I watched the film with my daughter when she was about 15.
Towards the end as the handsome and heroic Mr. Darcy strides across dewy the fields to pursue his passion, I narrowed my eyes, let out a deep sigh of longing and said,
I think I would be dumb to make assumptions about things I don't know.
Clearly, if someone is very drunk, or very stoned, it will impair their driving abilities, but there seems to be a grey area regarding small amounts of psychoactive substances.
As I mentioned earlier, the moment there's a measurable amount of alcohol in the blood stream there's a measurable detriment in driving performance, and yet a specific measurable amount is legal.
Unless research is carried out to ascertain driving performance in conjunction with marijuana, how can any potential detriment, the nature of any detriment and quantities of psychoactive substance in the system be established?
Once results are published, peer reviewed, further researched, etc., there is a means of providing education so people can make responsible choices.
Personally, I agree with those who choose to avoid driving with any alcohol in their system, rather than merely staying within the law. With respect to marijuana use, I simply don't know without more information.
If there is a measurable detriment in driving performance with a measurable amount in the system, shouldn't that information be available, particularly as passive inhalation may be an issue?
I would suggest that the image of marijuana as an illegal, and therefore dangerous substance, impacts on people's assumptions. As alcohol is legal, and driving with a small amount in the system is legal, it's often perceived as being more benign than perhaps it is.
I agree that driving under the influence of marijuana is probably not as dangerous as alcohol, but stupidly slow drivers are a potential hazard.
I know people who won't drive if there's any possibility that they have alcohol in their system, but that's not so easy to self-monitor with marijuana, given the length of time it takes to metabolise.
So, presumably, people have to be careful about how much is in their system.
How easy is that to self-monitor?
Is there any research relating to marijuana use and driving performance?
Research has shown that the moment there is a measurable amount of alcohol in the system, there is a measurable detriment in driving performance. Specifically, alcohol in the system leads to overcompensation, or over-correction of driving deviations.
I find that a bit worrying, as it's legal to have a certain level of alcohol in the system.
I was taking the piss out of the idea that pot smokers might riot, Track.
One thing does interest me, though: are there any laws about smoking and driving? I'm curious because it doesn't metabolise in the same way as alcohol and stays in the system for longer.
I don't mean to be negative, I think it's a bit silly that alcohol is legal and for the most part marijuana isn't, but I have some concerns about certain activities under the influence.
The online psychology test is inherent in posting anything here.
Rumour has it, it wouldn't be the first time a Ph.D student set up a site to analyse without people being aware they were a part of a study. I'm not sure how that would get past an ethics committee, but it has.
RE: What did you think of the movie 'Pride and Prejudice'?

"Just look at the tailoring on his coat!"
Apparently, that wasn't the correct response.
