World War 3

This is not a fear mongering post.

I'm only concerned about the possibility.

Question: are we in the verge of a global war?

I hope not, but witnessing what's happening between Russia and Ukraine, it's a possibility.

If Russia is left alone to do what it wants, what stops China from pursuing the same goal in Taiwan?

Will the super powers just watch it happen?

Anyone?

Putin is out to prove it's power. Now why is that?

No it is a sovereign nation, you think the UK has control over Australia seeing as Australia is a part of the BRITISH COMMONWEALTHdoh

If the UK cannot have any influence in any commonwealth country and does not claim any right over those commonwealth countries, then Russia has no grounds to say Ukraine is part of Russia.
I believe that Rob is stuck with the old USSR. I do know Ukraine is independent.
Very good article here by Jacques Baud - a retired Swiss military intelligence officer and former Policy Chief for United Nations Peace Operations and someone with an extensive knowledge of geopolitical reality, particularly in Ukraine. He provides detailed background on the Ukraine situation, and how we arrived at the place we find ourselves now, detailing multiple failures in diplomacy and double standards that created the conditions for an all but inevitable greater conflict to break out:

excerpt: "In other words, we can naturally deplore and condemn the Russian attack. But WE (that is: the United States, France and the European Union in the lead) have created the conditions for a conflict to break out. We show compassion for the Ukrainian people and the two million refugees. That is fine. But if we had had a modicum of compassion for the same number of refugees from the Ukrainian populations of Donbass massacred by their own government and who sought refuge in Russia for eight years, none of this would probably have happened."
Wow it's truly a conflict over a bigger conflict.

Question, just because Ukraine did whait did in Donbass, does it make it Russia to attack?

You are clearly being one eyed Lindsy like a leaf floating in the breeze as you are clearly not interested or considering the views of others that you have asked responses from e.g. myself;
I remind you like and dislike are affections, If you impute good or bad then in your mind you are imposing one eyed view.
I invite you to read the following post in this threat then bring some even handedness to the front.
I've all ready evidenced the reply you just put asunder :

That's the all important question. Presently the desire for peace simply isn't there among the majority of so-called leaders, especially in the E.U., the U.K. and the U.S.

Call me cynical but I believe a lot of people in power are perfectly content to have the Ukraine-Russia situation just as it is. They can try to use it to try and deflect from domestic failures, as well as enriching some of their friends, in the military industrial complex in particular. They have little motive to want the conflict to end. Of course that represents a problem for the majority of people who DO want the conflict to end. So... I don't know what the answer is presently. Things are likely going to get worse before they get better, not just in Ukraine but around the world with looming food shortages and an economic system on the verge of total collapse due to reckless overspending and the inflation it has brought with it. My gut tells me that new systems are going to have to be put in place, and the corrupt actors that have brought us to this point held to account, but I believe we must go through some pain until that point is reached.
