The pharmacological effects of tobacco and cannabis smoke differ in many ways, mainly because tobacco smoke contains nicotine while cannabis smoke contains tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). The cancer-promoting effects of smoke are increased by nicotine, while they are reduced by THC.
celibate: Im curious as to how many people use marijuana.
I'll smoke out once or twice a year, but that's it. And it's usually when I'm kinda drunk at some after party.
I had my pothead phase in my 20's, and I guess it served its purpose at the time haha! I did smoke out a bit more in my early 30's, like 1-2 times a month, but these days I just prefer to only drink.
I don't see any issues with it really, I just don't like doing it anymore.

Well, I forgot to add that weed is not the best thing for a teen to get into---especially if they start burning everyday and become really irresponsible. Some teens can pull it off, but from what I have seen, heavy use leads to bad things---like bad grades, obesity, being non-active, and maybe trying other drugs---I'm not saying it's a gateway drug, but if you are in company that has some other "goodies" besides the green, then exploration can turn out bad if somebody get hooked on meth---that is just a little example and not a description of how things will always turn out. Cigarettes and alcohol are always done first before any other drug, so there is your gateway drug lol.
Yes,I have smoked daily for over twenty years!Apart from a bit to much of this I,ve had no real problems but there's no doubt that some do!As some have already mentioned, predisposition seems to be a major factor in any associated illness of the mind!

My smoking history consists of one gagging, coughing puff of a cigarette we took from my father when I was in the 4th grade. Never tried anything else. One cigarette was enough to satisfy my curiosity about the attraction of smoking = not for me.

I used to smoke it in my younger days, but as with any psychoactive substance, I'm a bit of a light-weight and ultimately, I found it made me groggy the next day. I did rather enjoy the way it made my mind worked, though.
My opinion of psychoactive substance use has been clouded by my daughter's father who misused. It can be so horribly destructive when someone is dependant upon any any psychoactive substance.

leostartingover: I disagree. Not re: the bottom bit, but re: not seeing problems with it. I don't think it should be legalised, for the following reasons:
It has been suggested that marijuana is at the root of many mental disorders, including acute toxic psychosis, panic attacks (one of the very conditions it is being used experimentally to treat), flashbacks, delusions, depersonalization, hallucinations, paranoia, depression, and uncontrollable aggressiveness. Marijuana has long been known to trigger attacks of mental illness, such as bipolar (manic-depressive) psychosis and schizophrenia. This connection with mental illness should make health care providers for terminally ill patients and the patients themselves, who may already be suffering from some form of clinical depression, weigh very carefully the pros and cons of adopting a therapeutic course of marijuana.
In the short term, marijuana use impairs perception, judgment, thinking, memory, and learning; memory defects may persist six weeks after last use. Mental disorders connected with marijuana use merit their own category in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) IV, published by the American Psychiatric Association. These include Cannabis Intoxication (consisting of impaired motor coordination, anxiety, impaired judgment, sensation of slowed time, social withdrawal, and often includes perceptual disturbances; Cannabis Intoxication Delirium (memory deficit, disorientation); Cannabis Induced Psychotic Disorder, Delusions; Cannabis Induced Psychotic Disorder, Hallucinations; and Cannabis Induced Anxiety Disorder.
In addition, marijuana use has many indirect effects on health. Its effect on coordination, perception, and judgment means that it causes a number of accidents, vehicular and otherwise.
I'd rather go from personal experience. I and most people I know have used cannabis since the sixties. I have yet to come across anyone who has suffered any of the above. On the other hand I have known many people who's lives have been wrecked or even terminated by the excessive use of alcohol.
