A portal to a memory

Do you remember a time when you went to someones home to see slides of their latest holiday? Or to go through their photographs of their trips?

These days, we can run them through our trip with a memory stick; we can share photos on social network sites; we can email them to people...but it's really rare to see someone with piles of photo albums like we used to have.

Photography is a great way to return to a place and time and remember a time you laughed, smiled and shared with others. Occasionally I have to remind myself to sort through the files on my computer so I have a grasp of what I have done in the last ten years. It's enjoyable... slipping back through time... remembering a moment.

Tonight I wandered through a few files to find these old train photos... when I say 'old' , I do not mean that in the sense they are from another era. These were taken several years ago, when things were very different in my life.

Abagailrose morning...but they are from "another era"... but let me share with you these words...
Memories, even your most precious ones, fade surprisingly quickly. But I don’t go along with that. The memories I value most, I don’t ever see them fading.” Kazuo Ishiguro,
Good Morning Bogart, it's delightful to see you again.

The steam train certainly is from another era, but these are still running and they are operational, purely for tourist reasons. They just happened to be stabled in the local yards.

I rather like your selection of quotes. How true is it that we can always bring a memory to the surface when we hold it dear!?!
Abagail, thanks for the link (very interesting !!), and good to "see" you again. By the way how is my "pet writer"?
It seems I am missing something, Bogart... your 'pet writer'???
Hi Abagail... good blog today. Thank you... I do still have all my old albums in my shelf and I do take journeys in my computer files to have another look at my past. My picture in the albums is good to have, can see my sons life while he grows up, and to see how his children is much like their dad today, and they are much like me too, because their dad looks like me a lot and then his children looks like me too. I can see tis clearly, and it feels good to see this in their faces. Have a happy rest of your Monday.

ah...., memories.... sometimes we forget....Mr. Charlie Bear ... my favorite "bloger/artist",
Thank you, Welela. I must look back to see if my blogs were less than adequate another day. laugh

Yes, watching children grow up is amazing through photos, and these days you can video moments of their lives and play it over ... I find that moments like that pluck at the heart strings.
Charlie Bear is now with his new owner... a young man who will hopefully grow up and find a lot of joy in his company.

Your favorite? Flattering...but I think Sir, you rate me a little too highly.blushing
Abagail , as I recall the joke back then was - If you wanted to get rid of unwelcome guests quickly, just get the family holiday pictures out laugh Mind you if someone actually stayed & looked at all the pictures you could be sure they were a pretty good friend after all laugh rolling on the floor laughing laugh
Z... I do recall my parents mumbling about the slides nights. I used to think it was great as a child... Mum and Dad sat through the slides and we did as we pleased as children. Mostly played.

I was fairly young when my Aunt and Uncle returned from travelling around the world and I was spellbound by their adventures. I never once thought that perhaps one day I would have my own.
hummm.. women and "memories" !! I am talking about Mr. Charlie Bear ...grin
Did you meet Charlie? Or do you have your own 'Charlie'...

Actually , there's an interesting point...Did you, Mr Bogart, have your own childhood friend?
humm, not exactly... 3 sister + 2 brothers and 26 close cousins.... all real, so no time for imaginary friends.
Bogart... I feel positively desultory now. Why haven't I ever been invited to one of your family reunions? ( It's not like they would be able to tell that I am an outsider...grin I would blend, like a Ninja)
I have to check with the postal services!!... you did not get my invitation?... next time, i will make sure to add a double stamp!!
A double stamp?! I think you should check for just one! After all, it never made it's way here... I am at a loss, I may find it hard to function this week ... knowing that you have forgotten about me. moping
Yes Abigail i remember and then there was slide night the rich rellies had a projector.laugh thumbs up wave yay yay
acetaminophen will resolve that issue.. (i always add single malt)grin
Okay i just saw youve already mentioned slides ive been held up just popped on and looked after.doh doh thumbs up
Waf, a lot of people had the projectors... but the best part about slides night was the food that went with them.

Bogart...but ... I don't have a headache... yet. wink
It's okay Waf... comfort just say what you really think ... you are among friends here. giggle
Abagail, I am working on it... grin
Bogartshock

I love you long time. Headache or no headache!

(Okay, maybe a comparitively small time, depending on how long it takes me to type a message grin ... and then go around the fishbowl again)
Hi Abagail, handshake

This is a link to pictures of the US Civil War.

The Siege and Commune of Paris, 1870-1871

Like old post cards, they give you a good idea of how the previous cities look like before falling to the wrecking ball.

thumbs up bouquet
Abagail, Headache always.... i need my brain to work... ty... hug
Delatude... there are some amazing photographs in these portfolios... it's like picking up a history book. I am always fascinated by changes.

If I were to take the train photos again... of course, the difference is that normally the standard diesel trains are parked in those yards. They don't seem to hold the same artistic appeal for me.

Thank you for sharing the photos, Delatude.
Bogart, clearly your mind always works... I can hear the ticking from here. teddybear
The steam engines were a site to see. When they arrived in the station, the steam enveloped the platform and everyone backed off.

You can see some old one in this movie from 1964, The Train.

This is a preview. handshake bouquet

Hello Delatude... I am really familiar with steam trains. When this one in the photo arrives at the station, there are people everywhere to see it's arrival and departure.
Hi Abagail

Why did I only discover this gem now?

Glad you picked steam locos.

I am fanatical about steam locos and sail shis!

Hello Cat,

Oh the things I could tell you about trains. Sadly, I know more than the average person.

I am glad you enjoyed the photos... and as always, it's very nice to see you. flower
Oh and Delatude, I probably should look to see if I could purchase that movie. Although it might make me cringe...derailed trains sound just awful.
