are agencies in some parts of UK, not sure about Wales. wave
Back to Philipsen. In the summer while my house is cool the attic is unbearably hot. I would think that it would melt a bar of chocolate, but I didn't try that. 5 minutes is enough for me up there.
However I wondered if you could get advice from the relevant agency about your problem. A landlord probably wouldn't get away without insulating the underside of the roof in an attic room in Ireland. It would have to be considered habitable and yours is not. Also the roof could be painted with a reflective paint, some flat roofs are. A drawback would be that you couldn't live there while work was being carried out.
I don't know if you read these comments. (Respond with the word 'Cool' if you have. laugh )
Jac ~ I'm glad you told me about the meters. Somebody did say they had them installed and that the amount of money that was gone during summer just because the meter was still ticking, actually used up units.... a con.

I think it's really for people who can't budget. I will stick to paying the bills online. We have very high Gas and Electricity bills plus phone. I still have a landline, as many old neighbours I used to live near are friends and they use landlines.

I lost my home when a very good job went during the awful downturn here and I had to sell my house. I have a housing association place too. I am not too keen on area as very built up. Used to be country, on the mountain and now it's a rash of apartments. This is a cottage. If mine, I would change windows, put in good wooden floors and treble glazing so no need for heating. I would have it a passive house and it does not cost the earth. I am very lucky as so many are squeezed with mortgages.

Only downside is, can't get a builder in to check things, can't change doors or anything without permission. Kitchen is a dump, but I might go and get a new one as have been saving for a few years like a church mouse. The neighbours aren't that friendly and don't like animals but that never stopped me having them. You are SO lucky to have nice views.
Philipsen ~ I saved up a good deal in the past number of years... you just have to write down the things you can live without. Buying coffee, bring your own water, it is the little things.... use the library instead of buying books. I buy some second hand clothes and do work on them.... I am getting rid of my cable T.V. as dont watch it much and only a few good stations. Getting a Saorview TV which means it won't be cable. That will save me over 100euro per month.
As a woman, I have stopped going to hairdresser and cut my own hair in a shoulder length bob. I have a proper scissors, that saves me 80euro per month and 160euro per 6wks for colour. I have lesser amount of clothes as you don't really need so much.

Buy old furniture and upcycle with paint. people leaving a house often just throw stuff away, you can get a sofa for nothing her on donedeal and gumtree, free to good home as they want to get rid of the one they have to make room for new one....

These things don't seem like a lot but it all adds up. you can do it and you will have your own roof. Housing associations, social housing, think about this avenue too.

Best of luck to you .thumbs up wine
If you are serious about handling hot humid (or even cold dry) weather then cut down on alcohol, coffee and chocolates.
The next step is to up your fitness level a notch or three. Try jogging a few kilometers at a speed that ups your heart rate. If you are very unfit start by walking slowly.
If jogging isn't for you then try a very brisk walk.
Trust me this advice will even help you to tolerate your 'buddy' more.
Drink lots of aqua. This remedy has worked for many many of guys that has worked with me in weather that one won't write home about, so don't shoot down this advice (that is if you are serious) until you give it a go.
cheers
