Parfum

"You Remain"

As a perfume doth remain
In the folds where it hath lain,
So the thought of you, remaining
Deeply folded in my brain,
Will not leave me;
all things leave me;
You remain.

Other thoughts may come and go
Other moments I may know,
That shall waft me, in their going
As a breath blown to and fro;
Fragrant memories,
fragrant memories
Come and Go.

Only thoughts of you remain
In my heart where they have lain-
Perfumed thoughts of you, remaining
A hid sweetness, in my brain.
Others leave me; all things leave me;
You remain.

By the British poet, Arthur Symons (1865-1945).

While I live a simple life, enjoying life's simple pleasures, one of my favourite indulgences in life is perfume.

Do you have a favourite perfume, cologne or scent?

hey ....I live alone in my boat , theres just me and the cat , so there's air freshener and soap ....wave wave
Wow that is some load of perfume.
I bought one years ago made by monks on Cauldie Island in Wales. It was called FERN! They brought flowers over from the continent 100years ago and have made perfume ever since.
20 Years later I returned but could not remember the name of the perfume so had an aroma test. Bingo as soon as it hit the nostrils I knew. So yes today I wear fern.dancing teddybear
Have lovely day confused or is it night across the oceansteddybear
Soap can be such a nice scent... I find it soothing to my senses if I am away camping, Virgo.
Hello Redex,

I have never heard of Fern... I wonder if they have it in Ireland. I am going to look that up.

The perfumes there are only the ones I have open, I have a few boxed in the cupboards. It really is a weakness for me. The top one on the right is a Calvin Klein one that an English lady convinced me to try on the ferry from Ireland returning to England. It's gorgeous. BUT some of these I only wear at night because they are too 'heady'.

It's evening here. It's 1934.
Hi Abagail, this is beautiful. Thank you for sharing. I do have a scent that smells divine on me. It is Laura Biogotti's "Roma" They say it smell very good one me, so I use it when I'm going to be very nice, dressed good and smelling my perfume.
I think way to many use way to much perfume today. It is not good to be tucked in a scent that is so hard you can cut it with a knife. I say too much is too much and prey they will stop using so much. It nearly kill merolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing hug teddybear
I have my own vacume cleaner ......banana and the soap is palmolive , wave
Welela... Many women wear too much perfume, or keep applying it. It should be applied once a day. Usually behind the ears, on the wrists and on the back of the knees. (Believe it or not)

I have not heard of your perfume either, so ... this will give me something to look for next time I am duty-free shopping.

AND I certainly agree that perfumes must suit the individual. I have smelled 'Beautiful' by Estee Lauder on women and it smells lovely on them...but I cannot wear it.
Hi Abagail
I'm no expert on perfumes, but here in SA they make a most fragrant perfume from a most foul smelling weed (kakiebos). That leads me to believe that a foul scent is merely a very high concentration of a good scent. grin

I mean, take it when you have a barbeque. While you stand next to the fire the foul smell of the smoke wants to overwhelm you. But stand 30 yards away and your mouth starts watering.rolling on the floor laughing

Hello Cat, I am not sure there is a BBQ perfume. I can imagine men choosing rather bizarre scents... beer? leather? new car?

They say that durian fruit taste nice, but it's difficult to get past the smell.
1934wow no never I believe some places still had open sewers thenrolling on the floor laughing

No no sorry just have fun Fern can only be bought on the monks island. teddybear
You have lovely nightteddybear
1934...the time. laugh My inclination is to use 24 hour time, sorry.

Darn, I would love to have tried Fern. I was in Wales in July, but only in the really touristy areas. It's a beautiful country. I fell in love with Tenby.

Thank you, Redex.
Tenby that be it the Island is off Tenbypeace Yes I love Wales the countryside and views are something else.
Never been to the shamrock country yet but will no doubt do a tour before I get too oldpeace never teddybear
Well I was only in Tenby for a few hours. I bought a few gifts there for people back home. Stopped in a pub after the shopping for a cold drink with a few friends. I found the little town delightful, the people were very friendly there.

