Hope

If you are non-religious, do you believe in hope? It is said that a non-religious person is more susceptible to having evil creep in.

And Johnny, thanks for the heads up on Carl Jung? In my university days before I taught Philosophy, He was one of my true realist..very into all our emotions and how it is with no marginal line. either you are or you are not. My favorite from him is: "EVERYTHING THAT IRRITATES US ABOUT OTHERS WILL LEAD US TO MORE UNDERSTANDING OF OURSELVES?"" This my dear Johnny is one of the best that lead us to know our complexity even to ourselves. Only then we can understand others.

Great isn't it?

Thanks Johnny..bouquet
I would just like to expand/clarify on something that I wrote earlier..... I wrote in part:

"Non-religious people have a more realistic view on the world because they still have their own mind....."

What I would have liked to say more clearly is that Non religious people have a more realistic view on the world because they are not held back or limited by any religious dogma.... grin cheers wine

Everyone has hope to a certain degree...in my opinion...I buy lottery tickets and have some hope but know the odds!!

In regards to the topic of religion and power...many grass roots people did not have the ablity to read or write, so they went to church to listen to the priests/ministers of the churches read from the scriptures...keeping the people illiterate gave the church power...is what I learnt in school...however religion should not be held accountable for the err of mankind...so being religious does not make you any less susceptable to evil...religion could be used as the vehicle of deception. Just my opinion...
Great addition my dear Loulou. How are you? this is a great information you gave my dear friend.

Hi how are you?...great blog topic...lots of opinions here...just thought I would give my own...have a good weekend!!
@ LouLou - Almost correct but Elizabeth 1, after the Act of Supremacy in 1558 to re-establish the church of England's independence from Rome, she had Parliment pass an Act of Uniformity which in part made the public's attendance at church services compulsory as well as the use of the Book of Common Prayer, with penalties for not conforming to church attendance for religious indoctrination.

I think what I was trying to say that religion is just that...a story... but people decide what is to be done...so if it was decided that a religion was to be forced upon its' people...it sounds more like a power play between church and state...politically motivated...not by religion as a faith...as I said religion could be used as the vehicle to deception...
@ LouLou - The church has always influenced the state but when I heard our news reporter mention last year that the polititions in our country were putting a question to the people "Should the state separate itself from the church?", I spent 10 minutes rollong on the floor laughing..... as IF that's ever going to happen....... rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing

The church is always the power behind the state regardless what country you live in, just some are more obvious about it than others.

What a lot of people aren't aware of is that the vatican controlls the anglican, protestant as well as the Catholic church including all the so-called break-a-ways such as the lutheran church.

Speaking of the vatican, it's only as recent as last year that the pope changed the age of consent from 12 to 18 in the vatican city.

You are correct, the invention of the printing press changed everything, just like the invention of the web has done these days......

NO WAY I AM READING THIS HANS. AND I AM SUCH IN GOOD MOOD THAT I AM NOT EVEN GOING TO ENUMERATE ALL THE COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD THAT HAS OUTRIGHT INFLUENCE ON THE STATE. ENGLAND FOR INSTANCE IS A FOOTHOLD OF THE GOD DARN MONARCHY WHO ARE NOT GOD, UNLESS OF COURSE, THEY JUST CHANGED THEIR BEARINGS FROM THAT OF A PRIVATE KINGDOM TO THE PROTESTANT RELIGION WHICH TGHEY SO BELIEVE IN?

LIVE IN YOUR COUNTRY AUSTRALIA, AND MIND YOU HANS. I DON'T SEE NO INFLUENCE OF RELIGIOUS ACTIVITY WITHIN THE REALMS OF YOUR GOVERNMENT AT ALL. WHICH BY THE WAY THE AGAIN, A PRO MONARCHIAL IN NATURE BECAUSE OF THE KINGDOM OF ENGLAND?

MY COUNTRY, I'D BE DARN IF I EVER AGREE WITH YOU THAT THERE IS ANY INFLUENCE ON ANY RELIGIOUS ACTIVITIES PERTAINING TO ENACTMENT AND PRACTICE AND IMPLEMENTATIONS OF LAWS AT ALL.

YOU ARE JUST OUTRIGHT WRONG, HANS...AND I CAN'T JUST IGNORE YOUR BLANKET AUTHORITY ON YOUR ARGUMENTS.

I think my point was missed somehow...so to make it clear...as an example...the Koran is the bible of the Muslim faith...the Taliban interpreted the Koran for their own political agenda...is it the religion that is wrong or is it man that tainted the very meaning of the religious writings for their own gain? The wolf in sheep's clothing...many do things in the name of religion...but are deceitful in doing so...
@ LouLou - ALL bibles were origonally written by man, regardless of faith, the English version was butchered far beyond it's origonal, for example the King James version, he had it re-written to include that the 'King' (himself) has the divine right to rule over everyone.

I would be very supprised if the koran hasn't been changed as well to suit those extreamists who wish to use it for power.

On the subject of 'right to rule', most British people don't even know that for 300 years their beloved royal family have been of Austrian decent their name was changed to Windsor to hide this fact..... laugh rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing
