RE: What is the most "boring" film you've ever seen?

How to Murder A President,
It is the final word, the ultimate meaning of BORING.

RE: Obama Is Just Like Bush!

To paraphrase the Diebolt Corporation (they make the voting machines that any idiot can hack into and change your votes or be preprogrammed to alter your vote if you vote for "the wrong candidate"): 'Go ahead and vote, the election has already been decided, whether you vote or not...so go ahead exercise your right to vote.'

RE: Life's Transitions

I meant it as in past tense; already experienced. Becoming a widower just took all the great fun of Life right out.
It was bad enough to realize one day that while in the service, everyone that I knew and cared about was dead, but this time the effect was vastly different as were the circumstances.

RE: What is...

"They are good for entertainment value only"

Au contraire.....blow-up dolls have more entertainment values and character, integrity with intellectual viability. %D
Plastic 'people' not only look like fake humans but are about as interesting as a Ken or Barbie doll, though not their blow-up versions....

RE: Life's Transitions

For myself it would be E and F; the Alpha and the Omega of Life. As a song goes, 'it's all over now....'
The rest, I don't give a damn about, never did. Hopefully the next Life will be a lot better...

RE: Why Do We Indulge Delusions?

I think of the 'futures' predicted , or designed for us from Jules Verne, to the likes of Alistair Crowley to Huxley's 'Brave New World' as various dictators, madmen and other would be social engineers have tried to impose on us via the medias, laws and wars and I keep returning back to the foreword of Huxley when he finally wrote the most neglected sequel to Brave New World, in Brave New World Revisited. It bears looking up and thinking about it before proceeding on to read the book. Some may want a bucket nearby...

RE: New oil highs

Wall Mart wants to expand to selling cars and possibly gas...LOL!! True
Bike sales are going crazy here in Europe and now can't keep up with the ordinary 2 or 3 gear ones. Many motorists are starting to carry bikes in their cars...they drive part way park and bike through the city streets; some park both and use the streetcars...many bikes come with baskets for groceries....one sees whole families out doing their shopping this way....

RE: Obama for president......Battle of Island Number Ten!

If this has finally reached the long overdue vainglorious end, let me put this forward as an obit...
We kill ourselves slowly, by eating too much or too little, becoming fat, or anorexic, or diabetic, physically and psychologically we wither away in our cultures of collective self-absorption and material sloth, and our boundless, insatiable greed now threatens to drag the entire planet down with us all.
Meanwhile, in the the eyes of most, via your very selective media outlets, the Islamist suicide bomber has come to epitomize "the terrorist", a modern savage, a psychopathic degenerate utterly disconnected from any redeeming social or moral values. Yet, in fact, this "other" is a man (usually) whose life revolves around the mosque, daily prayer, restrained dress, moderate fasting, a tight-knit family and community. When pushed to the limit, as there is always a limit for all, a committed Muslim may decide to sacrifice his own life, his own body, for what he sees as a greater social and spiritual good. Which one of you in your wild west version of 'the Christian West' will do this now or ever...This is the Existential Divide that separates you from the rest of the world at large. Obama, McCain et al, will make no differences whatsoever to decrease the divide. RIP one and all.

RE: Emptied out the storage space!!

Absolutely! My own collection go from the cylinders by the Edison recording through both 45's of the Rock 'n' Roll years from "53 through the 60's and the LP's covering a lot of categories. The oldest disc is from 1908 the record in one-quarter of an inch thick; Dixie sung by a Mabel Garrison in ...Soprano!!It's bizarre and hilarious.... I'm keeping them and hopefully my children will appreciate them or their values...

RE: What is the best way to break up with someone?

