I haven't seen anything that could be called 'hateful' on this thread. Robust criticism of places and cultures yes but that isn't hate, not by most people's standards.
Yes it is largely a myth. Just because you want it to be true doesn't make it so. 'what Russians are and how they live.....I'm afraid it is, very much my business because Russia has become aggressive again and a danger to its neighbours..
You repulsed me from the start but I didn't let it bother me. We were the sick man of Europe but we've made huge progress since then, mostly because of the EU.
The Irish fame for drinking is mostly an urban myth. Our alcohol intake is a bit on the low side compared to the rest of western Europe. High alcoholism is a sign of a failing society, hence Russia's consistently high figures. Gorbachev came to power with one of his goals being to lower the rate.
Is it really that bad? Is this guy hurting you in some way? Most people would vomit at what is happening in Ukraine, not at some guy who is trans or non-binary or something like that.
Ok, so a few decades wouldn't be too bad. But what about 100 years? We were all just cannon fodder then who had to go to the trenches and get slaughtered just because some politicians said so. Would you want to be expendable like that? I wouldn't. That's what Putin has done. 200,000 Russian soldiers killed or wounded so far (that's just the Russians). He's brought Europe back to the days of slaughter with a completely unnecessary war.
Well I'd say Ireland is about the same as most other western countries. I would say it's worse in eastern Europe and Russia as the culture there is decades behind the west.
The next election?. Are you serious....the country is fighting for its survival. If Putin wins there will be no more elections in Ukraine, well, no more free ones anyway.
Your lack of human empathy is astonishing but not surprising at this stage. All the world is sending Ukraine weapons and money and oh boy do they deserve it. I am just back from my local post office where two Ukrainian women with no English were trying to send things back to Ukraine. These women were in their sixties I would say. Do you think people like that would flee to another country just for the fun of it?
