A Closer Look At The Wheel.

There cannot be much doubt about the greatest invention ever. I’m sure very few people will deny the wheel that honor. Very little of what we do today could have been achieved without a wheel somewhere in the works but it also was a big obstacle in the way of development. With no wheels rolling around, transporting passengers and freight across dry land would have been problematic and we would have been forced to invent flight 2,000 years earlier.grin

So what is it that makes the wheel so special? Well, for one, it can roll down a hill and because it could not keep the direction for long, it led to the invention of another type of wheel – the steering wheel; thus creating job opportunities for countless people. But this ability to roll downhill is not all good because the vehicle attached to the set of wheels often ran away from the owner. This led to yet another new invention called the handbrake, once again creating employment to many more people.cheering

Of course, this exposed a serious flaw in the design of the wheel. It should not have been round. A square wheel will not run away when parked on an incline. Granted, not needing a handbrake would have deprived some people the opportunity of earning money but it would have saved a lot of natural resources.confused

However, this ability to roll downhill is not all bad and can be put to work with good effect. By fitting much larger rear wheels and smaller front wheels the car is permanently on an incline and runs downhill all the way; not only moving faster but also saving you a lot of petrol.idea

For the benefit of our American friends, petrol is what you call gas. You ought to look at the stuff next time you fill up. It is a liquid, not a gas.doh

New inventions, like the pneumatic tire brought more problems. They go flat at the bottom. I don’t know why they don’t fit the tires so the (flat) bottom is at the top. Then it will run smoothly even though it is flat. This sounds like a modification that the owner can do on his driveway. Car wheels are kept in position by nuts. If you have ever changed a car wheel, you are probably a nut as well.grin

A great day to all and don't let your wheels come off.wave

Is It In Our Genes?

Humans have honed the art of killing other humans into a fine art. Our modern military hardware is proof of that. Biological, chemical, and nuclear weapons are just some examples of the destructiveness of man. Whether we want to kill one person or wipe an entire city off the map, we will know exactly how to go about it.frustrated

This is not the case with most other mammals but there are a few exceptions. The most notable of these, is our closest living relative (according to scientists), the chimpanzee. A large proportion of chimpanzee males are on the run their whole lives long, being chased by other chimpanzee males… and killed.shock

Male chimpanzees patrol the perimeter of their territory in large groups on a daily basis. They will think nothing about raiding a neighboring community, killing all males and infants. And killing is not always enough. Sometimes the victims are tortured before being killed.wow

But why do they kill each other? Studies have shown that they kill to gain access to females, territory and food resources. Does it sound familiar?confused

This murderous behavior is not restricted to the males only. Females were often observed to kill infants, and in rare cases to eat them. Observers witnessed an infanticide, where a bleeding mother with a one-week-old child, was pursued by six females, five of which had clinging infants themselves. After a 10-minute struggle, the infant was taken and killed with a bite. These infant killings are more prevalent when food is in short supply.uh oh

At first, this behavior was attributed to the interference of man, but countless studies by reputable researchers indicate that it is in their nature to kill off competition. When I compare their behavior with ours, their violent nature makes it easy to believe that we have a common ancestor somewhere in the distant past. Our primal instincts are still very close to the surface.hole

You Already Have It All!

I fail to understand why some women (always the same few) bítch about equality all the time. Why would any woman by her full senses, want to relinquish the upper hand for the sake of equality?giggle

It is the men who should be fighting for equality. But we don’t bítch about it all day long because we don’t feel inferior about being men. Just like most women don’t feel inferior about being women.thumbs up

For sucks fake! You are a woman; be proud of it. Is it so unpleasant to have sex with a man that you see it as if you’re doing him a favor? I always thought it was a mutual pleasure. Maybe you just did yourself short too many times by faking an o*gasm. And is it such a disgrace to be able to bear children? Now that is something us men folk cannot do! Maybe you don’t like being a woman.doh

Yes, I think your problem is that you want to be a man, but not having the right tools, you tried to compensate for it by dominating all the men in your life. No man worth anything will sit for it.thumbs down

The best advice I can give you is to get yourself a prissy sissy, tie him to the bed, blindfold him, stick a pencil into him to keep him up and screw his ears off. Maybe that will make you feel superior.idea

Failing that, go for the change, but be careful, the male tools are a bit more complicated to construct. From what I read, it is easier for a man to become a woman than what it is for a woman to become a man.dunno

Men and women are of equal importance; we just have different parts to play. If you remove any one of the two genders from the planet, it will be the end of the human species. In just a few decades there will be nobody left. Is that what you want?confused

Losing a parent!

