OMNIPOTENT

OMNIPOTENT

I think God has got no name. He will not refuse to answer a widow's cry even if her tongues mistakenly calls Him Allahovah instead of Jehovah, Allah or Budha. I also believe that God is everywhere. He is too big for the box or a cathedral - not even the Basilica in Rome can contain His awesome essence.

End of Summer

End of Summer

In my poem, I felt a bit unhappy, as it is now winter, miss summer, happy memories of love, romance, and sea-activities, like swimming, kayaking and fishing. Birds in the skies, trees, leaves, all describe the arrival of winter, especially, 'icy wind' indicates cold winter. I hope my poem gives some joy, as life reflects summer/winter...like happy days, and unhappy memories, that is life.

The Girl Of The Year

A new year, a new day, and what is different this time around, Love found, love lost, just a cycle in my relationship merry-go-round. By a year’s end I’ve never had a love to share, Does it really have to be so complex and so rare? It seems so

AFTER THE FESTIVAL II

AFTER THE FESTIVAL II

It should be noted that those who stay with you in your trying times are your true friends. True friends are scarce yet they are everywhere. To find one however you must be a true friend yourself. Love is contagious, the other gets it when one has it or vice versa. In 2003, I was nominated by a poetry organisation in the United States of America for a $20,000 prize for my poem UTOPIA 1. I was invited to visit the US and possibly collect the prize. When this happened, I discovered that my ‘family’ became very large, extended and unusually accommodating until my proposed trip to the United States failed because of visa refusal. When I returned to my base and once people confirmed that it eventually did not work out, I searched fruitlessly for the members of my ‘family’ and ‘friends’ who became too distant for comfort. Hence the poems, ‘AFTER THE FESTIVAL 1 & 11’.

IN MEMORY OF VICTOR

IN MEMORY OF VICTOR

This poem was written in 2002. The purpose is self evident. Victor was a friend. In Victor I learnt a lesson that happiness, like all events under the sun, is also transient. Victor could not realise his dreams however hard he tried. Sickle Cell Anaemia is an evil that can be destroyed by the will of man. We can and should eradicate it by taking the right decisions and not allowing the chemical reactions in our brains becloud our sense of reason and responsibility to the innocent children. Let our heads control us at times at least for the sake of the children. They also deserve to be happy.

DYING EMBERS

DYING EMBERS

Africa was at peace and tranquility before the White man came. Chinue Achebe's THINGS FALL APART and NO LONGER AT EASE are clear testimonies to this fact. But the Europeans came with the Bible and build Cathedrals. Our people abandoned their sacred traditions and the pristine paradimns of peace and harmony. But today, everything is in disarray.
