I am almost certain there are some other threads about that - just scroll through the topics on the current affairs thread list. I would rather this thread was a celebration and support of Israel.

vinny1967: But not maybe one to celebrate Indy.

I am reliably informed by CS that was meant for a celebration or to show excitement..........not when mentioning that Israel have killed more people some of whom were innocent.

My sentiments are with the Israeli's. It's all one's perspective. In an ideal world no one would have to die whether innocent or not. When it's been clearly stated that there will be no peace until Israel no longer exists, it limit's Israel's options.

GalwayGuy35: Well why dont you stick to talking about Israel then. You made statements about Ireland and the irish that were not anything to do with what the posters had said or not said on here. When somneone knocks my country i got a problem with that.

I did and was. That the majority of Irish posters on this and many other threads range from outright hostility to Israel all the way to advocating a nuclear strike on same so my comment and, quoted article were relevant.

That you haven not seen these posts indicates that you just jumped into the thread without reading prior posts. Now catchup and get back to me as soon as possible.

38 Year Old Southern Israeli Victim Leaves Widow in 9th Month

Published: 21/08/11, 12:16 AM

Released for publication: Yossi Shushan, 38, of Ofakim, died of wounds he sustained Saturday night August 20, in a Grad Katyusha attack on Be'er Sheva fired by Gaza terrorists just after the Sabbath ended.

Shushan had spent the Sabbath in Ofakim with his father and became worried about his wife, nine months pregnant, after hearing the air raid sirens, and decided to travel to Be'er Sheva to be with her. He did not make it into the house she was in before the rocket hit and his wife identified his body minutes after he was killed. The couple had two young daughters and were eagerly awaiting the birth of their first son.

The cries of his wife and family could be heard as the tragic news was announced on the local radio station. Reports that a second person died of his wounds were later determined to be false. Eight others were wounded after the attack that targeted the northern part of the city, called the capital of the Negev.

Doctors fought late into the night to save the lives of four others who were still in the operating rooms at Soroka Medical Center following the attacks. At least two of the victims had been rushed to the hospital in critical condition, with two others in serious condition. Two more victims suffered moderate injuries and one had lighter wounds.

Local Be'er Sheva residents reported hearing 11 explosions just as the Sabbath was ending at about 8:15 p.m. The barrage came just after a similar attack on Ofakim, where a missile scored a direct hit on a house. A four-month-old baby, a nine-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man were all wounded by shrapnel and flying debris from the impact in that attack. Another 38 people were admitted to Soroka Medical Center with severe anxiety.

Another missile slammed into a commercial building, also in Ofakim, closed due to the Sabbath. Two other missiles landed in open areas. No one was physically wounded in those attacks, although numerous residents suffered from trauma and anxiety. Gaza terrorists also fired mortar shells at the Eshkol Regional Council district. At least one shell hit a building, causing slight damage. No physical injuries were reported.

The IAF bombed numerous targets in Gaza during the day, killing another head of the Popular Resistance Committees (PRC), the Hamas offshoot responsible for Thursday's terrorist attacks.

The Iron Dome anti-missile system reportedly intercepted at least one, and possible more Grad Katyusha missiles that were aimed at Be'er Sheva during the day. More than 50 missiles and mortar shells were fired at southern Israel over the course of the day on Saturday. Among the areas targeted were the major cities of Be'er Sheva, Ashdod, Kiryat Gat, Kiryat Malachi and Ashkelon, as well as Ofakim, Sderot and numerous kibbutzim and moshavim in various districts in the Gaza Belt region.

The emergency hotline number for those seeking information about loved ones at Soroka Medical Center is 1-255-177. Officials called on residents of the south to review and follow the instructions of Home Front Command, and proceed immediately to a safe space or shelter upon hearing an air raid siren. They also emphasized the importance of not leaving that space for at least 10 minutes of silence or longer, after any impact has been heard.

Saturday night the attacks continued, with terrorists from the Gaza's Hamas rulers and the Popular Resistance Committees (PRC), firing missiles late into the night.

Two short-range Kassam rockets exploded in open fields in the Sha'ar HaNegev Regional Council district just before midnight A rocket landed in the Ashkelon Regional Council district at about the same time. No damage or physical injuries were reported in either attack.

‘Iron Dome’ Intercepts Three Rockets over Ashkelon

The Iron Dome defense system intercepted three Grad rockets aimed at Ashkelon Sunday morning August 21 as Israel debates how to react to Hamas’ war.

Published: 21/08/11, 7:52 AM

The Iron Dome defense system intercepted three Grad rockets aimed at Ashkelon Sunday morning while Israel debates how to react to Hamas’ latest escalation in its war on the country.

The new system has proved effective but is far from offering Israelis total protection from missile attacks.

The Netanyahu government earlier this year approved buying four additional battery systems that will not be in operation for at least another 12 months.

The mobile air defense system is being manufactured by Israel’s development by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems to intercept short-range rockets and artillery shells from a distance of up to 70 kilometers (approximately 45 miles), less than the distance from Gaza to the heart of Tel Aviv.

The Iron Dome can operate day and night and under all weather conditions, but it is very expensive per use, and there are not enough systems in operation to protect several cities at the same time.

Each intercept missile costs between $35,000-$50,000, thousands of times more than the cost of Hamas’s primitive Kassam rockets.

