Peace and Love

Will peace be not gone only by and by
Fall away like summer days asunder
Now only a thin ribbon of blue sky
Swept aside by gloomy warring thunder

Fast do the dark clouds of reproach return
Swim and swirl in the swamp of lost desire
War only so lost in a fire could burn
Such jealousy stacked so neatly on a pyre

Will peace like flowers grow faded and old
Keeping pressed between the pages of time
What of a story that was never told
Holy words mere muffled sounds of a chime

Only when we let love conquer boldness
Can we trust each other in holiness

About this poem:
A sonnet deeply reflective of a crazy, sad world. When will 'our' the 'human' story become about righteousness … ‘peace and love’.

Casual Encounters

Kiss me and calm my wild fluttering heart
Gently swaddled in your protective arms
So fragile is love newborn from the start
Keeping safe from the world and all its harms

Hug me new lover on a summer night
Softly stroke your gentle caressing touch
Fire burning bright, flames of passion ignite
Two souls unbounded in each other’s clutch

Rest now our faces upturned to the stars
Ascending window of heaven a dream
What is life but now love is always ours
As sunlight reflects at night its moonbeam

Pass the desire we have spent on its shores
Brightly both eyes reflect, mine into yours

Enamorada (Soneto asonante)

Some Dreams Never Last (sonnet)

Softly the breeze flows through scented meadows
gentle sounds of water from the rivers
and haunting notes of music crescendos
in the distant background from the speakers

A cascading shower of climbing roses
she waits for her lover impatiently
over his lateness she agonizes
at last his footsteps coming hurriedly

He catches her up in his arms and spins
round and round until dizzy they both fall
her heart and emotions are now tailspins
she loves knowing it could lead to downfall

For to another one he is promised
yet he tells her that his heart belongs to her
she knows that he is a materialist
at first it had seemed a great adventure

Sighing she tells him that he must depart
his plans of her seduction now thwart

Secret Love Affair

A wet look in your eyes which makes them shine
Reflections of much desire coming through
Twin beacons of searching love be the sign
Becomes the very best we ever knew

Grab hold of my hand let’s run fast away
Away from a place we need escape from
Past the afternoon to pass time of day
Until somewhere near tomorrow does come

Like sweet smell of forest after it rains
Wash and kiss clean upon our human face
Till only the wild scent of flowers remains
Exploring ourselves in our secret place

Precious is time measured in breathes we take
When our world is more what our love can make

In A Hollow Tween

Cast adrift your broken web still flutters
Now the dew has become a patterned frost
Hanging down off the ol' clacking shutters
One flapping loudly back and forth is tossed

Barn has gone unpainted another year
Tractor parked quiet in an open bay
Green cat eyes from beneath the hay bales peer
Its shaggy winter coat all tufted gray

Quiet now only the cold breeze echo
Its hollow and dry humming sounds sneer
Moving like waves down the browned grass meadow
Waiting for that first snowfall to appear

The sun slips quickly past the horizon
A scarecrow stands all tattered and wizened

The Last Bonfire

Under gray billowing clouds the gulls flew
In the bitter wind when first snowflakes grew
Whipped into funnels to the ground they blew
Filling in cracks between the rocks askew

On the horizon a pale dull sun did drop
And the darkness crept up ‘till the shadows
Converged all around when the day did stop
And stars became celestial rainbows

Huddled brave souls near last glowing embers
Within a ring of rocks was set ablaze
On icy shores our lake in November
One last bonfire to cheer the good ol’ days

A peaceful sound when each wave comes ashore
Was life counting the seasons more and more

About this poem:
Reflections of life along the shores of a big freshwater lake, where many years in our youth were like seasons when all would meet together and party around a large bonfire until the end of each season such as when the darkness and ice of winter came.

Love to Share

Freedom some say is something to fight for
Was that before or after the war’s won
So each generation will fight this war
Always finishing what was left undone

Scarce the peace ‘till another battle fought
Does dust ever settle on warring tribes
Pouring lead down barrels of guns have brought
Only nation’s wealth paying off the bribes

One life to live, another give away
Really amount to anything that much
For in the end we go our merry way
And only the past becomes out of touch

What matters most in life is love we share
And showing each other how much we care

Sweet Flowers of May (sonnet)

Sweet flowers of May how you do entice
lifting and filling my soul with beauty
swaying in the breeze and releasing spice
aromas that enthral sharp and minty

Tumbling roses cover the pergola
sweet musky scent is hanging in the air
robust colours of the gladiola
poking up a most tempting derrière

Fascinated I watch it bob about
as my lover stoops pulling out the weeds
hot and sweaty he does a turnabout
holding my hand he now shows me his deeds

Beds free of weeds that able to flourish
just like our love for each other we cherish

Autumn's song

Softly sweet, here the setting sun blushing stain
shimmering rivulets upon golden fields of grain,
her subsiding rays harmonize late hours dying art,
whilst we, life strolling free view its fiery heart,
oft blindfolded, pay but mute service to nature's charm,
weave vespers kaleidoscope, dulcet days soft sung balm,
focus keen our short hours, like as a sea spun wave,
she to the returning tide, we to the solitary grave,
leave our lofty schemes, wet eyed awash, a barren cry,
therefore neglect not, the hours that swiftly pass us by,
once its glory flown, e'er estranged from youth's green door,
flowerless, as the deserts, thirst stricken waterless floor,

Alas! life's fragile path, oft traversed sightless alone,
impotent to the difference twixt the neglected and the sown.
