HUMAN RIGHTS-Economic, Social and Cultural

In your opinion, are there really victims of these rights? Who are they and why? How so?

When the United Nation set up the provisions of Human Rights, which includes but not limited to SOCIAL, ECONOMIC AND CULTURAL RIGHTS, it aimed to achieve that all people in the world would be guaranteed of these rights, regardless of sex, race, religion and or where you live. These rights are founded on a belief that we can enjoy our rights, our freedoms, and economic justice all at the same time.

If this goal was established for the said purpose under the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, how have we progressed or what is the status at the moment? Forty three years from its first Convention (1966) presenting the following reports:

International Convention on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights
New York, 1966
Core Treaties

•a fifth of the developing world's population goes hungry every night
•a quarter lacks access to even a basic necessity like safe drinking water, and
•a third lives in a state of abject poverty at such a margin of human existence that words simply fail to describe it
•well over a billion people suffer from extreme poverty, homelessness, hunger/malnutrition, and chronic ill-health
•more than a billion and a half people don't have clean water to drink, or basic sanitation facilities
•more than a billion adults cannot read or write
•more than 500 million children cannot get even a primary education

My question to us all are: Based on these appalling and sickening statistics, have we ever progressed? Or is there any improvement that we are aware of? Did it get worse? Why? Better yet, do you feel that we are indeed aware of the existence of these problems? What can we do about it?

I understand this is an international setting so I personally feel that we can speak about any crucial information inherent to our own country from individual to national level. Yet that doesn't limit our opinions on what we think globally...since or course, this is an international site after all..

Thank you so much and all your contributions and opinions or comments are highly appreciated and perhaps make a specific suggestion as to what we can do, or any organization can do.

The other reason I am so interested to present this to us is because I am sure it weighs a very remarkable impact to all of us as citizens of the world. That is if we truly care about our under privileged brothers and sisters. Or do we really?

and the rest are blog members who are to afraid to answer your great blogbanana
lol Virgo, how are you? It's okay to be afraid, you know? In fact fear, is a trigger that makes us do good things sometimes..When I was a student, and didn't do my assignment, I always was afraid of what the teacher would do to me..Hence never failed to do them.

One day, we will all answer to any of them somehow and when that happens...the questions will cease...

Thanks Virgo and how is your boat...and how is life treating you. For sure you're not one of the starving many...I might say..
There is a right for rebellion.
Let's go Guadal, after all history proves that it is only in revolution that sustains the will of the people to stand strong for their right to have what they don't have..French is a very good example, Russian and many more...But if we can avoid it, so much the better as civil unrest only incurs such a great casualty and still the problem is not resolved as it should be...

Question, is it the only way? Therefore these problems presented by UN and aims to correct is not achievable? Have they given any programs and methods to implement it?

I don't know mi amigo..
It was passed in Dec 1948, after WWW II and the Holocaust.

Some people may not like the gifts of modern civilization: way of life of middle, working classes which were often brought to them either by missionaries or war faring foreigners.
Yes Guadal, a concept that they thought would benefit the whole world. The reports on these were taken from the International covenant in 1969 which laid out these findings but whether or not there is a on going study as to the progress I am not yet aware and I am trying to research on the Google.
this paper " United Nation set up the provisions of Human Rights" is what it is just a piece of paper. The rich still get richer and the poor poorer.
if things are to improve it is going to take some major monetry involvement.
Adopted and opened for signature, ratification and accession by General Assembly resolution 2200A (XXI) of 16 December 1966
entry into force 3 January 1976, in accordance with article 27

Preamble

The States Parties to the present Covenant,

Considering that, in accordance with the principles proclaimed in the Charter of the United Nations, recognition of the inherent dignity and of the
equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world,

Recognizing that these rights derive from the inherent dignity of the human person,

Recognizing that, in accordance with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the ideal of free human beings enjoying freedom from fear and want can only be achieved if conditions are created whereby everyone may enjoy his economic, social and cultural rights, as well as his civil and political rights,