Israel needs at least 20 batteries to protect the country’s borders with Gaza and Lebanon, and only two systems are operating, with a third one expected to be deployed in the next few weeks.

Miracle in Be'er Sheva: Rocket Hits Empty School

A barrage of Grad Katyusha missiles were fired by Gaza terrorists at Be'er Sheva for the fourth day Sunday morning. One landed on a school.

A barrage of Grad Katyusha missiles struck Be'er Sheva on Sunday August 21 morning as Gaza terrorists continued to target the largest city in southern Israel for a fourth day.

On Saturday August 20, more than 80 mortar shells and missiles of all ranges were fired by Gaza terrorists at southern Israel.

An Ofakim man, Yossi Shushan, 38, was killed while traveling to return to his family in Be'er Sheva after he heard the air raid sirens and became worried about his wife in her ninth month of pregnancy and their two young daughters.

“Tzeva Adom, Tzeva Adom, Hatzerim” (Color Red, Color Red) called the automated voice as the air raid siren wailed its alert at about 9:00 a.m. Sunday morning.

Several missiles had already been intercepted by the Iron Dome anti-missile system earlier in the morning over the southern coastal city of Ashkelon.

At least 60 police officers raced to the site of the impact, where a missile struck a kindergarten building. Due to summer vacation, there was no one in the building and no one was physically hurt.

A second rocket reportedly landed in an open area on the outskirts of the city. The third was apparently intercepted by the Iron Dome anti-missile system.

“We are asking residents to please stay in your safe spaces, please do not photograph what is going on here,” a Be'er Sheva police official reminded listeners on Israel's southern radio station, Radio Darom. Regional Commander Yitzchak Cohen noted that it was much wiser to stay put and not come out to view explosion impact sites, because sometimes there are follow-up attacks that target curious crowds.

“Breathe deeply, drink a glass of water, try to relax, but most important, stay in your safe spaces right now,” a Home Front Command spokesman added in an interview a few minutes later.

“We heard at least three explosions,” the radio announcer noted, “and several listeners have called in to say they saw three rockets in the skies.”

A local police officer who spoke with the radio announcer replied that he was focused on dealing with the present situation on the ground, rather than with what people had seen in the skies. “That is my priority at this point,” he said.

This has just been posted on the News site I frequent. For those who need reminding Israel forcibly evicted all the Jews in Gaza in August 2005 in the name of peace. Israel gave back the land of Gaza for peace. As you can see from my clips above - there is anything but peace and love for Israel eminating in Gaza.

Pre-disengagement archive video: MKs from right and left declare - "There is no danger of rockets in th south; stop frightening us!"

Published: 21/08/11, 11:01 AM

During these days of continuous missile attacks from the Gaza strip towards southern Israel, it is most suitable to take a look back at the way some related to the warnings that this will be the situation if Israel were to retreat from Gaza, as it did in the expulsion program in August 2005.

Two years ago, during the previous upheaval in the south that was met with the Cast Lead anti-terror operation, Channel 2's Amit Segal presented a montage of comments by MKs regarding the security related opinions against the disengagement plan.

The video, courtesy of Channel 2, was featured on the Arutz Sheva TV newscast two years ago.

Ashkelon Coast Targeted in Midday Rocket Barrages

Gaza terrorists switched focus towards midday Sunday and directed their missile barrages towards Ashkelon and the Eshkol district.

Published: 21/08/11, 1:39 PM

Gaza terrorists switched their focus by midday Sunday August 21 and targeted the southern coastal city of Ashkelon.

Several barrages of long-range Grad Katyusha missiles were launched at the city. Nine rockets landed in and around the Ashkelon Regional Council district and the city itself during the course of the morning.

Three were intercepted by the Iron Dome anti-missile system. One missile hit a building and caused damage to the structure.

Another rocket landed in the southern part of the city. In addition to its desalination plant, Ashkelon is home to several strategic facilities as well, making it an inviting target for Gaza terrorists.

The Eshkol Regional Council district was peppered with similar rocket attacks as well. In addition, a Grad Katyusha missile exploded in an area between Ashkelon and Be'er Sheva. None of these attacks caused damage or physical injuries.

Egyptian television reported that at least two rockets also landed within Egyptian territory, near the city of Rafiah, which straddles the border between Gaza and Egypt.

No one was injured in either of those attacks.

At least six missiles were launched towards Be'er Sheva before noon as well, with at least two being intercepted by the Iron Dome anti-missile system. One landed on a school building that was empty due to the summer vacation. Another exploded on a road, and two landed in open areas on the outskirts of the city.

No one was physically injured in the attacks.

Ask Vinnie. He's one of those that say Israel has the right to live in peace but seems to have problems with how they defend themselves.

So, I wonder what his suggestion for defense will be in this case.confused

And of course in the words of some (Nasrallah), first Israel needs to cease to exist and then go for the Jews in other countries. In fact Nasrallah says all Jews should emigrate into Israel making the job of anialation easier. Israel is surrounded by those who want her to cease to exist but the amazing thing is that is not going to happen!

Something for some on here to look at whilst having a coffee.

I notice only too well which is the reason I started this thread. I thought (perhaps naively) that they would read, watch, listen and learn. Well, there is plenty of time as this thread is only just getting off the ground. I am getting the occasional email from people thanking me for enlightening them which is great because people admit they are ignorant about the middle east conflict. However they seem to be ignorant and yet vilify Israel!!
