lalasierra: I have held literally thousands including assault rifles.
When I was in my mid 20's and married my partner and I moved to New Orleans for a job transfer he received. I looked for a job and landed an interview with a company called Elliot's Small Arms. I had no idea it was a gun shop, not to mention the largest in New Orleans. The name of the shop didn't give it away because I knew nothing about guns at the time.
Long story short, I walked in for my interview for a secretarial position and was shocked by the site of all the guns and began to leave. The owner talked me into staying for the interview and offered me the job because he liked my credentials, qualities and personality and offered me a hefty hourly + commision job. I turned it down but he insisted I give it a try. I ended up learning about thousands of models and ammo, learned how to shoot, break down and clean a gun/rifle and put it back together and became their#1 sales woman and made tons of money for myself and the company.
It was one of my favorite jobs ever but I would never want to use one in self defense. I'd rather kick-box someone's *ss!
I agree that it really isn't necessary to have one UNLESS your opponent has one. I've loaded, held and fired several calibres of hand guns (at a range) and also fired numerous calibres of rifles and shotguns. It's an interesting sport if treated with respect and safety.

I enjoy it very much but it is to be taken very seriously.
One day a man came in to the shop and stole a 15 round clip, right after the Brady Bill. One of the sales people drew on him! I said to him "are you crazy? It's not worth a life!" Some people are just gun-happy! Stupid!

Lala I'm truly shocked after our mutual shame and bonding a couple of nights ago when we were unable to post videos.
It does explain your liking for Tarantino movies though.

galrads: Sad that you find my valid enquiry and "unnecessary derision". Very patronizing of you to expect anyone to believe that only people in the USA possess a firearm.
So, please, tell me, what is wrong with wanting to know what the OP means by "live" firearm. And what is wrong with believing owning any type of firearm is a BFD?
We in the USA believe in free speech, especially when we have valid questions. Most of us still prefer not to subjugate or turn over our freedoms to anyone else.
Maybe, in an effort to avoid future CS misunderstanding or miscommunication certain people intimidated by any valid question, like mine, should limit their threads to their locality.
instead of PC police, If the OP dislikes someone elses questions, he should say so or ask wuz up, don't you think?
galrads...can't you see the irony in this post?...
If you can't, I ain't going to explain it to you...

That's funny! I never was able to post video's, something is wrong and it's not me, lol. Were you able to? Last I checked on you, no you hadn't yet.
Yes, I do love Tarantino films, lol. If I ever post my picture, you will not think that I look the type to either pack or be so knowledgeable, just the oppposite, lol. Not to stereotype, but you know what I mean.
nonsmoker: Be it sport, crime, Law enforcement home security. Have you held one. And its HOLD as in to PICK UP. not to be confused with LICENSED TO CARRY.
Just about every day of the past 40 years. I legally carried one concealed for a very long time (26 yrs.) and with my retired ID still can but rarely bother since this state also allows open carry without any license being needed. Many different sizes, shapes, calibers and types over the years. In America if you live in a remote rural area and you call the police, sometimes on Sundays or late at night you may just get a voice mail recording, because it is only a small department, or maybe you get a sleepy dispatcher who tells you the only deputy on duty is at a bad auto accident 30 miles on the other side of the county but the message you need him too will be passed on, try to survive until then. Likewise, living in a rural area where hunting is legal, a well placed shot from a firearm is the quickest and most humane way of putting meat on the table. My wife used to shoot too and when she was alive there was a loaded gun in almost every room at her request. Nothing like going to the front door and seeing a 400 pound bear right by the door.
bodleing: It might not be a big deal in the States galrads but the vast majority of people in the uk at least have never held a firearm.
Hard to think that we can live in a world without guns. It is always good to hold one and to fire it maybe, but it is another thing to look at the result of gunshots. If you stay away from guns it is much better because if you have one around someone is likely to get hurt by it, maybe you. Yes I have held it, also been robbed by gunmen. I am not in any hurry to smell gunpowder however.

Yes, I have. Was surprised of it's weight the first time I held it.
