Is It In Our Genes?
Humans have honed the art of killing other humans into a fine art. Our modern military hardware is proof of that. Biological, chemical, and nuclear weapons are just some examples of the destructiveness of man. Whether we want to kill one person or wipe an entire city off the map, we will know exactly how to go about it.This is not the case with most other mammals but there are a few exceptions. The most notable of these, is our closest living relative (according to scientists), the chimpanzee. A large proportion of chimpanzee males are on the run their whole lives long, being chased by other chimpanzee males… and killed.
Male chimpanzees patrol the perimeter of their territory in large groups on a daily basis. They will think nothing about raiding a neighboring community, killing all males and infants. And killing is not always enough. Sometimes the victims are tortured before being killed.
But why do they kill each other? Studies have shown that they kill to gain access to females, territory and food resources. Does it sound familiar?
This murderous behavior is not restricted to the males only. Females were often observed to kill infants, and in rare cases to eat them. Observers witnessed an infanticide, where a bleeding mother with a one-week-old child, was pursued by six females, five of which had clinging infants themselves. After a 10-minute struggle, the infant was taken and killed with a bite. These infant killings are more prevalent when food is in short supply.
At first, this behavior was attributed to the interference of man, but countless studies by reputable researchers indicate that it is in their nature to kill off competition. When I compare their behavior with ours, their violent nature makes it easy to believe that we have a common ancestor somewhere in the distant past. Our primal instincts are still very close to the surface.
May you have a pleasant day!

As to me, people who choose to kill are weak people. That's kind of ultimate measure when they fail at everything else, or don't find themselves strong enough to fight in any other way rather than physical....
It is terrible to think that most our borders were determined by military conflict. I wonder how many people had to die before we could draw an up-to-date map of the world. And how many will still have to die so we can redraw it?
Yes, so it seems but one would expect some restraint with our 'superior' intelligence.
Flint a stone useful to make into an axe for wood-cutting...then again can be used as a weapon....
remarkable that today useful tools such as what were utilizing here via the Net can and is misused..
Hope for mankind? I have doubts, yet the sheer number more or less garantees its proliferation for some time to come inevitably....until the next ice age perhaps!
Man ad-infinitum..
Look at them doing the same thing.
Humans in a single file doing border patrol.
Chimpanzees in a single file doing border patrol.
Yep, it is something else we have in common.
we Sposed to be more inteligent than animals !
Other animals that show signs of exhibiting human traits.
Just kidding as always, good blog topic.
Quite so. And war is good for the economy and progress alike. War necessitates more money being thrown at researching new weapons leading to inventions that have peacetime application as well. Look at what radar brought us.
Those 'patrolmen' are spaced much too close together. We see that in a lot of war movies, but then it is because if the soldiers were properly spaced, only two or three would be in sight of the camera lens. But of course actually they should have a minimum of 25 yards between them. The last patrol I went on we liked about 50 yards between us. Why make it easy for the machine gun?
I love it. I too see the funny side of serious matters. I', just surprised that nobody has a cigar in the mouth. And where are the drinks?
I'm not sure if it is fake or real. I got it on the internet. The caption underneath read: "Burmese forces patrolling the Bangladesh-border fence".
I just used it as an example. But I agree that they are way to close to each other. Poor training perhaps?
I think he will start sobbing when he sees your X-rays
He may well do Pal,

Shows great insight and foresight, a hopeful future.
just stopping by... need a peace maker ?
Have a pleasant day and peace be with you
Good of you to drop in. Why do I get the impression that we spoke before? Am I correct?
Only good thing is chimps have good sense of humour. They just grin and bear it while we humans call ourselves most advanced and superior species.
Drop a PM in my box. You have me blocked.
Let's not forget the pig who wrote it.
I hope you did not play for money. Those characters are real sharks.
Maybe science have it wrong. Maybe they evolved from us.
I have lots of thoughts about this and too many to put down.
Suffice it to say that I do feel we have 'natural instincts' which often are a product of our upbringing... Whether for good or bad. So I guess how the earth started out (and there are many different beliefs) we are a product of it. I equally believe we were born with a conscience also which helps us know right from wrong. So whilst I believe the 'natural' part of us wants to retaliate want revenge etc, there is another part of us telling how wrong something is.
I also believe that is why we need laws to help curb the natural side of us being totally irresponsible.
I see the laws (whether of God or of the land) as a guidance and protection from acting out bad actions.
I know what I am trying to say but sorry if I have not made sense.
Good blog and I have actually pondered a lot on it today.. Thank you
Also enjoyed lots of the funnies and humour..
you know, Helen of Troy comes to mind. A city sacked for the sake of pride.
Laws are there as a supplement to our upbringing to guide us as to what is right or wrong. It is a pity that some people think that they are there to be broken.
You're playing on the railway line and the express is due any minute now.
You can be very persistent at times. Are you like this at home too?
It's such time again.
However, the rabbit/wolf ratio varies from place to place and time to time. In Zimbabwe the ratio is heavily skewed to the wolf and somewhere like Sweden is almost entirely rabbit. But the problem is that a nation filled with rabbits and no wolves will be too weak to defend itself, for instance it may invites hordes of African wolves into its midst because there are no Swedish wolves to see why you can't do this. The problem with an all-rabbit society, when left unchecked, is that it will make itself someone's prey.