Considering the obligation of States under the Charter of the United
Nations to promote universal respect for, and observance of, human rights
and freedoms,

Realizing that the individual, having duties to other individuals and to thecommunity to which he belongs, is under a responsibility to strive for the promotion and observance of the rights recognized in the present Covenant,
the ideal of free human beings enjoying freedom from fear and want can only be achieved if conditions are created whereby everyone may enjoy his economic, social and cultural rights, as well as his civil and political rights,

So who will create? Who will initiate? How? What a blah blah...
The word IF is the give away they had no idea how to implement it either
Fun, yes, what a hell of a concept it is...but I am reading the latest report on the US contribution Fun and the UN's report..
Hi Lindsy, my friend! It's great that these conventions could be concluded. Then there is always hope that they will be put in practise, and the victims will always have the possibility to rely on them.
Calleis, I concur with you, and check it out how beautiful the idea and the provisions are, and if it is applied and achieved, wow, this would be heaven my friend.

Thanks, Bill Gates, donated 80 million just for the total eradication of POLIO. This will cover, social I guess..
I am just reading about the reported asset of Bill Gates as the richest man in the world with 47 billion dollars and has given 28 billion dollars to the Bill and Melissa Gates foundation which supports 50 states and 100 countries in providing works. This report is from the Forbes National annual report..

Question: How much are people of the poor country are getting from this?
Hello LJ my friend.
I have to agree with Funlaugh.
The major problems are wealth distribution and corruption between Governments and Private enterprise.

Here are some statistics all american based but still representative of a global distribution problem.

I find it actually quite scary.

First we have the 99% versus the 1%

And then we can further look at The 1% a wealth gap we can only struggle to perceive.

The problem the UN should be concerned with is how to create systems that stop the Gap getting bigger. And how to stop the influence of private money in public politics.
ie. GM Foods, Arms, Pharmaceuticals.
wave
Sorry here's the second Vid

doh OK I got to get my Coffee doh

Hello Non my friend, how is everything over at the Emerald land?

Having a hard time pulling the attachment.

Got my acceptance?
Can't pull it yet my friend. Darn this connection is so poor
I hear you on the private money going into politics my friend. Yes this is the biggest cause of corruption..

On the genetically modified foods, I can truly relate to that, the negative effect alone, yet it is done for purposes of easy money for the corporate bigwigs.. On the arms, that is one of the biggest generators of the rich 10 percenters, who invest all their money for the production my friend.
Hey LJ,
Its a great day here. Sun is shining. wave
With my slow service Non, I am shocked truly, but the fact that the interview was only with 5,000 Americans do you think it constitute a valid result? Considering the 300 million population?

What bothers me truly is the 380 percent gap between the income discrepancy from the ordinary worker to that of the CEO. What a joke,,no wonder, Wells Fargo CEO can have their five houses, in different countries you know, Spielberg has at least 10 I guess, from different countries and Bill Gates, too..but last 2010 the president of Wells Fargo took in a 20 million bonus..I guess, read in on a Wall street newspaper and it brought a big criticism on the entire economic sector, and the public of course. Outrageous Non..
Illusion it is Mrwilling, and makes me wonder, what a joke this creation of UN then? Perhaps, they do apply what they can but it is not working good enough to balance the world when it comes to this illusion field concepts..A paradise indeed, if ever it can truly achieve such a noble dream..
I am going to need something to drown me from not thinking too much Non..glad you have the sun..it gives life..always..

