Indeed so Paddy and it is with this respect in mind that I address Soulfriend as Sir - and I am sure he wouldnt be posting if he wasnt prepared for dabate
I refused to have mine christened. I felt the need to protect them from any form of brainwashing or cult behaviours - they have all thanked me for this
Well, I know that some of the money from foodstuffs already goes on taxes, so in part answer to you Di, I say some goes to the government, some for costs, wages and other overheads but as for the profits - I am at a loss to comprehend
I once asked myself this question whilst waiting for the que to go down in asda/walmart, there must be such a lot of money goes through each and every one of those stores each day.
The dairy industry spends hundreds of millions of dollars every year to convince people to drink gallons of milk and stuff themselves with cheese, while responsible health officials warn that dairy products have four major drawbacks. Milk and cheese (1) are loaded with fat and cholesterol; (2) are frequently contaminated with pesticides, dioxins, and drugs; (3) are linked to obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and certain cancers, including prostate cancer and breast cancer; and (4) may even cause osteoporosis—the very disease that the dairy industry loves to use as a selling point in its ads—because the excess protein in dairy products leaches calcium from the bones.
I agree. Their sugar addictions start really early and become a way of life. I think it may be more productive to educate rather than tax but education costs money and taxes bring it in
I will look further into the steroid issues later.
I wonder if the increases in overweight people have more to do with feeding children milk from cows which are fed on steroids to increase their body mass and milk yield
But they do already pay, its about imposing taxes on peoples choices - whats wrong with the occasional bar of chocolate which is the way most of us choose. I dont know the figures but am sure most people choose moderation in these issues
A “fat tax” on salty, sugary and fatty foods could save thousands of lives each year, according to a study published on Thursday. Researchers at Oxford University say that charging Value Added Tax (VAT) at 17.5 percent on foods deemed to be unhealthy would cut consumer demand and reduce the number of heart attacks and strokes. The purchase tax is already levied on a small number of products such as potato crisps, ice cream, confectionery and chocolate biscuits, but most food is exempt. Any “fat tax” might be seen as an attack on personal freedom and would weigh more heavily on poorer families, the study warned. (Reuters)
What the heck will they come up with next? maybe a tax for not going to the gym three times a week or for not eating our veggies
To a very limited extent I actually do agree with the recent ban on smoking in public places imposed in England, that they trained an army of 'snoops' to impose it, I find abhorrent and a sneaky backdoor change to civil liberties - so what next I wonder? black market cakes, crisps and chocolate
Surely there are better ways to educate people about health than to impose taxes or is it all just down to social control
I have often thought how sad it is when these people completely overtake threads with their personal angers or ego issues - maybe somebody somewhere has a practical solution
I couldnt agree more. Flamebait is often grasped and run with totally unneccesarily in the selfish pursuit of ego gratification - making it very unpleasant for others to witness or even join an otherwise interesting debate -
I think Harry may crack the secret of the two way mirror or a whole lot of the characters will realise they have been in some sort of spell or other dimension or/and get Voldemort done away with securely once and for all
I will be in the midnight queues waiting for my copy have no fear - Yes, I have read them all so far, after the first one I was well and truly addicted and had no option but to eagerly await each one - not long to wait now 21st July HOORAY
I think the religious ones are pretty amusing too but we must remember that there are at least two sides to every story and with religion and the God issue there are those who claim not to know any absolutes as well - or that absolutes in this matter are pretty absurd as it has been unsucessfully debated by scholars for millenia - and I dont think they were all making reference to 'nothing'.
We can explain or clarify all we like on our given perceptions but there are always opposing views and if a persons views on any particular issue offends you, then you have the ultimate option of remaining true to yourself - there will always be a positive and a negative viewpoint - why stress!!!
I think there are lots of people on here, both men and women, at various stages of 'moving on' and this is a great place for people to share their hopes and fears and sometimes their disilusionments too.
Its a really good way to get get some feedback on how you are feeling and not to be so alone with your thoughts, to ask for help with these things isnt always easy but doing so shows a willingness to move on and to get beyond the things which still cause pain.
Its up to us to be cautious about engaging with a person, or not, who we consider may be carrying too much old baggage.
I think that possibly they go to church because they are 'Godfearing', they are brainwashed by dogma and promises of salvation into never questioning the authenticity of their beliefs by terrible stories which await none believers in the deep dark pits of hell.
