Drinking the worst tasting champagne ever - and getting paid to do it!

On Wednesday, I was informed that my employer would provide champagne for us on Friday, because the company is doing well. Friday came, and the champagne was poured.

It was awful. In fact, it was so bad, that it left my throat feeling VERY dry, which is not how I like my champagne. But still - drinking a glass of champagne on company time, whilst getting paid for it, is not as bad way to end a miserable week, because oh BOY was yesterday bad.

But it was a nice treat for us, and even though the champagne was terrible, it was quite nice to have 15 minutes where I didn't have to think about work.

Where I didn't have to think about deadlines. About drivers who mess up. About anything other than the quiet and the taste of the champagne.

Would I buy it for myself? Absolutely not. Was it expensive? I think it was. I am employed at a billion kroner company, after all, so they can afford to splurge on champagne.

But now - well, now is the weekend, and boy is it gonna be good! I plan to do my laundry tomorrow, and get some well earned rest!

The shoes on or off controversy...

I'm on both sides of the fence when it comes to shoes on or off in the house. It wasn't an issue growing up in the 50's and 60's, I remember tile floors and shoes were optional. In the 70's most of the house had carpet. Vacuumed weekly and shampooed a few times a year. I was known to wear flip-flops or running shoes.

In the 80's I developed toenail fungus and a few treatments of Lamisil (at $200 each) reduced the severity, but never eradicated the fungus. Hint: The podiatrist said it was contacted from the many years I went without shoes.
Somewhere in the 90's I started wearing (light-weight) construction boots as I was a project manager and often I had to be on jobsites. I'd wear them all day, in or out.

One day while in the waiting room to see my doctor, an advertisement for Jublia came on the TV. It's a prescription strength anti-fungal liquid. I told my doctor, got the prescription and it actually worked. So 20+ years of chasing a cure for fungus was gone! I'm more careful about going without shoes, especially in areas of wet grass.

A girlfriend asked why I wore shoes in the house and my answer was simple. "FIRE... everybody out... FIRE!

Most of the people I know leave their shoes at the front door and walk around barefoot.

As a worker in clients houses, many insist my people remove their shoes. I have to remind them it's against OSHA safety regulations. If they were to get injured without safety shoes on, insurance would not cover the claim. I've asked if they want to sign a waiver to accept the cost of medical in the event someone would get hurt and not be wearing proper shoes.
Disposable booties/shoe covers were provided by the company.

Prior to booties becoming readily available, I've gone into clients houses and removed my shoes because they insisted. One family who professed their cleanliness had a dog. When I was done with the minimal visit of measuring and discussing the design, my socks were dirty AND collected dog hairs. Foolishly, I put my shoes on and right after, the bacteria contaminated my shoes that required me to dispose of them.

Fast forward... I come up the stairs, into my apartment, wipe my shoes on the mat, head to my studio and put my bag with job folders on the side table. If I plan to be in for a while, I'll remove my shoes and get into leather slippers.

There's a shoe storage box on the wall by the door that doesn't get used. When I go to my daughter's house they have a pile of shoes at the door and usually family/friends go barefoot or change to slippers as the upstairs rooms are carpeted. I keep my shoes on. If it's an issue, I'll wear booties.

Yahoo ran a story about shoes in the house and the opinions/experiences varied wildly.
The fear factor of lead based paint, bacteria and E. coli was over hyped.

The Power of MSM

Who exactly controls main stream media?

Let's take Geert Wilders as an example.

23/11/23

Anti-Islam populist Geert Wilders won a huge victory in Dutch elections, according to a near complete count of the vote early Thursday, in a stunning lurch to the far right for a nation once famed as a beacon of tolerance.

The result will send shockwaves through Europe, where far-right ideology is on the rise, and puts Wilders in line to lead talks to form the next governing coalition and possibly become the first far-right prime minister of the Netherlands.
CBS News.

