Space and the wonders of the universe

Facts from science.

Right now, in this very moment, we are all traveling through space — and space is only some 62 miles from the surface of our planet. Earth revolves around the sun at around 66,000 miles per hour. That’s pretty quick, but it pales in comparison to the speed of the sun, which orbits the Milky Way in one galactic year (about 225 million Earth years) at about 483,000 miles per hour. Still not fast enough? Well, the Milky Way itself is traveling at an astounding 1.3 million miles per hour.

We are all, therefore, traveling through space at an incredible speed, with everything we know and love held in place by gravity. Space and the wider universe, however, largely remain a mystery. Only in recent decades have we even begun to venture beyond our own atmosphere, beginning in 1961 when cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first human in space.

Since then, space exploration has progressed rapidly, and humanity becoming a space-faring civilization — at least to other planets in our solar system — is now a real possibility. As Carl Sagan said in the 1980s, “We have lingered long enough on the shores of the cosmic ocean. We are ready at last to set sail for the stars.”

The concept is mind-boggling and majestic, intimidating and inspiring. It’s no surprise, then, that space has long been the subject of much wonder and speculation in the minds of people from all walks of life. Here are some quotes on the majesty of space, from philosophers, scientists, science fiction writers, astronauts, and beyond. astounding 1.3 million miles per hour.

Thanks Ninurta, that's the actual point of my blog here. How we underestimate the power and force of everything around us. In sync with everything we don't control if only to sustain our lives. Thanks wave
Right......., don't tell me if you have to shoot me. uh oh
Ok I won't. uh oh
I would love to see a Dyson sphere
Gonnae tell us? Where does the steam go? laugh
A Dyson sphere is a hypothetical megastructure that completely encompasses a star and captures a large percentage of its solar power output. The concept is a thought experiment that attempts to explain how a spacefaring civilization would meet its energy requirements once those requirements exceed what can be generated from the home planet's resources alone.
This is amazing Track. Didn't have any clue what this is all about until now.

You think we'll find materials that we can use to build one?
Yes, I'm waiting for the answer, too? My theory is that, because it is going at 80 miles per hour, so even if the wind is pushing it towards the same direction, it can't go west but a possibility of northwest or south west?
Oh no, so my post ended up here, it was supposed to go on Crownys joke blog. I'm so Stupid. doh
Well, I'm curious though, can you tell us just the same? You made me think hard for this you know?uh oh
Not in our solar system alone but far enough in the future when we can get out a bit further, it could happen. It will take a very long time to build but imagine what it would mean for a civilization.
I think it was a trick question. Electric trains and steam don't go together.
I would but nobody has been able to figure out where the steam comes from or goes to, so someone can be the first to crack it I suppose.
I just thought of one way of possibly getting the material for it. If we can figure out how to convert energy into matter and vise versa, we could just simply create it from solar energy. Gonna be a while in the future before that happens but it would solve the issue of getting the material.
I'm getting familiar with what it can do Track. I'm still reading about it. What an achievement would it be, and a huge benefit to humans.
That's true, although the speed is all that matters, right? Electric or steam train?
We just have to wait then?
It will be a long wait but yes, just a matter of waiting and hoping humans survive for that long.
I hope so Track.
I read all related articles when I Googled it and nothing I can find on that's similar to that question.
It's a type of cognitive test question. I think I mentioned that it ended up on the wrong blog.
It's ok Merlot, I understand. It's not for this, but the curious me, anything that interests me, I seek help if only to clear my mind. Don't worry It's not on you. It's on me and my curiosity.

Thanks just the same. All is cool.
thumbs up cool
