"It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ!"
"In every country and every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot ... they have perverted the purest religion ever preached to man into mystery and jargon, unintelligible to all mankind, and therefore the safer engine for their purpose."
Thomas Jefferson - to Horatio Spafford, March 17, 1814
You quoted here a bunch of Christians. Who cares about that? The men in question are the Deists. These are the 6 higher profile ones that we have been discussing on this thread.
A famous "quotation" by Patrick Henry: The first apparent forgery that we ran across was a famous sentence allegedly written by Patrick Henry:
"It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ!"
An impressive statement. It certainly gives credence to the belief that the founders of America were all or predominately devout Christians. It is a popular quotation. A search for the phrase "this great nation was founded not by religionists" on
returned almost 1,000 hits! One common feature of most of the quotations is that they do not cite the source. We suspect that most webmasters have simply quoted the writings of other webmasters.
It turns out that Patrick Henry probably never said this. At least, nobody has been able to locate it in any of his surviving papers. It is almost certainly a forgery.
I should probably keep going but this is already embarrassing enough. Do you take the non-believers for idiots?
Okay find for me WHERE Patrick Henry EVER actually made this quote. Prove that I am lying if you will be so kind sir.
Until you answer ONE question I have posed about the OT and god's supposed divine "love" why do you feel I will be interested in viewing that? I’ve actually seen it before. Any day now, senator. Thats only fair.
The Lorax was a really good one and had a strong environmental message. Interestingly enough, Greenpeace was also founded in 1971. The same year Dr. Seuss published "The Lorax." I’m not sure if that was only coincidence though.
You have NEVER once been capable of answering ANY question posed to you on these forums. This was a HYPOTHETICAL situation and I chose to reverse the scenario and state what I would ask god. You see it there. I will not fear a deity. You can fear a god if you like. I will not revere a concept that has been used to condone death, torture and imprisonment for thousands of years. I find that to be highly immoral.
Why would I "not be able to ask him questions" of this nature? Surely he should have explanations for me? Why would he take offense to such inquiries? Do you fear god so much that you are afraid to ask him yourself?
That’s probably true. Christians have historically been the aggressors and have always vied for more land, more converts, more money, more death, more everything. It is sad because initially, they were persecuted. The hope would have been that they would have LEARNED from this event but that never happened.
For those of you who are unaware, he was a very famous American children's book author. In fact many of us learned to read from his books (yours truly included.) Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!
"You won't see the Once-ler. Don't knock at his door. He stays in his Lerkim on top of his store. He lurks in his Lerkim, cold under the roof, where he makes his own clothes out of miff-muffered moof. And on special dank midnights in August, he peeks out of the shutters and sometimes he speaks and tells how the Lorax was lifted away."
Nope. I am not interested in that. I would ask about the hatred, bigotry and atrocities committed in his name. I would also ask about the Law and why heathens were stoned and women presumed not to be virgins on their wedding nights. God would get an earful out of me. I would also ask what "it" is and why do humans assume male.
Well there are actual "lies" in which you are deliberately being deceptive to a person and they are to assume you are telling the truth.
And then there is what you are describing which I would classify more as a joke because these men would have to be complete idiots to take what you are saying seriously.
Am I right here or misinterpreting what you are saying?
Yep you are right. If you scroll up a bit, I posted something about it. And as far as God being angry about it, yes thats true also. Everyone was pagan prior to the onset of monotheism and this new singular deity.
For worshipping other gods
If there be found among you ... that ... hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them ... Then shalt thou ... tone them with stones, till they die. Deuteronomy 17:2-5
If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers ... thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die. Deuteronomy 13:5-10
For witches and wizards
A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them. Leviticus 20:27
I just view it as "Christmas" being the Christian observance of the holiday and Yule being the Pagan celebration of the Winter Solstice. They are two separate holidays now in that sense. Much like Hanukkah and Christmas.
I didn’t write that just so you know. I took it from a website. I’m good but not that good. The dates are off and we have no proof of the existence of Jesus or Moses or Mary or Joseph or ANY of them really. Things could be mixed. There is a theory that Jesus actually represents a conglomeration of historical figures which would also make more sense.
The point being is that yes, your hunch was correct. Christmas was originally Yule and an observance of the Winter Solstice by the Pagans and it was slowly but surely absorbed by the Christians. This also occurred with Easter. Ask yourself why would Christians have anything to do with bunnies, chicks and colored eggs? The tradition of coloring eggs extends as far back as pre-dynastic Egypt.
I wasn't banned. Scroll up. I wasn't the first person to make this comment and probably won’t be the last. It was an ongoing joke if you had bothered to read the thread and I notice you never use my name but constantly take little swipes. Watch it woman. You should have been banned about a week ago.
RE: War against Christian
You have STILL NOT ADDRESSED the Patrick Henry forgery.
