Epitaph to Love.

Eyes I spoke of once, words that burnt then,
hands that cupped soft thy lovely face,
took me from myself for such a space
of time, marked me out from other men,
the waving hair of unmixed gold that shone
amid smiles that flashed with Angelic rays,
used to make this earth, a paradise ablaze,
are but now a little dust, all feeling gone,
I grief stricken, its darkness foreign to me,
alone where light I cherished never shows
in that fragile bark strewn on tempestuous sea,
so, let my loving song come to a close,

as this my Lyric turns to tearful sigh,
the vein of my accustomed art is dry.

HIDDEN TREASURE

WE CAN SEARCH FOR TREASURE,
STORM THE GREAT WALLS OF THE KEEP,
OR HUNT ALONG THE HILLSIDE
WHERE GOLD IS BURIED DEEP.
WE CAN QUEST ENDLESSLY FOR
SOME GREAT HIDDEN TROVE
AND HUNT FOR SPARKLING GEMS
WHEREVER WE MAY ROVE.
OVER LAND OR SEA
OR WAY UP IN THE AIR,
WE CAN SEARCH FOR RICHES
EVERYWHERE.
YET WERE ALWAYS SURE
TO LEARN IN THE END,
THAT NO TREASURE COMPARES
TO THAT OF A FRIEND;
FOR A HEART THAT IS WARM,
AND CARING AND KIND
IS THE GREATEST TREASURE
THAT WE'LL EVER FIND.

Procrastination

What has to be done must be done
So quit beating about the bush
Rise up and commence the action
Give yourself the required push

It's no use procrastinating
The task cannot be wished away
It will still remain there waiting
Why should you waste another day

So make the effort now, my friend
And strive to do your very best
Soon you'll bring the task to an end
And then take a well deserved rest

To realise your ambition
Beware of procrastination

Waiting Angel

Quietly an angel waits for you there
Can't you see the light glowing in the dark
Even if you don't show it lets be fair
You weren't serious I was just your lark

Stirring winds blowing bringing times of change
Rains have passed gentle winds blew clouds away
Once at a distance no longer feels strange
Tides keep moving back and forth changing days

In a distance standing tall solid ground
Fear is not mine determination claimed
Not to be crossed over I'll go around
To leave my imprint in the ground life stained

Giving up is what my angel waits for
Always with hope given she will wait more

About this poem:
When I was younger I felt so big and important. As if I was the whole world. With time that has passed by I have humbly learned that I play such a small part in this huge world. And everyday that is given to me I except the challenge to try and make it better than the day before.

One Warm Glow

How warmly a'glow your fire greets me well
Just around the bend and seein' me home
Those lovely curled swirls of smoke rising s'well
Over blankets of snow's coverin' dome

For in that sweet odour born of the woods
Many a'whole days I trudged its timber
Bucksawed and stacked neat in an ol' woodshed
Countless swings of axe make me so limber

Lo' in wind drifts over meadows swagger
With these footsteps my perilous travel
Deep into snow's softin' crust I stagger
That last longest mile I dare not cavil

The fresh smell of stew in a pot simmerin'
Hanging over your soft coals shimmerin'

About this poem:
Much about rural life is living off the land..and in the forest there connects a winter's chore of cutting trees to a spring chore of splitting wood and stacking over a summer to dry...and then burning logs again the next winter season; as seasons wrap around seasons.

Entwined

Where sands come together at your ledges
Searching what washes on shores of treasure
Be a kiss which bumps along the edges
A place for where our love makes such pleasure

Us adrift in a tide of tranquil seas
Floating together we are meant to be
Our sails filled with the wind of offshore breeze
Searching for emerald coves with palm trees

Happen upon an island of delight
We anchor our ship inside your favor
A harbor of love all sweetness and light
Anyone whoever seeks will savor

Forever lost in time will ever find
For the sheer beauty of love be entwined

When we were young

I remember the lane with loving footsteps worn,
that fragrant filled each sprung dawn,
serves to underwrite my life with bliss,
to relive the joy of loves first kiss,
remains the dawn of life that never pales,
to fill this later day with soft scented tales,
recording love in beauty's soft repose,
with depth, far deeper than the ocean knows,
that soothes the pathway of my sleep,
an exclusive world, my cherished keep,
a whitened world where poets dare,
charge their ink with sonnets fair,

endorsing love, like as the ivy clings,
leaves me richer far than Kings.

Liar

Winds howling whipping tearing their way thru

Currents strengthening swelling with their pride

You yes you begging from release from lies

Damn them they will not have a place to hide

Moonlight shining on darkened battlefield

Yellow glow caressing imperfect man

Looking up appearing at the angel

Justice had been served not as he had planned

Looking in the mirror what does one see

Is it true you or has it been revised

To see ones self with blemishes and all

Is freedom from having to fight the lies

To ones self it is so easy to lie

In the end truth is with us when we die

Time Traveler

Cast off these lines have almost broken me
Making my body shudder with each wave
Letting me leave my safe harbor and flee
Myself of bonds never meant to enslave

Such as my spirit goes before me flies
Leaves an anchorage casts mooring aside
Riding silver wings overhead in skies
Soaring so highly and outstretched will glide

Past limits once held and checked in balance
Just for the sake of gravity I fear
Flying in the sunsets golden valance
Traveling in time makes great distance near

So at last we can meet and exchange smiles
Forgetting for now…. all the miles and miles

The Value of Pie

That was not a pie you gave me yesterday.
Call it shepherd’s or even cottage if you must.
But it wasn’t a pie, no matter what you say,
when the damned thing didn’t even have a crust.

And though my judgement might sound somewhat hasty,
I do not think I'm asking for a lot,
when I insist the filling be encased in pastry,
and yesterday it certainly was not!

A pie without a crusty pastry case
reminds me of a tortoise without its shell.
Its omission is an absolute disgrace.
I’m sure the tortoise would agree, as well.

So next time please do not dissatisfy,
just put a bloody crust around my pie!