I really loved Ireland, enough to return... but I enjoyed England too... it finally helped me understand the stories I had listened to as a small child.
The young guys trying to impress women tend to overdo the cologne... But young ladies are equally guilty. laugh
Chocheta... Lavender reminds me of my grandmothers. Cinnamon reminds me of Christmas. I love the smell of cinnamon, nutmeg , mixed spice...
I love Pepé Le Pew...it always makes me giggle watching the cartoons.

Mike, I wholeheartedly agree...if it's overdone, then it's quite unpleasant.
lol to me pepe summed it up he stank and thought he smelled good and repulsed the cat with his odour laugh
...easily fixed Mike... Stay out of my bathroom! scold
i might need go in there to freshen up first wink roll eyes
if you know what i mean blushing rolling on the floor laughing
I don't have any boy products in my bathroom... well unless you count soap. smile

Hi Abagail ,
hope you're well hug Hi all :-)
On my very first day beginning Nurse Training 27 years ago , I was making a bed with the Staff Nurse appointed to be my mentor for the day - as we were making the bed , I got the scent of her perfume ,,,it was gorgeous ! I asked her what is was called ..

Oscar De la Rente --I went into town the next day and bought it -
27 years later , I am still wearing it , and now patients and students ask me , the name of my perfume - everyone loves it thumbs up grin
But like all the guys are saying ,, less is more !
A few drops and will last all day thumbs up
Hello Serenity,

Oscar De la Rente is a very nice choice. I have never owned that one ...which means it clearly doesn't work on me. One of those perfumes that I love on other people. Chanel No.5 is like that for me too... I adore it on other people.

Thank you for sharing your favourite perfume.
Oh Abigail... what a poem!! like it so much and so true !
I say perfume is reflecting someone's personality. Like your poem said "all things leave me, you remain!".
if I smell channel-egoiste, it remind me to my ex boyfriend (20years ago). I don't know where he is now but every time I smell this channel-egoiste, I remember him !!!
Chanel NO 5 is beautiful too thumbs up

ah - that's incredibly easy! davidoff cool water.
hum...some dependency issues here!..

hi Abagail.wine
Francie2013... White Musk rings a bell with me. It's been years since I wandered into a Body Shop... but if I recall , that is quite pleasant. The Victoria Secret's scents I am not familiar with at all.

GoDaniel ...now THAT is a very diplomatic response. Quite the gentleman, aren't you?

Angelpepper ... any good quality perfume should last all day. However, now I am curious about these body oils. The Paris Hilton fragrances I am familiar with; they have them on sale regularly so I have walked past them. I know last Christmas they were next to the Justin Bieber range and I bought his perfume for my 14 year old niece. I believe I bought her 'Girlfriend'... It was surprisingly pleasant, and she loved it. Is there a specific store for these body oils??? ( I am missing an experience here...grin )
yes i do.... and it is not Whisky...laugh

great to see youwine
Lovely to see you. It seems you don't want to share your secret... are you worried that women will be beating your door down if the secret was divulged??!wink laugh
humm.. now i am not worried..grin i use Egoiste Platinum...
I read a review on it and it sounds rather pleasant. I must stop to look at that.

I am not sure how you could get any more admirers at your door Bogart, so you are probably safe as long as they stand in a neat line. laugh
scold @ABAG: Here in my state, Some Oil Stores, sales them from $ 5.00-10.00 { Small bottles } And $ 20.00 {The bigger size bottles} "The trick to it is that: You just has to rub it, Into Your Skin real good." Btw: You can lookup Body Oils Stores, Or Body Oils online. I looks them up online too! They just cost more. I mostly buys mindes at a Body Oil Store, across the street from me. And at the Mall, Oil Store.
Abagail... my Christmas present box is now open...grin laugh
Hello Angelpepper ... I did a google search and came up with the Body Shop again. I really have not been into one of those stores for years, but most airports have them...so I am going to have a look next time I am at the airport. You have me quite curious!
Oh I am so sorry, Bogart...did I spoil the surprise?!giggle
scold ABAG:* Oh! They just carry it there, at the Airport? Here in my State, other place carries them here too. Like Service Stations. But! There not good at all. They has mostly water in it. And it last on you, for 10 minutes. yep! hehe Anywho! So far, its just best for me to buy the at Oil Stores Or online maybe. " I dont buy that, milk, online. For a milk bath either. I just makes my own Milk bath. "
