sofarsogood74: I know it is. But it only accounts for about 10% of the Oz economy. It is not as important is in Ireland. Irelands economy was built on property and finance and thats why it fell apart! Hence we could lean from Australia. The way you are banging on you would think Ireland was in a great position and Australia in a bad one. Where are Irish people emigrating to????? Do I have to spell out every last thing we could learn from their economy??? Ot maybe you just think ours has run and is running perfectly!!!!

I don't think ours was run properly at all. Just asking you questions on certain things is all. You seemed to be equating things wrongly to certain areas. You seem to think that Japan has gone through a bad time in the past and that's it. But if you actually look at the make up of their economic policies, you will see that they are actually facing a terrible situation in the future.
You also make the assumption that China and South Korea don't have boom/bust cycles. Who told you that? The 1997 Asian crisis springs to mind! Everyone experiences boom/bust cycles. Not to experience these would result in people having a perfect recipe on how to avoid recessions. But we don't.
Ireland is an open economy. It doesn't matter where we export to. If there is recessions in any of the major areas of the world, it will affect us. Exporting within the Euro area is actually quite beneficial when it comes to exchange rates. Would you advocate leaving the Euro??

Call it what you like however given that around 10% of the population don't even crack the dollar a day mark, not to mention working class adults having to share a bed with two other adults,no dignity in that so their GDP can romp along as quick as it likes however if they don't adress issues like those stated above, then perhaps there'll come a time when they have to many internal issues on their hands to worry about whether or not there percieved as a superpower.

Considering that they couldn't protect any interests outside of their own immediate area I wonder what qualifies them to be considered a global superpower. In any case, after murdering over a hundred million of their own people and having one of the lowest records on human rights in any second world country I wonder what actually qualifies them for being a superpower to some.

Choose what country would likely to become the next Superpower.

China, India and Brazil are experiencing substantial economic growth, whilst most of the 'West' is contracting and suffering economic 'troubles'.

The West has evolved a flaky monetary system based on extreme short-termism derived from its volatile financial markets. The emerging powers have extreme diversity of wealth distribution and critically, have yet to develop the bedrock of domestic consumption that provides a sustainable base for development. The emerging powers are dependent on exports to 'The West', currently, to sustain their growth - the West is dependent on cheap manufacturing and exports from the emerging powers to sustain its consumerism. The system is reliant on innovation and product 'flushability' - if we kept the same mobile phones, tvs, media players, cars etc for 20 years, it would collapse.

The whole thing is underpinned by fossil fuels. The scarcer they become, the more demand for them grows in emerging nations, the less sustainable the whole thing is. It's a house of cards.

sofarsogood74: What has that got to do with the next superpower? Or weather China can project its power???

Lots. To be able to make cheap parts for lawn furniture is one thing but to hold debt that you can't collect outside of a normal payment schedule as it would tank your economy is another. Neither enables you to project the power to stop a task force from blockading a country to enforce political agenda to help friends or harass foes. China has no global ability to do anything other than stop the flow of widgets and call in loans at the pace of a trickle.

On the other hand, the US can block off any waterway, lend out billions, influence political, economic and trade agenda around the globe.

sirLarryIII: When you become a culturally superior person you will understand!either that or its the fact most governments and organised religions in the west have succesfully brainwashed their citizens into holding the view that their country or sect is the real truth and that everthing else just happens to be "wrong" and a major threat to their security, wellbeing etc,and needs to be destroyed to safeguard the "truth" and "goodness" of its people,in turn playing everyone against each other as every side holds the same view.

dunno

sirLarryIII: Actual TRUTH never seeks to convert anybody, its safe and secure in its self and can be questioned inside out to prove itself as truth if needs be.it always waiting to be found, hidden in plain sight. The real question is will the insecure ego in conditioned masses allow itself to see this, dissolving the current western "normal" mindset(social conditioned unproven beliefs, views and thoughts which folks run with as "truth" but always yeild negative results for them and they can't figure out why) but yet in order for mankind to bulid a better world for ourselves and our neighbours we have to let this brainwashed western mindset go to create a new normality benfiting everyone.heres a tip..we can't have it both ways.

So do you prefer the 'eastern' mentality with the 'eradication' and 'reeducation' of hundreds of millions of counter revolutionaries? How about living on a few cents a day in a coregated steel shack and attending party meetings nightly to tell you how great you are, is that better?

