Then and Now

Let's think of things gone by
times that have moved on
all the inventions come to pass
many moons ago one rose with the sun
and went to bed hard day's work done
with the setting of the sun
few luxuries there were to be had
no glass in the windows to keep you dry
the cold seeping in chilling you to the bone
a straw pallet on the floor for your bed
with only a harsh home spun blanket no sheets
a cup of herb tea and if lucky a slice of bread
veggie soup for dinner maybe some rabbit in it
thus was life for our fore fathers and mothers
hard toil dawn to dusk tax man to pay or else out
to sleep in hedgerows or warm barn if lucky
today we sit in warm houses food on most tables
but I ask myself who were the lucky ones?
was it them or is it us
as the more we have the more we want

Misspent Youth

lets reminisce of days gone by
of misspent youth

wild years of drugs and booze
hippy loving days

the wondrous smell within
hits as in you go

hey you there don't hog it
pass it this way

smoke clouds flood the room
as you puff

hubbly bubbly goes the bong
boneless you drift

hearing every note sharp and clear
as it washes over you

Shipley Woods, where Ernie
swore the trees were walking
talking, grabbing out for him
bad trip on that purple heart

ah those were the times
all so grand

of that misspent youth of mine
happy days

You Know, I Never Liked A Rainy Day

When we were kids, you were always around
You were the one boy, I hated most in town
It seemed you always, liked to follow me
For making me cry, made you so happy
So when it rained and I couldn't play
You'd laugh so hard, I'd have to say
You came around, to chase the sun away
Cause you know, I never liked a rainy day

Then we grew older, and fell in love
The sun was so bright, up above
I didn't mind, having you around
You were the one boy, I loved most in town
But then one day, it began to storm
I looked around, and you were gone
I found the note you wrote, sayin goodbye
I got so mad, that I started to cry

Oh well now, isn't this just like you
Seems you always, liked to make me blue
Why'd you leave, and chase the sun away
When you know, I've never liked a rainy day
Oh no, I've never liked... a rainy day

About this poem:
I wrote this poem, in rememberance of all the little girls, that married the little boys-that they once thought they hated so much, lol
Having 6 brothers gave me lots to draw on, one in particular- that teased all my friends, and made them cry, and then married the one that hated him the most !

Music’s song

I listen to music
I remember days, New
Saddle blankets, dusty gear
Sweet straw under beauty’s feet

The air mocks days in duster and hat
Rain popping on felt
I feel the wetness on my cheek
I’m in love with this moment

I listen to music and I remember
Tents and campfires
Horses sleeping, breathing in time
With the frogs on mossy rocks

There is no heaven after death
Heaven is what we find
Random gifts
I’ve come to believe

Dressed in White..

Silently fall soft snowy bride,
Beneath cold waning moon,
Adorn our naked countryside,
Like white confetti strewn.

Tonight to meet her beau Jack Frost,
She'll wear his sparkling gems,
Lace glinting dress and veil embossed,
With diamond studded hems.

So many joys can Winter bring,
In frozen mystery,
To celebrate our new born King,
Bright star of history.

Young children dance 'neath snow clad roofs,
They sence how Santa's near,
While soon to trace fresh track of hooves,
From his red-nosed reindeer.

I long to see white postcard sights,
Amid sub-zero wind,
Then under lonely Christmas lights,
Pray for lost souls that sinned.

Shadows of Light

The cold winds sweep through the gate,
tossing the autumn leaves about the garden place,
where the birds would frolic and sing.

Patches of the once green lawn, peering through here and there...
wait patiently for the warm winds to return,
and the life they will bring.

The Pine has grown little since I planted it last Fall,
casting a small shadow upon the trickling stream...
that slinks so slowly down the wall.

The light of day pauses one more moment,
before sinking into the night sky...
leaving an even balance of shadow and light,
bringing deep calm to the soul,
a pensive thought,
and sometimes a tear to the eye.

The artist that drew the rain

You have seen life withering
And the beauty of nature
In your dreams
And your brush
Has always blessed
This bright burning.
Our silent dialogue
Has suddenly disappeared
Like happiness disappears
You've gone through the storm
Beyond the horizons of earthly concerns.

That morning, opening the window
I saw a picture
Maples, straightened freely
Rocking in the wind so easily
I have head music.
The summer fairy tale musicians
Have sent diamonds
Of their hearts tears.
To those who are not with us
Anymore

I know you’ve forgotten me
Artist, that drew the rain
You serve other angels now
And you will not call me to follow you.
The artist that drew the rain

A Birthday prose

I remember well, our meeting in the park,
You were lost, and it was getting dark,
I abandoned my bike to take Bente and you,
To a Norwegian bar where our friendship grew,
You looked for me after that day,
I found you both in Vallhalla they say,
We drank and sung and danced that night,
And in the morning when it was light,
It was time to go, to part my dear,
The pain was great the sorrow long,
Meeting you has made me strong,
Enjoy your day you have enriched my life,
Drink, sing and dance,
For in Vallhalla we may meet again by chance.

Wenn ich mich erinnere könnte (If I could recall)

Childhood takes me down ancient ways
in front of me appear the dunes
behind the heath falls far to the horizon
what I forgot was the village name
it was so quaint
people can sing of the sea or Hawaii
for me the past
is like a wonderful dream out of my grasp
I will never see those headlands again
if I could recall
the sight of Schaprode and Hiddensee
before my eyes my childhood dream
would become real
and my happiness would know no bounds.

About this poem:
I wrote this about my early childhood in Germany.

We all have memories like this and for me, they remain like a dream akin to German singers description of sailors fated to never reach land and Hawaii are more fantasy than a realized expectation.

Changing face

Face me
Don’t make words get in your way
All of this feels like that night
Black and white
So much philosophy, not any answers
Just searching for….
Searching for so many things
What did I find?
If I call, do they open they’re heart?
Face me till the end
Until it tear us apart
And so it will be
A fight where every puzzle will fit
So let this moment begin