Aside from the obvious based solely on lust and rampaging hormones, relationships that form under extreme conditions never work out. Sooner or later one or both realize it. They do not walk, ride or fly off into some heavenly bliss for 'ever after' in some LaLa land as in movies or stories in a book, which now reminds me of the movie Speed in which in fact it is said. It was a good realistic assessment.
But we all feel in our 'gut' if and when a breakup in inevitable or when it's coming, yet so many try and avoid it hoping to make it go away....that is very hard to deal with face to face without a scene. In some cases, the long distance good bye, good luck or go to Hell is the best way but ending it with some dignity for both is best. I have never understood personally the need for cheating as one mentioned...why bother just pack and make the 'exit, stage left'. Honesty and dignity is not that hard, is it.....

RE: What is the best way to break up with someone?

People stop caring about the other for a number of reasons. Love turns selfish and that is the point of the break-up. With so many loons out there, the potential for violence ca and should be avoided with a face-to-face at times. A box of dead flowers maibe with thorns would be better with a card: 'You're history, have a nice day' would suffice or a post card from some far away exotic place: 'Having wonderful time; happy you're not here!' can also work well. Less melodramatic and 'messy' Either way, it avoids recriminations and jealous outrage...or a smack or drink, or even a pie in the face...%D

RE: Being a Christian....

LOL! Have a drink on me, please feel free! Ain't Freedom great...I will have a drink...I will not have a drink...I will; damn right I will! %D

RE: Being a Christian....

One last observation: When I really thought about all the advantages that my own family could have had had they given up on it and it's teachings I see as that they had the privilege of 'foresight' as we today have the benefits of 'hindsights' to help us make our many choices...the past and the present and possibly the future have been brought closer together and hopefully to make a better future...

RE: Being a Christian....

continued

There are five principles that underlie the Christian concept of social freedom. (1) Freedom has a transcendental aspect, whereby it is indivisible, both spontaneous and actuated by decision: it follows the voice of conscience determined by nature, culture, education, and other factors. (2) Freedom is not a simple state or a pure act (like divine freedom) but it uses the technical, acquired, and environmental conditions to transform man's actions into art or works of beauty, for example. (3) Freedom has a principle of sociality, meaning that the individual does not act alone in most works but unites with other free persons to achieve a division of labour and integrated achievements. (4) Freedom acts through the person who freely disposes themselves to come into full self-possession.
(5) All of these culminate in the principle of subsidiary---freedom to act is essential to the person's personality, his or her very mode of being. All other works toward the realization of self are only modes referred back to the person. Thus they can be nothing else but an end in themselves, a person with inviolable dignity.
Religious freedom is the right inherent in the lives of human persons whereby they freely exercise and pursue religious practices and teachings in civil society. Concerning this, Vatican 2 declares with emphatic words: "Among the things which concern the good of the Church and indeed the welfare of society here on earth---things therefore which are always and everywhere to be kept secure and defended against all injury---this certainly is preeminent, namely, that the Church should enjoy that full measure of freedom which her care for the salvation of men requires. This freedom is sacred, because the only begotten son endowed with it the Church, which He purchased with his blood. It is so much the property of the Church that to act against it is to act against the will of God. The freedom of the Church is the fundamental principle in what concerns the relations between the Church and government and the whole of civil order.
Freedom of the will is the exercise of the spiritual faculty or power of the soul(the will) in making a choice. Through will, an individual seeks to perform an act or to attain an object proposed by the intellect. The will always has for its object the good, and even the choice of evil must be suggested under the appearance of good. (like our notorious politicians...%D)
Freedom of the will has this essential: a freedom of contradiction, that is, to act or not to act on something proposed by the intellect. It likewise possesses, but not essentially, the freedom of contraries, that is, the choice of doing one thing or another. It also has spiritual significance in the choice of the individual vocation in service of the good. It is as St. Paul declared: "My brothers, remember that you have been called to live in freedom---but not a freedom that gives free rein to the flesh. Out of love, place yourselves at one another's service".
I hope that somehow the problems many have in understanding and comprehending what "free will" is and is not can make use of this. But reading alone does not really sink in without adequate teachers so, make full use of them. Talk to the religious teachers in as many churches and temples and synagogues as possible of this. Not only will you meet with interesting people but will be exposed to absolutely fascinating lessons in logic and perspectives, which is the choice I made . The more one learns of our worlds , the closer we can come to each other. This is what I've learned; exercise your free will. That is what I also learned from reading about the many family ties to the Church from the knights in the military orders to being the Papal Grand Inquisitor of Europe...for many the choice to remain in a Church constantly under one form of a siege or another was their freedom of choice, their right of free will.