Are you one of these people, similar to a person who on sinking ship would fight over their turn to steer the ship believing this would prevent the ship going down and they better equiped to the task at hand then everyone else including the captain.Yet all the time remained ignorant to the truth that there is a lifejacket on board giving everybody an equal chance of survival?

Don't know about Conrad but myself, I would certainly prefer to attempt to repair the ship and salvage what I could rather than jump into shark infested waters with no hope of rescue.

Since the 64% of the vote here is for China to be the next or is a Super Power. I decided to check and see how many people are immigrating to this next Super Power with a online search.
Guess what?

Secretive China does not release such information. Which has to tell you something. That it ain't allot that are immigrating to the worlds next super power.

Other hand, the number of Chinese that are leaving China.........for other non super powers and a declining Super power like the United States....is in the millions.

In 2010 some 113,000 case of corruption were investigated in this new Super Power by the CPC (Communist People).....amounting to 113,000 convictions and punishments.)) In other words if they investigate, you is guilty. Get the drift?

But that aside. Since the international community here has determined China to be the next super power....how many of the 64% are trading in their citizenship to become card carrying Chinese Communist?

Albertaghost: With zero aircraft carriers they sure don't. The criteria for power projection was not economic as that is economic power. My quote for power projection reads ""project power on a worldwide scale to protect those interests.""
I see. Then the guy who coined the term 'Superpower' is wrong. It only means what you want it to mean even though he defined it.

Did you know that sometime anonymous posters on an internet forum who only state their opinion without any backing at all are often mistaken?

So far, I have provided the only definition of what is a Superpower. Since you do not approve, what is yours?

Who said the only power is military power???? China does have military power and a huge army but it is also rolling in money and loaning it to the biggest economies in the world. And China is building aircraft carriers and will have them soon! And since the question was who will be the NEXT superpower they obviously don't need them now to be the next!!!!

As for your definition of super power...how do you k now that man coined the phrase??? Because it's on wiki???? Where have you proved he defined it. And where does it say the power has to be military? You can project power without aircraft carriers! You saying you can't is the most idiotic argument I have ever heard!

The next 2 decades, economically, belong to Asia. China is going to be the super power both politically and economically. Specially when British Monarchy and US REAL designs have become known, so they won't last long. Even when both try hard to block china, stirring more and more chaos around the region. Except for the European Allies, no one will associate longer with the US and UK, being too unreliable and deceptive. The fake war on terror bubble will fizzle out for both soon, as they would be reeling to patch up their own economic mess at home.

No more wars and chaos will defer the inevitable. I think the Queen and the US have already started seeing humility lessons coming their way. China, Iran, Pakistan, India will all strengthen, consilidate access to central Asia, Europe and the Far East. Middle east is already learning the inevitable lessons the hard way and would soon be out of Imperial and Globalists clutches.

China is the place to invest for the future.

Really makes me laugh how imature som people are on here. They view that fact the majority see China as the next superpoer as an attack on the US. But people are only making a decsion on the economic facts in the world today. China is rising fast and the US is staying still. China will soon take over. But whats the big deal?confused

I am sure the Romans thought they would be the world superpower forever, as did the British, as did the French? But these things go in cycles, nobody is top of the tree forever.

Because China is thier worst nightmare....they're too used to playing unfair, so find it hard to compete. Stirring chaos in the region won't help stop the inevitable. They'll learn the hardway eventually and will queue along for the fair share, in peace.

Rise of Asia's the writing on the wall.

China, India, Indonesia & Vietnam have become great manufacturing nations, and as a result, have increased their respective economic power. However, it isn't a priori that these nations will become the next global superpowers. Furthermore, the GFC doesn't automatically mean western economies are a spent force. What we are experiencing is merely an example of the cyclic nature of economics, and a shift in focus.
Australia has weathered the current crisis owing to its resource based exports, however, I can remember the 80's when unemployment was at 10% and interest rates peaked at 17.5%. We suffered while others hardly felt the economic turmoil. One of the reasons we avoided the worst of the GFC up to this point was the government's massive spending initiatives which stimulated the economy when it was beginning to slow as most others globally. Hence our huge deficit. Prior to the GFC, our budgets were in surplus.
The negativity exhibited since the GFC is in no way inspiring the investor confidence required for recovery.
