Food stamps is a state issued thing. Thank goodness more people are actually applying and receiving food - often times people like to use these "statistics" as a cause and effect.
Medicare fraud, mortgage fraud, identity are up - why because it exists now because of mass technology -
food stamp has increased because more people know about and apply for it and are eligible to receive it. in the olden days we all used to grow our own vegetables or if we lived in the rural areas we went to fresh markets - those days are gone.

The coming Monday night debate is on foreign policies. One that potentially has great international repercussions....is the South China Sea area were China, Phillipine, Vet Nam, Japan and others tug for control on some small islands. Islands with a large oil field underneath.
To date...the US has not sent any major warship to the area. But that just changed....as the Washington Battle Carrier group from Japan just arrived.
Now this is the same Battle Carrier group that deployed from Japan to the Yellow sea to keep North Korea from shelling more of South Korea. So without the USS Washington in region to monitor North Korea....what does North Korea do? Threatens South Korea with military actions for leaflet balloons.
Clearly President Obama sent and timed the Washington's deployment to the South China sea area for the debate. I know millions in fuel is being wasted for a photo opt. But he wanted to take a arrow from the Romney quiver.
But now he just proved Romney's main assertion. That we need a large Navy because we don't have the fleet size to take on all these multiple situation and threats. Because if there was a second battle career fleet in Japan.....North Korea would not be threatening South Korea with aggression over some leaflets....many that carry a $1...for food to the North.

Don't worry about not being a expert on US politics. The threads OP is hardly one either.....so feel free to shout out your opinions of men and women in American politics.
As for Ron Paul....he knows his budget stuff.....but his views on the world are not accepted by most Americans.
A slight correction is needed....though Buchanan would enjoy being called a Lord.....we bumped the British out a long time ago. It is not one of our titles now...))....though I suspect DEMs in Congress will soon make a bill for making President Obama...a Prince Obama if this election goes badly for him.
Buchanan is a solid conservative America politician. He knows the debate areas and the pitfalls. He just was sidelined as being 'to far right'.....to make it on the big stage of Washington.

The CBO said it is going to be incredibly expensive....and the thing I am worried about is, if it is the failure that I think it would set health reform back a long time."

We know only to well of the Japanese WWII abuses, Liz. Many Americans civilian and military were in their POW camps. We had trials after WWII that found many of the Japanese command guilty of the atrocities and they were sentenced to be hung or have prison time.
In fact.....China was one of the parties that took part in the atrocity trials.
60 years later, China want to continue this.....in the court of public opinion, when it was settled post WWII in court.
Japan has a right as a government to buy land and islands. It has bought the South Sea Island in good faith from the owner. China being a communist country, frowns on commercial enterprise of near every kind, unless it is to the benefit of the state.
If China felt so strongly of these island, following WWII. It had legal recourse at the time and since to do so. But after Japan land a ligit deal that would give it them mineral rights. Suddenly China wants them? And it is pressing Japanese recongtion events of WWII, that were litigated years ago?

TTom50: The coming Monday night debate is on foreign policies. One that potentially has great international repercussions....is the South China Sea area were China, Phillipine, Vet Nam, Japan and others tug for control on some small islands. Islands with a large oil field underneath.
To date...the US has not sent any major warship to the area. But that just changed....as the Washington Battle Carrier group from Japan just arrived.
Now this is the same Battle Carrier group that deployed from Japan to the Yellow sea to keep North Korea from shelling more of South Korea. So without the USS Washington in region to monitor North Korea....what does North Korea do? Threatens South Korea with military actions for leaflet balloons.
Clearly President Obama sent and timed the Washington's deployment to the South China sea area for the debate. I know millions in fuel is being wasted for a photo opt. But he wanted to take a arrow from the Romney quiver.
But now he just proved Romney's main assertion. That we need a large Navy because we don't have the fleet size to take on all these multiple situation and threats. Because if there was a second battle career fleet in Japan.....North Korea would not be threatening South Korea with aggression over some leaflets....many that carry a $1...for food to the North.
Just like Robin Hood. All Romney has to do is string two arrows on the bow, Monday night.....and he can place two arrows into Obama's foreign policy and his shift of the US military focus to Asia and the Pacific rim.