RE: Obama Is Just Like Bush!

OH, I just knew that you would be SO Thrilled hearing and seeing those 2 clown puppets at the AIPAC meeting, falling all over themselves in proclaiming american subservience to the Zionists...(so what else is new...) %D

RE: What is your favorite beer?

The only North American beer that I've ever liked is now only sold in Illinois, I believe: "Hopin' Gator" Found it in Maryland, tried a 6pack driving home, did a U turn back to the store and bought the only 6 cases he had that day. Did it once more and then no more...gone.
Norway: AASS BOCK beer
Sweden: Gorrilla
Finland: Jouloulot Christmas beer (seasonal only)
Belgium Most any, especially the 'Avec les Bons Voeux...at 9.5% and some only from the various abbeys
Germany...haven't yet finished trying all of them, Bavaria has over 77 breweries, Cologne over 20....(about 30% of all breweries in the world are in Germany.... NOT counting the abbeys and cloisters that brew their own private stocks...umm yum...)

RE: MOST BEAUTIFULL CITY IN THE WORLD

"The foods, the people, the art, the history, the architecture, the smells, the energies, the treasures (big and small), there's so many things that make a city beautiful..." quoted partially from Senenity's post...

Ummmm, that could me Wall Mart, or what's the ol' joke city from Laugh In...Burbank Studios, California! Maybe Boring, Oregon...%D

RE: worst possible names for you children

Any children's names after any and all pharmaceuticals and medicines...also after cleaning fluids...like one I met, her name was Turpentine...wtf gives with those moron parents!? (Especially in the some of the southern states)...who in the hell would name their children Anacin or Maalox...well, at least I never met one called Preparation H...Codeine wasn't so bad...

RE: Yomama for president!.....Bottle of Thousand island!

Vicious! Stark raving viciously hysterical! LMAO %D

RE: Are Those Shackels Begining To Feel A Little Snug?

Well, there always those who will stand up for the right to be stupid and who adamantly refuse to learn from history as to what works best for the most and what doesn't No society tolerates dictatorial policies for long. The 'we' that make up society rather like to make it ourselves without being dictated to by any politicians who really, when all is said done belong on lampposts throughout the country, not in plush offices while their own people can't make ends meet.

RE: what is war?

"My point is that its not always the powerful that start wars. Sometimes those that have no other recourse, those that have continually turned the other cheek, or those who through the ages have just become mad as hell and are not gonna take it anymore are forced to this avenue of action.

Be it the groups who only has stones and sticks against the tyranny of a power that has high tech instruments of death. Its become to en vogue /simple to say War is never necessary.

Still stand by my original thought, sadly conditions will always arise where war will be a necessity for survival and growth of a people or a society " quoted from above post.

War as self defence,; as a result of provocation under extreme circumstances is not war; it is simply self defence. Muggers, Rapists, murderers wage a war against people in general; against society. Individuals do not wage war when attacked if they defend themselves. Same for the much less powerful countries. War is aggressive by it's very nature this is the essence of it, to attack, to be offensive, to offend. Hence the true essence of the differences between 'offensive and 'defensive'. Powerful countries do not wage defensive wars...unless you have been watching the Peter Sellers movie "The Mouse That Roared"...wherein the US had to surrender to a country smaller than some Wall Mart parking lots...%D Oh where is the thread 'What is Love?"...that is a lot more positive(!) as well as uplifting and creative , even inspirational! %D

RE: what is war?

