RE: i play the no lose lottery ,,

@ edison

Wow that's extremely judgemental of you . Did I touch a nerve?

I hate Nigel Farage and have not a lot of love for our P.M I made a choice to leave the E.U so that Britain could take back control of it's policies and not belong to a dictatorship .

Incidentally the P.M renounced his U.S. citizenship ages ago. Do keep up.

If as I assume you live in Bulgaria then you will know that as a newbie to the E.U. you are one of the poorest countries within the EU and not quite well seated in it either ,due to your borders and other issues that to my knowledge have not yet been resolved., though I could be wrong.

I didn't expect you to get so personal over the discussion of money but so be it. I'm not thinking of emigrating .Our country no longer fits your bill so stay where you are then but please don't try to demean a country that you chose to live in when it suited your purpose.scold

RE: i play the no lose lottery ,,

@ edison

I'm still happy and comfortable living in Blighty and whether your economy is half the price of ours makes no difference to my roots which are deeply rooted here.

As for pensions you need to do the maths. In this country we probably contribute about 8% of our wages whereas some countries contribute 18% . That's why we have this gap. We also support those financially that fall short of the living wage.

Our bank balance proves beyond doubt that we have been in the E.U for far too long and now have control of our policies thank goodness. It speaks volumes that many expats are desperate to return to the UK since Brexit as many of my friends have already done. There are already other countries within the EU that are unhappy so one wonders just how long it will exist especially with the loss of one of the largest financial input from the UK now withdrawn.

Personally for me it's being happy and comfortable in my own skin. Life isn't all about money and poverty is everywhere not just here.

RE: i play the no lose lottery ,,

@edison

Gee thanks. This is my country of birth and I'm proud of it. What country hasn't got problems including ours. For a small island we are still in the top 10 World economic stakes and finally out of the E.U.

As for finance I'm not a greedy person and have enough for a comfortable lifestyle .grin

RE: i play the no lose lottery ,,

@ edison.

Just looked up bonds and yes they are still available with a much higher rate of interest .

Mine was invested for 1 year so I made about 2k for a year's investment with no deductions which is much better than bank rates.

Not in to any form of investment now as with the current climate too much risk involved. My home has shot up in value so the original cost was well worth it.grin

RE: There was a time, years ago...

@ Vierk

Ok I'll stop searching then.

With regards the Beep I'd rather watch them than other newscasters in the U.K I'm sure with the many stations you have in the States there are those that are biased too.

I hate G.M.T.V with a vengeance as I just can't stand Piers Morgan. Total a'hole.handshake

RE: i play the no lose lottery ,,

@ edison

Some years ago I invested 50k into a bond with my bank. It paid me average of £160 a month and when I cashed it in a year later to buy a property I got the whole 50k back and paid no tax.

Now that's what I call a good return for my money. Don't know if they still do them these days.

RE: i play the no lose lottery ,,

@ edison

Which country are you talking about . I did ask but you haven't saiddunno

RE: There was a time, years ago...

@ Vierk

You leave the Beeb alone and stick to your own newscasters.tongue

RE: i play the no lose lottery ,,

Hi unfayzed

The UK lottery is non taxable However, winners are subject to taxes such as income or gift tax. There are also various taxes involved when banking your winnings ASyou well know nothing comes free in this World grin

RE: i play the no lose lottery ,,

@ edison

So if it's Government owned why can you not tell people how to invest or is not in the UK.dunno

RE: LIKE A THIEF IN THE NIGHT

@stringman.

I don't think the Israelis would be happy with your post about the deaths in Israel do you.scold

JERUSALEM – The risk of illness from COVID-19 dropped 95.8 per cent among people who received both shots of Pfizer’s vaccine, Israel’s Health Ministry said on Saturday.

The vaccine was also 98 per cent effective in preventing fever or breathing problems and 98.9 per cent effective in preventing hospitalisations and death, the ministry said.

