You asked who gave the Legitimacy to Israel well it was THE LEAGUE OF NATIONS and the Balfour declaration that did all that,and sadly it was all amended due to the Arab aid to the Allies in WW1 they got rewarded for their efforts. Mind you, the major players also wanted to control the guess what???
OIL....Another factor......Of course Israel has unlike Iraq No OIL....But the Brits, French and of course in the Background the USA made sure their interests were covered....But it all boils down to the fact the Arabs will not accept Israel in any way unlike the Israeli's who did accept a much less advantageous settlement in 1948. One the Arabs went to war over ???? Now who was the aggressor???

Get the Brits (with their "divide and Rule" policies at the time)+ the French, to sort out the mess,they have created now.
