Twould it be so easy to not look back
Fly forward stretching for the finish line
Leaving behind the baggage of the past
Could I just let go if I were inclined
Embracing one another holding close
Soon warmth turns to fire spreading throughout limbs
Flame covering burning to nothingness
All is silent as the bright light goes dim
Door knob in one hand baggage in other
I know I would be nothing without you
Hugging close as if we are but the one
If I go then you must come with me to
Baggage that I carry has carried me
In essence it is the person you see.

You who were once so colorful and crisp
Now laying soft and limp brown with decay
Once in the gentle start of spring would wisp
A new growth bursting forth in green array
How much I watched you grow in each season
Collect from a bright sun much energy
Making me think of life with more reason
We were the center of such synergy
Now that darker skies fill with grey coldness
Whispers in the wind the winter coming
Left with yet another year of oldness
Face a hundred days of frostful numbing
Good bye my dearest friend my little leaf
You brought to me much joy in time so brief

The sky a darkly growing mass of gray
"Tween streaks of setting sun make a moon rise
Feeling lost of stars aid me in my way
Lacking proof my naked eyes would devise
Forever lost of light my thoughts concealed
Cross never stood over a potter's field
Out of sight hiding all my faults congealed
Resting in silence never be appealed
Lest my mark on life be forever lost
Burnt lump of coal into a cinder made
Hurting oneself such a terrible cost
Casting salvation's light into the shade
Such as when light transfers day into night
Lacking faith no love in our hearts ignite

About this poem:
This sonnet is a message of what is lost, when the one true love that seeks us out can only be found through the lense of faith....just believe it.....and it will be so.

Scarcer are days when the world feels so light
Boundless energy into dreaming eyes
Reflections of stars luminating night
When deep into dark fissures no fear lies
In my grateful walk is my head held high
Nothing in my way I take a sure stride
On a path of life that's more a journey
Across the quiet shoreline at low tide
Over sand still wet and firm my feet glide
Barely a trace to mark I have passed by
The dark sea only a hush by my side
Time moves as fast as the blink of an eye
In solitude I hear my own heart beat
With no good cause at all to drag my feet

About this poem:
The sonnet is reflective of a quiet nightime stroll down by the sea
on those rare occurrances when the sea is calm and all the stars are out shining brightly. I contemplate what I must do to capture this feeling and make it last in my mind.

In of all the world and of all the time
When Technology hides God's True Power
Full of mystery, love and without rhyme
She brings joy to my heart at this very hour.
Invisible for all but me to see
Is her light and her wings that makes her soar
with a heart full of warmth that makes you free
and a bright smile that melts you to the core
At the darkest hour, she comes into my life
A true God sent, How can I but believe
Enduring sorrow that cuts like a knife
look into her eyes, my heart is relieved
Smile, laugh, find love and happiness, Be Free
For My Angel's not only meant for me

Thou, full scented far, e'er that gently flows
as the fragrant air, it's pure perfume knows
caress this land, from East to shinning West,
like as sweet the voice that I love best,
breathing, breathes the warmth whilst I can,
in love's pure flight for my dear Ann,
her colours akin to Spring's fresh flowers,
burns bright, like rainbows love-lit showers
that gently bless, this green grateful earth,
sing such the praise of her own worth,
melodious spun, it's enchanted web so fair,
assuage the touch of thoughts that care,
thus fills the heart with feminine grace so rare,
bequeaths, abundant charms of love's own ware.

Those careless days as selfishness reveals
Where once all love was missing from my heart
Least solace for my fellow mans' ideals
Whose wealth only serves to set us apart
Be gentle still while my compassion swirls
Wonderful thoughts fancied soon fleeting gone
My Master would make strings of perfect pearls
As I would have no luck to happen on
Ah me, I stumble on paths well trodden
Discarded shells glitter in my wet hands
In my pockets full of weeds well sodden
Piled up on an oceans' broken sands
Like searching into a soul I would tame
If for only my life was mine to blame

About this poem:
I am deeply reflective with self awareness on this most festive day of Thanksgiving...like my Puritan fathers before me....is my fate upon the shores of new and wild land.

Blow hard cold gales across crumpled corn stalks
Dark skies spitting frozen granules of snow
Forcing my eyes into slits my sight blocks
Squinting for my prey down long stubbled rows
Take away, just numb my other senses
Perching up on an old tree stump to sit
Cover the run for it to jump fences
My rifle held firmly in my warm mitt
Hours and hours so alone with my thoughts
For soft hushs of breath inhale and depart
Like when success comes and goes casting lots
For when the moment comes with racing heart
Now my pulse quickens my blood flows fervid
Into sights my long awaited cervid

About this poem:
My sonnet is brief narritive of the experience of being a hunter....a cervid is a latin species name for deer....distinguished from Bovidae (Cows) by the male's having solid deciduous antlers and just about the only rhyme there is for fervid......

Less fear scares me as dark shadows enclose
Under black shroud of a widow's blind-fold
Wearing the scent of summer's darkest rose
Blooms in a lonely field that death foretold
Eyes never drying when tears stop their flow
Nothing is as moist as the mourning dew
Nor stark the color of carrion crows'
Coal black feathers turning purplish-blue
Sick in my grief was love lost in the grave
More vulnerable yet lest I ever dreamed
Continuous fear wearing down depraved
Bitterness cast from the nets unredeemed
May ones' good life be made from what's gone past
Living in sweet dreams that forever last

About this poem:
Such is an emptiness now found in the New England woods this time of year. Visting the grave of my mother, this sonnet is very darkly reflective of my suffering a deep loss, followed by a timeless bitter mourning from a death so deeply personal. Perhaps only in our dreams can such sadness be balanced by the celebration of another happier time in life and also with the hope of her eternal love.

How warmly a'glow your fire greets me well
Just around the bend and seein' me home
Those lovely curled swirls of smoke rising s'well
Over blankets of snow's coverin' dome
For in that sweet odour born of the woods
Many a'whole days I trudged its timber
Bucksawed and stacked neat in an ol' woodshed
Countless swings of axe make me so limber
Lo' in wind drifts over meadows swagger
With these footsteps my perilous travel
Deep into snow's softin' crust I stagger
That last longest mile I dare not cavil
The fresh smell of stew in a pot simmerin'
Hanging over your soft coals shimmerin'

About this poem:
Much about rural life is living off the land..and in the forest there connects a winter's chore of cutting trees to a spring chore of splitting wood and stacking over a summer to dry...and then burning logs again the next winter season; as seasons wrap around seasons.