This is a very personal blog, about a huge loss on my part.

One month and 14 days ago, my father passed away due to a long and tough battle with COPD. For the people who don't know what COPD is, it is Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, otherwise known as smoking lungs.

I have not always been there for my father. When he was diagnosed, I remember thinking "We'll cure this! Easy! Give it a few weeks, and he will be back to normal"

But he wasn't cured.

A few weeks into his illness, I got the idea of going overseas to work. I got a job in Scotland, and I left when my dad's disease was worsening. During my time in Scotland, my father was admitted to hospital several times. His doctor overlooked the COPD symptoms, and misdiagnosed him. Even when he was having a pneumonia, the doctor mistook it for something else.

The disease took a huge toll on my father and my family. He couldn't go anywhere without gasping for breath. I really didn't like the way his health deteriorated.

During the last three months of his life, he only came outside twice. He was never able to attend family gatherings, unless it was in his apartment. He couldn't go on holidays with us, he was dependent on a mobility scooter and a wheel chair. It really bummed me out, because I would have loved to take him with me to Scotland. To London. To Prague. Sadly, he was never up for that, because he didn't dare to go. I understood him perfectly.

A few days before he died, he was admitted to the hospital with a ruptured appendix. They performed surgery on him, and the first few hours after it were good. He was responding well to the treatment, and he was expected to make a full recovery. Six days later, my sister called me, and said it was the end. That he was close to death. So I packed up some things, and waited for my sister to come and pick me up. We then picked up my brother, and then we went to the hospital.

When we got there, the head surgeon had prepared a room for us, where we could talk to the head doctor. He told us, that sometime during the night, my father stopped responding to the treatment he was given. They would continue to treat him, but if he wasn't responding to the treatment after two hours, they would shut the machines down, and let his body take its natural course.

We agreed that they should stop the treatment immediately, so that his body would decide if he should live or die. We sat down and began to tell stories about my fathers life, because the doctors told us, that the hearing is the last sense that leaves the body, so he could possibly still hear us. There were lots of laughs and lots of tears. We told tales from his youth, from when he took my brother, me and a friend to the airport to see the Concorde land. We told him jokes, made sure he was included in every conversation, and held his hands while we told the stories.

Four and a half hours after I arrived at the hospital, my father died, surrounded by the immediate family. The hospital staff was extremely kind to us, and they made sure we had everything we needed.

Two hours later, we said our final goodbye, while we played a song by an artist that he loved.

It is strange not having my father around anymore. I miss his sense of humor, his sarcastic outlook on things and I miss his generosity. I will forever miss his laugh!

He taught me one thing: No matter how tough things look, they will always be better in the end. I know that my father doesn't have any more pains. That he is in a much better place now.

I will be okay. I will just take a bit of time.

“Cant Contain It”
When I read your letters and look at your picture into my heart you enter
My thoughts my emotions I can't control, upon you they center

How can someone be so beautiful with a smile that pierces my soul
Send my mind, my heart out of control

These thoughts, these feelings that I have I can't even explain it
They swell, they explode and I'm not even able to contain it

I hope when you read this it assures you of my intentions, that they are true
The fire needs to smolder, to burn ,to set our hopes our desires ablaze yes me and you

So these are a few words that have stirred my heart and no doubt awkwardly I try to explain
To you on paper I share, still I write, I explain but just can't contain it.

Public servants in Japan

Last month, there was a local election. For days, vehicles with large speakers roam around to ask the public to vote for so and so candidate. Some candidates go to the train stations haranguing passers bye with their platform, or just greeting the public. I took notice of one of the candidates since he was the very first to be seen there even for days it was raining and quite cold. He would greet each one while extending one hand with his flyer. On one morning like that, I noticed that nobody wanted to take his flyer, so when I was about to pass him, I took his flyer. There was no meaning indeed since Iam a foreigner and not allowed to vote. And even Iam allowed, still I can't since I live in a different city. Since then I just thought he ought to win for his patience and determination. So when I saw him, the following day right after election, I know he won. One thing I like in Japan very much. The results of election is known in a matter of hrs and the elected ones go out and thank the voters. Very nice system! Unlike in my home country where both local and national election results may take months.doh I saw him again this morning on my way home. He's quite a looker too!
