Skeletons In The Closet

I have few skeletons stashed in my closet and I believe most of us do. I try hard not to think of them, always do my best to forget them but they're there and something would remind me of them from time to time. It's no longer a complete secret but I've hid them from people who are close to me. It never give me a good feeling, in fact it only make me feel guilty but for many good reasons I keep them hidden.

Well I do wonder from time to time whether I should take them to grave or set them free and leave them behindgrin Would you like to be buried with your secrets or would you tell on your deathbed?conversing

A lovely weekend to all of youheart wings

No Sympathy/Empathy. Just Releasing My Thoughts!

Wowser! A few weeks back my brother Johnnie had another stroke. He's has several since then and he is in pretty bad shape. He's blind in one eye, confined to a wheel chair and the usual paralyzed side.

My sisters here in California are making plans to get back to Colorado if necessary. I will not be going back because I simply do not like to attend funerals because the inevitable looks very likely.

I know I have stated this many times but my family was very dysfunctional. Most of them were bullies and me being the youngest one I usually got the muck from them. It was not pleasant and for that reason I stayed away from them alot.

This brother used to call me all kinds of demeaning names. One was "snafu". He used to call me a "sissy" which in the late 40's was akin to being called a "fag". The irony of this bullying turned out to be against him as 2 of his son's were gay.

One day when I was 14 I bought a razor because I wanted to be cool and shave. He walked into the bathroom while I was "shaving" and he ridiculed me and said to me, "What are you shaving for. You'll never have a beard". Hah! I had the last laugh because I have a full beard something that my bully brother never had.

All of this has crossed my mind and I have been pondering it not to laugh or feel smug about anything but only to understand that in the last few years, and I mean about 3 or 4, we have finally made peace simply because they have mellowed out. My brother and sisters are not as mean and surly as they used to be. And now that we are old, me being the youngest I am 74, we are finally close.

I think alot about my brother and I just wish we had been better with each other.

Again, I am stating this just to get my thoughts in writing.

family gathering

Most of the time I am perfectly happy to be living 400 miles from my nearest and dearest but I'm getting really excited about upcoming family gathering laugh

Maybe because the last 3 were funerals and weddings and the ex-in-laws all look alike. It is agonising when I'm 3 glasses of wine in and they come over to chat and I can never work out whether I should be saying Wow wow you look great, or we already talked half an hour ago ...

THIS gathering is MY family. Apart from the fact we all close our eyes when we smile, we are all different. yay Plus I'm can hardly WAIT to see my daughter (okay, I'll have to see some of the penguins) after 15 months!

After that, of course, I will be quite happy not to see them again for at least a year ...

How I feel about family.

Family is the most important thing anyone can ask for.

Seriously,

I'm familiar with parental alienation, but I guess you would call this alienated children......where are we going as a family as a society??

Visual Creatures

I often hear that men are visual creatures. If that is true, a blind man has a definite advantage over the seeing when it comes to sex. They see with their hands, don’t they? No, I don’t envy them; I don’t want to be blind, but I admire the way in which they adapt to their circumstances.thumbs up

About 35 years ago, I had a colleague who had a blind wife. Let’s call him Jakes. One day I saw them driving and I noticed what a beautiful woman she was. I remarked about her beauty to another colleague and he laughed and said that only a blind woman could marry Jakes. Only then, I learned that she was blind. Granted, Jakes was not good-looking at all, but I think she saw something else in him.dancing

I’m not going to go into the detail of how it came about, but one day after work, the situation arose that Jakes had to drive somebody home in that person’s own car and I had to follow them in his car. His wife was with me in his car. I did not know where our destination was. The traffic was thick and we were separated from one another. I cursed under my breath but she assured me that it is no problem. She said that she knew where they were going.doh

‘Big Deal’, I thought, but what a revelation it turned out to be. She started giving directions with detailed landmarks as we went along. She frequently asked for feedback as we drove. I asked her if she remembered all this from before she became blind. She said that she was born blind. Just when I thought we were lost forever, she told me to turn right at the next street corner and I will find Jakes at the fourth house on the left. Jakes was just coming out the house as we stopped in front of the gate.shock

While Jakes drove me back to my own car, I was amazed once more. As we drove along, he patiently explained to his wife, in vivid detail, everything he saw along the way. The traffic lights, the shops, other cars, pedestrians, trees, and everything else. Sometimes she probed him for more detail like color or size. He was her eyes.wow