Reading this one clearly can sense that msm definitely does not like this man. In other articles he is said to be 'Europe's Trump'

And if one msm 'bad mouths' the man, be sure that all the other media giants will follow suite,  not with the exact wording but very similar.

As far as I can make out its mainly conservative institutions and individuals that are attacked.

Does this norm perhaps indicate to us who is controlling msm?

New life in an old condo...

One of my neighbors has health issues and confined to a wheelchair. She has a long-time boyfriend who owns a condo on the other side of the development, but stays with her like husband and wife. They have the parking spot next to me and often I say hello and make small-talk. I learned she's been transferred to an extended care facility now.

The other neighbor told me she was only renting and that the landlord owns a few units in the development. Less than a week later, I saw some workers moving furniture out. Curious, I stood in the doorway and was invited in by the owners who were doing some minimal cleanup.

We talked about if they were going to rent again and they decided with the great value of property now, they preferred to sell the place 'as is' but, I thought their asking price was a little high. Days later, they were doing some renovation work. They told me they had a buyer, but the bank wouldn't secure the loan. I don't know if the buyer had a credit issue or the adjuster thought the asking price was too high.

It appears they are on Plan B and now doing some renovation. Their handyman constructed a soffit in the bathrooms and removed the old style lighting. Upgraded lighting in the kitchen was also done. New toilets, a mirrored wall was removed and probably glass shower doors were installed. Paint throughout and they are installing laminate flooring this week.

My guess is $15,000 of upgrades will bring them $30,000 more in the selling price and all it takes is a buyer with cash who doesn't want to go through the renovation process and they could move right in!

the power of words

Sometimes choosing wrong words can create a rift in relationship.
Sometimes choosing wrong words can lead to war between two countries.
And sometimes choosing the correct words solves all the problems.

You get what you pay for...

News about Israel/Palestine/Hamas is no longer holding the top spot and Trump is back on top again. More amazing things are coming out of his mouth, like comments from a rally if Jesus and God came down from heaven to be scorekeeper he would win in New York, Illinois and California.
He went on claiming the 2020 election had so much corruption. Seriously now... where is the proof?
His legal team aren't doing well making mistake after mistake. In the beginning, they didn't request a trial jury in the New York fraud case but that didn't stop Donald from trying to make it sound that the state denied him of that right. Blame your attorneys, not the state.

Some reader comments to the recent news stories connect that Trump is notorious for not paying his lawyers and there is a chance the ones he hired may suffer the same fate. There is always the blame game if they cannot 'get him off' they aren't worth the money.

I mentioned this before... as a delay tactic to postpone the upcoming court dates, he could state his legal team were incompetent and had to be fired, therefore he needs additional time to hire a new team, requiring several months to 'bring them up to speed' conveniently moving the dates until after the election, thereby turning the saying "You get what you pay for" into a win-win.

Ukrainian soldier admits some of the marines trying to defend a key river against Russian attack 'can't even swim'
December 4th 2023, 2:48:10 pm

A Ukrainian soldier told the BBC that soldiers sent to help defend recent Ukrainian advances on the Dnipro river were so inexperienced they couldnt even swim.

"Several brigades were supposed to be posted here, not individual companies — we just don't have enough men," said the soldier.

"There are a lot of young guys among us. We need people, but trained people, not the green ones we have there now. There are guys who had spent just three weeks in training and only managed to shoot a few times," he said.

"Everyone who wanted to volunteer for war came a long time ago — it's too hard now to tempt people with money. Now we're getting those who didn't manage to escape the draft. You'll laugh at this, but some of our marines can't even swim," the soldier added.

As the war with Russia approaches its second year, Ukraine is experiencing serious manpower problems and concerns that international support for its resistance to the invasion may be beginning to fade.

In the wake of the invasion, thousands of Ukrainians enlisted in the military. But amid steep casualty figures, these figures are believed to have dropped. Ukraine does not publish recruitment and enlistment figures.

Surely the puppet Zelensky has made enough money by now? He should have free and fair elections instead of jumping to the tune of his puppet masters.
