RE: What did you think of the movie 'Pride and Prejudice'?

I watched the film with my daughter when she was about 15.

Towards the end as the handsome and heroic Mr. Darcy strides across dewy the fields to pursue his passion, I narrowed my eyes, let out a deep sigh of longing and said,

"Just look at the tailoring on his coat!" heart wings

Apparently, that wasn't the correct response. giggle

RE: Emergency Situation In Canada

I think I would be dumb to make assumptions about things I don't know.

Clearly, if someone is very drunk, or very stoned, it will impair their driving abilities, but there seems to be a grey area regarding small amounts of psychoactive substances.

As I mentioned earlier, the moment there's a measurable amount of alcohol in the blood stream there's a measurable detriment in driving performance, and yet a specific measurable amount is legal.

Unless research is carried out to ascertain driving performance in conjunction with marijuana, how can any potential detriment, the nature of any detriment and quantities of psychoactive substance in the system be established?

Once results are published, peer reviewed, further researched, etc., there is a means of providing education so people can make responsible choices.

Personally, I agree with those who choose to avoid driving with any alcohol in their system, rather than merely staying within the law. With respect to marijuana use, I simply don't know without more information.

If there is a measurable detriment in driving performance with a measurable amount in the system, shouldn't that information be available, particularly as passive inhalation may be an issue?

I would suggest that the image of marijuana as an illegal, and therefore dangerous substance, impacts on people's assumptions. As alcohol is legal, and driving with a small amount in the system is legal, it's often perceived as being more benign than perhaps it is.

RE: Emergency Situation In Canada

I agree that driving under the influence of marijuana is probably not as dangerous as alcohol, but stupidly slow drivers are a potential hazard.

I know people who won't drive if there's any possibility that they have alcohol in their system, but that's not so easy to self-monitor with marijuana, given the length of time it takes to metabolise.

RE: Emergency Situation In Canada

So, presumably, people have to be careful about how much is in their system.

How easy is that to self-monitor?

Is there any research relating to marijuana use and driving performance?

Research has shown that the moment there is a measurable amount of alcohol in the system, there is a measurable detriment in driving performance. Specifically, alcohol in the system leads to overcompensation, or over-correction of driving deviations.

I find that a bit worrying, as it's legal to have a certain level of alcohol in the system.

RE: Emergency Situation In Canada

I was taking the piss out of the idea that pot smokers might riot, Track.

One thing does interest me, though: are there any laws about smoking and driving? I'm curious because it doesn't metabolise in the same way as alcohol and stays in the system for longer.

I don't mean to be negative, I think it's a bit silly that alcohol is legal and for the most part marijuana isn't, but I have some concerns about certain activities under the influence.

There'll be wanton fridge looting next, if they can be bothered to get off the sofa. professor

RE: are dogs losing their bark.

My dogs weren't very in touch with their wolf roots.

They used to sing along to the ice cream van.

RE: What do women prefer wearing

Patience, but it's wearing a bit thin. yawn

RE: Have women lost their femininity?

Role models aren't just for children and I'm sort of surprised you don't see that.

Also, in the context of this site, there's not much point in speaking with people who display negative role model behaviours.

That's kinda why I mostly ignore your posts.

RE: Have women lost their femininity?

What are you doing there with that comment?

Is that what you have to offer as a male role model?

RE: Have women lost their femininity?

And there was I thinking she saw herself as an exhausted drudge.

Oh wait, that bit hasn't changed all that much.

The elite haven't done a very good job, eh? laugh

RE: Have women lost their femininity?

Yeah, I'm so bitter about having to wax my chest.

RE: How high are your expectations??

I have no expectations.

Therefore, I expect my lack of expectations will be met.

RE: What things you should always keep in your purse or bag?

RE: Do women spend too much on clothes, make-up and mobile phones?

Fifi, it's not really a matter of turning.

I like men, women and everybody else, except Lee. laugh

RE: Do women spend too much on clothes, make-up and mobile phones?

There's a fabulously apt spelling mistake in there somewhere. rolling on the floor laughing

RE: Do women spend too much on clothes, make-up and mobile phones?

You want me to pretend Lee doesn't live down the road from me and the nice Irish fellas do?

That's so not going to work, Fifi. talk to hand

RE: Do women spend too much on clothes, make-up and mobile phones?

So, why is it Molly won't set up a Celt exchange programme with me...?

RE: What things you should always keep in your purse or bag?

Can we set up a Celt exchange programme...? grin

RE: What things you should always keep in your purse or bag?

I haven't had a Celt in me in a long time, Molly. sigh

It was the subtitles that worked for me. laugh

Use bobby pins when the Canada geese are migrating, eh? thumbs up

RE: What things you should always keep in your purse or bag?

I think it's supposed to be a bit of fun, limun.

The online psychology test is inherent in posting anything here. laugh

Rumour has it, it wouldn't be the first time a Ph.D student set up a site to analyse without people being aware they were a part of a study. I'm not sure how that would get past an ethics committee, but it has.

RE: What things you should always keep in your purse or bag?

Is food getting a bit pricey over there?

I'm thinking of harnessing the power of my pigtails flapping about in the wind.