Excellent; the real 'nitty-gritty' of what people really are asking from their God...reminds me of Bob Dylan's 'with God on their side' and of Larry Flint, Hustler publisher when he asked people which was the more obscene in life...seeing a man and a woman making love or the carnage of war. during his legal battles fighting charges of 'obscenity'. Not much has changed; war is still actively pursued with flags flying and the young and naive brainwashed still enlisting in armies for countries that promote war...

RE: what is love?

There are as many definitions and types of Love as there days of a year; Love can be said to be the absence of Hatred...of indifference;
Love is Creation; it is the Light against the Darkness; against the nothingness, of oblivion. Love is Life; Love is the most universal, the most tremendous and the most mysterious of all the cosmic forces.
The most telling and profound way of describing the evolution of the universe would undoubtedly be to trace the evolution of love...the play of countless subtle antennae seeking one another in the light and darkness of the soul; the pull towards mutual sensibility and completion, in which preoccupation with preserving the species gradually dissolves in the greater intoxication of two people consummating a world. It is in reality the universe that is pressing on, through woman, towards man. The whole question,(the vital question for the earth), is that they shall recognize one another.
If man fails to recognize the true nature, the true object of his love, the confusion is vast and irremediable. Bent on assuaging a passion intended for the All on an object too small to satisfy it, he will strive to compensate a fundamental imbalance by materialism or an ever increasing multiplicity of experiments with , in todays jargon are 'throw-away affairs' His efforts shall always be fruitless, and in the eyes of one who can see the inestimable value of the 'spiritual quantum' of man, a terrible waste.
If only man would turn and see the reality of the universe shinning in the spirit and through the flesh. He would then discover the reason for what has always, hitherto deceived and perverted his powers of love.
Woman stands before him as the lure and symbol of the world. He cannot embrace her except by himself growing, in his turn, to a world scale. And because this world is always ahead of us, to acheive his love man is engaged in a limitless conquest of the universe and himself. In this sense, man can only attain woman by consummating a union with the universe. Love is a sacred reserve of energy; it is like the blood of spiritual evolution contrary to an earlier post. This is the first revelation we receive from the sense of our earth.
Yet Love, is the greatest mystery...the ultimate fantastic voyage we make while on earth...ie. Love is the roller coaster ride of Life. %)

RE: what is war?

It is Humankind's greatest obscenity, be it against each other or our planet.

RE: When will Cuba stop punching the USA in the fist with its face?

Newsweek had an in depth interview with 'Arnie baby' and the reporter asked about turning California into what is essentially a nation-state:
"What we do here will have such a huge impact. We have such an unbelievable influence on the rest of the globe. We are a nation-state.
We are the sixth largest, seventh largest economy in the world. We make our own deals with countries , with Japan, with China and Canada. We rely on the federal government but we are also relying on ourselves. We're acting as a new country." April 16 2007 issue.
Some in the California political system are beginning to think that the next logical step is to have extra Ambassadorial representatives to countries that the paranoid neocon Republicans refuse to deal with as to them, they do not exist as they are deemed 'evil' by the regime in Washington. Some already are thinking that California make ready to really take the ultimate logical further step of declaring independence from the Government in Washington. Potential allies for such a step has many supporters even among the western provinces of Canada. and has been brought up before. There is tremendous potential for such a move and from the total dissatisfaction of the western states in dealing with Washington, there is a real possibility of other states joining California if it decides to declare Independence. Arnie could then be it's first President or whatever title they decide on and tell the Eastern establishment to shove it. How would Washington stop this if it unfolds...force????? Invasion that "will shock and awe" the citizens of California!? or that old out of date solution of a blockade... I love the idea of any people, any region declaring independence, the more independent countries the better ! There's 'something magical' about it all, especially rebellion against a demagogic tyranny of a culture determined to thwart the right of people to pursue their happiness....even if it means getting rid of an oppressive corrupt system that only wages war on other countries too weak to defend themselves or their own people by destruction of their natural enviorment...imo.
