A portal to a memory
Do you remember a time when you went to someones home to see slides of their latest holiday? Or to go through their photographs of their trips? These days, we can run them through our trip with a memory stick; we can share photos on social network sites; we can email them to people...but it's really rare to see someone with piles of photo albums like we used to have.
Photography is a great way to return to a place and time and remember a time you laughed, smiled and shared with others. Occasionally I have to remind myself to sort through the files on my computer so I have a grasp of what I have done in the last ten years. It's enjoyable... slipping back through time... remembering a moment.
Tonight I wandered through a few files to find these old train photos... when I say 'old' , I do not mean that in the sense they are from another era. These were taken several years ago, when things were very different in my life.

“Memories, even your most precious ones, fade surprisingly quickly. But I don’t go along with that. The memories I value most, I don’t ever see them fading.” Kazuo Ishiguro,
The steam train certainly is from another era, but these are still running and they are operational, purely for tourist reasons. They just happened to be stabled in the local yards.
I rather like your selection of quotes. How true is it that we can always bring a memory to the surface when we hold it dear!?!
Yes, watching children grow up is amazing through photos, and these days you can video moments of their lives and play it over ... I find that moments like that pluck at the heart strings.
Your favorite? Flattering...but I think Sir, you rate me a little too highly.
I was fairly young when my Aunt and Uncle returned from travelling around the world and I was spellbound by their adventures. I never once thought that perhaps one day I would have my own.
Actually , there's an interesting point...Did you, Mr Bogart, have your own childhood friend?
Bogart...but ... I don't have a headache... yet.
I love you long time. Headache or no headache!
(Okay, maybe a comparitively small time, depending on how long it takes me to type a message ... and then go around the fishbowl again)
This is a link to pictures of the US Civil War.
The Siege and Commune of Paris, 1870-1871
Like old post cards, they give you a good idea of how the previous cities look like before falling to the wrecking ball.
If I were to take the train photos again... of course, the difference is that normally the standard diesel trains are parked in those yards. They don't seem to hold the same artistic appeal for me.
Thank you for sharing the photos, Delatude.
You can see some old one in this movie from 1964, The Train.
This is a preview.
Why did I only discover this gem now?
Glad you picked steam locos.
I am fanatical about steam locos and sail shis!
Oh the things I could tell you about trains. Sadly, I know more than the average person.
I am glad you enjoyed the photos... and as always, it's very nice to see you.