On another note, wow on Fully automated self regulating android (domestic) NOn, what a world..what about the one that makes you read the mind of the others? very scary.
A 20 million bonus,
Maybe one of his kids was getting married, and he needed to higher some extra caterers laugh sigh sad flower
LJ, while I see where your coming from regarding humanity.
I also see you becoming bogged down with the woes of the world.
Next time your in oz drop in for a cuppa and laugh with me at the absurdity of life. head banger
Well the think that truly created this bubble my friend is the fact that the Federal Reserved deregulated their banking policies where the creation of the superficial values of the houses and when in fact it was such an illusion? What bothers me, is check this out. When a house is foreclosed as the current owner, now owes $300 Grand on a house, and the value is reduced to $125, they let the poor owner become homeless, while the new buyer is getting it for the value which was the current appraisal. WTH, why don't they just go ahead and adjust the loan and let the current owner keep it for the new modified loan? But oh, no, they'd think that the owner needs to be punished and become homeless...what a joke my friend..
I'll take you up on that MrWilling. Already bought my ticket for September, so yap I will. I will be meeting two of my friends, one, lives in Sydney and the other in Queensland..both female of course,,Yes I will,,ABSURDITY IT IS ,,,THE CURE OF THE OVERDRIVEN THINKER..MAYBE TRULY IGNORANCE IS A BLISS...MR.Willing..
Anyway, there is a Chinese Restaurant, there and I had the tastiest crab there is, called MUD CRAB? We don't have that here in the US and boy what a great food that is Mr.Willing and my favorite, Barramundi. When you go to Sydney? Check the Opera Restaurant at the Intercontinental, buffet on Saturday. You will be calling me how it is..
Not ignorance, just a balance, recognition of the truth beyond the BS.
You'll be here for my birthday, I could use a dance partner.banana
Hi LJ wave
what happen in my country sometimes the opposite with the data statistic. They said Indonesia grow the good & less of hunger or poor people, but if see the fact not what the statistic said.
We still have many problem specially with the health, & education in big city like I'm living now those such like a Gold which mean not cheap mumbling

And the government that should be as power people that should be concern to thing about it just think about they own business that make them more rich ( even not all but let say only 10% who really care with this).

The corruption well maybe you already know it, we one of the worst doh

Wish for the next election for our president will bring new good improvement
I can get fresh muddies here where I live, also barra.
I cook a mean chilli lemongrass crab and fish in a lime butter sauce.
You won't go hungry or miss out on tasty food.
Hmmnn I would be more than glad to be your partner Mr. Willing, the only thing is that I don't do the ballroom dance, would I have to learn?
I am positive of that MrWilling. In the market? Where they cook the fish you pick? Similar to the Migro in Switzerland only in your place all kinds of fresh fish and the Scallops, ohhh I can live with that. I eat fish everyday Mr.Willing..Such a great food and was proven to be the best food for the mind and now an advance research is going on for the possible prevention of PANCREATIC CANCER, which is the one that killed Steve Jobs and Patrick Swayze, among others..The restaurant that I am talking about in Bundaburg is inside the Casino..I had the chance to pick alive, the biggest of course and cooked it in ginger and garlic...hmmmmnn
No, just move to the beat.
Lavina, thanks so much for your courage in presenting your country and interest on the turn of the political system in the hopes of making it better. I am aware of all the third world's economic status Lavina and yes, it is so appalling.

In my birth country the Philippines, I think our new guy, the very well known Pacquiao is going to shape ours much for the quenching of our people's clamor for justice and better social services..

I will check how these countries can truly get the benefit allotted if there is an from the UN.
Okay then, by the way one of my favorite, the ACDC and Air supplies are from the land of the Oz and that will do then..
I think your thinking of Brisbane, Bundaberg is around 4hours North, opposite Frazer Island. Largest sand island in the world.
Being September the whale watching seasons on, there's a great catamaran day trip to see the whales close up.
dear lindsyjones;I think that all this UN human rights are just papers for parade laugh and Mr William made lot's of points that I agree with teddybear
It is not just on the paper. Though the UN seems to be quite helpless in many cases there have been many actions military and humanitarian on behalf of these human rights.
And even the german constitution is a mirror of the Universal Rights, though in everyday life may still missing some application.

How many people live in refugee camps for decades sustained by the UNO?