The findings were based on data collected nationally through February 13 from Israelis who had received their second shot at least two weeks previously. According to the Health Ministry’s website, about 1.7 million people had been administered a second shot by January 30, making them eligible to be included.

Israel’s ambitious vaccination drive has made it the largest real-world study of Pfizer’s vaccine and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Saturday he expects 95 per cent of Israelis age 50 and over to be vaccinated in the next two weeks.

Previous reports from individual health care providers also showed positive results, spurring Israel to remove restrictions on the economy after weeks of lockdown. On Sunday, schools and many stores will be allowed to reopen.

RE: i play the no lose lottery ,,

Most of these "round the world " yacht races are sponsored .

One could question all the money spent on Space probe when it could be put to better use on earth.sigh

RE: LIKE A THIEF IN THE NIGHT

@ Rosehipster

Thanks for clearing that up. I assumed that as you had posted my comment that you were referring to me.handshake

RE: LIKE A THIEF IN THE NIGHT

@ Rosehipster

Did I say I was afraid?

What I said was that I trust others to have my best interests at heart or words to that effect. I listen to my own heart and make my own decisions and have or never will be afraid of dying whenever that happens.

After all no-one has the gift of earthly eternal life. Life itself is a gift and should be treasured.handshake

RE: LIKE A THIEF IN THE NIGHT

@ stringman

It's not about belief with me it's about having trust, and I trust my instincts that my fellow humans will do what is regarded as their best for me under these extenuating circumstances.

I've lost 3 friends to this virus and have 7 more just been diagnosed so if something can give my immune system a boost and protect me then I will take their advice.

I also refuse to be blind sided by internet know it all videos .handshake

RE: LIKE A THIEF IN THE NIGHT

@ stringman.

I've had mine and still here.

Are you actually believing this story because if you are taking it as gospel then according to statistics the 2.4 million people across the Globe that have be vaccinated already should actually be dead or dying..confused

RE: ACV Vinegar

Here's a link to 6 ACV recipes All healthy but if you have a problem with acid reflux don't use turmeric.

RE: expats and the like ,,,,

@ Exred

So true that.

England welcomes all nationalities but they do usually act like herd animals and stick to their own roots and language.handshake

RE: homeless people ,,,,

Having a home is considered a basic need of life, but there are actually many people who have no shelter.

This is a thought provoking read.

RE: homeless people ,,,,

@ edison

I have the greatest empathy for homeless people but it is getting hard to differentiate between the genuine person on the street or the con person. of which there are now many.

As you say this is a huge problem across the World and I guess could get worse due to the current ongoing issues of mass unemployment etc.

I try to assist by offering food and a hot drink rather than money which most people have been grateful for. Unfortunately some local Councils want to ignore the problem which just makes matters worse. I know of one area where the seats in the Public Gardens were fitted with a centre piece to deter people sleeping on them. Fortunately there was a protest and they were removed.

I'm pretty certain most people would prefer a decent roof over their head than a cardboard box.sigh

RE: Covid 19 vaccine

@Sir_T

Not wishing to repeat all that is posted in your comments I would just like to comment on the person who stated that lying on the stomach was bulls--t.

Many hospitals have adopted this position especially in I.T.U when patients are on ventilators . Can't imagine Consultants etc putting people's lives at more risk unless they know that it works.sigh

RE: Covid 19 vaccine

@ Lukeon

What a refreshing change to read some good, positive advice instead of chapter and verse from so called know it alls.hug

RE: Covid 19 vaccine

Wondered why my right arm kept lifting up without any help. Now I know why. Had my shot on Tuesday.grin

RE: If

Hardly suitable or apt and certainly not meant as an adulation. It was written in respect of honourable men. who died in battle defending their country . Hardly a tribute to a draft dodger.

The poem If uses figurative language. Figurative language uses words and phrases that are not meant to be taken for real in a literal way. It uses a phrase that describes something by comparing it to some other thing or as a symbol of some action. This is known as a metaphor.
