I know I mentioned this before, but it's so important to relationships, had to repeat it. Had a writers' meeting this week, my first ever. From the gitgo, the only woman present began controlling things. The men, also never having been to such groups, and believing that she had, acquiesced. But after all had read from a favorite author, also on her demand, she said---"Ah, all older white male authors". I let this pass as well, but began thinking later, that another such group might be better for me. This one sort of focussed on poetry, not my major interest, as anyone can see by reading mine. But in chatting with other male pals, all thought her remark was ageist, racist and sexist, very much so. The Left whips these terms around willy nilly, along with a favorite, "Speaking truth to power". Sure, she was insecure, being together with such absolutely brilliant males. Fear brings on defensive controlling styles, often. But we see so much of this, especially in Left leaning women, that it's time to start calling it out. But perhaps not in front of others, as the Left likes to do. Of course racism exists. On all sides. Probably hard wired into the behavioral genome from when rapid recognition of "the other" was adaptive for survival, and for passing on genes. But constant, defensive, self virtue broadcasting of such terms might not be working against the human curse. And how about all us controlling men, in relationships with the ladies? Whence all THAT?

I try to start it from time to time, by picking on one or two CS talented, intelligent, funny and ravishing beauties. Even try the counterpositive approach, insulting some creatively as I go. Alas, while most respond in droves, privately, per CS mail, their blog/forum flirting behaviors are rare, and often cryptic. Now, I love innuendo as much as the next swinging dinglebob, but c'mon girls, let loose a bit.

To borrow a line from a Pink Floyd hit---"and who'll deny, it's what the fighting's all about". So we see a (brilliant) President Trump, and recall the words from the Fuehrer himself--If we loose this war, it's all over for Germany. (Wenn wir diesen Krieg verlieren, ist es fuer unser Deutschland doch alle). The biggest misreading ever of everyday people by the liberal fatties. Many are either trust fund babies (like Marx and Engels), or wannabees of such. Plus cela change, plus c'est la meme chose, n'est pas? But what do I know?

What is the purpose of life? Why are we here on these beautiful earth? are we here just being born grow getting married eat sleep and getting old and die just like that? Why are some of us in hospital, morgue, or grave?

This is an attempt at flash fiction. I’m not completely sure what flash fiction is, so it might have been a bit rash of me to try and produce it before finding out, but patience is not my greatest virtue. It seems likely to me that the word “flash” is descriptive of either the length or the content of the fiction, so I have tried to interpret and apply it to cover both of these options. I hope the one that is wrong won’t spoil it.

It would be great if my attempt prompted others to have a bash at it, and they would be more than welcome to post their efforts here.

So come on folks, let’s get flashing.

Jamie Clearwater left the Headmaster’s office in a bit of a state. This was his first posting after leaving teacher training, and when he had received the message that the Headmaster wanted to see him, he feared it might be about some sort of shortcoming in his performance. Afterwards, as he was walking back along the corridor to his classroom, he was rather wishing that it had been the reason for his summons.

“Ah, come in, Mr. Clearwater,” said the Headmaster on hearing a knock and seeing half of Mr. Clearwater’s face peering round the slightly opened door. “Please, sit down.”

Mr. Clearwater sat on the chair at the subordinate side of the Headmaster’s desk; by now sensing from the Headmaster’s friendly smile that he might not be in trouble, after all. “You sent for me?”

“Yes. The thing is, Mr. Webster was supposed to be taking class 4B today for sex education, but he’s come down with a case of something unspecified but very unpleasant., and I see you have a free period this morning.”

Mr. Clearwater’s mouth opened slightly, but nothing came out, so he closed it again after a few seconds.

“Here we are then.” Said the Head, passing Mr. Clearwater a banana and a packet of condoms, “Nothing too complicated, just show the little buggers how to put one of these things on. And don’t let them mess you about.”

By the time Mr. Clearwater reached the classroom he had already eaten the banana, although, in his nervous state, he was probably unaware of eating it.

The lesson went far better than Mr. Clearwater had expected, or so he thought at the time. Not only did the class not mess him about, but they gave him their undivided attention for the full duration of the lesson, and in complete silence. Overall, it seemed to have gone pretty well. It wasn’t long afterwards, of course, that Mr. Clearwater became aware that his lesson had not gone well at all, and, as he was bundled into the striped car later that afternoon on the last day of his short teaching career, he couldn’t help feeling that he should have known better than to think it had.

... . We humans often step into it when we attempt to measure anything about ourselves, and misuse it to direct policy. Enter the Sanford-Binet Tests. A half thousand or so often outdated, and culturally stipulated questions, focussing only on verbal and reconing skills. Bad enough, but even it's theoretical foundations are invalid. AS IF human intelligence is uni- or even mostly bidimensional. There are all sorts of intelligences. Social, emotional, athletic, musical, artistic, strategic, business, even perhaps s*xual, etc. Originally designed to help sort out people for social policy, soon it's uses expanded, nefariously. In world war I, it placed many men into private stripes, thereby squarely into cannon fodder territories. (But subalterns had higher casualty RATES.) And was used to screen many potentially imminently teachable kids into academic backwaters. Slightly improved over the decades, mostly on PC parameters. But still the standard for many, who really should know much better. As always, just follow the dollar for the real truth. Now it's "intelligent" , self driving, autos.
