The idea that Atlantis might be a memory of the fabulous palaces, courts and temples of Minoan Crete was proposed originally in an anonymous letter published by The Times newspaper in 1909 and found later to have been written by an Irish student named K. T. Frost. It was subsequently developed by a number of Mediterranean writers and historians (see reading list) and is today the most academically accepted theory on the origins of the Atlantis legend.
"It was, of course, a lie what you read about my religious convictions, a lie which is being systematically repeated. I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it."
I notice this site has fewer threads that go upwards of 15 pages. It just depends on the forum very often. The more people, the more new topics that are constantly being started so people lose interest in whatever one they are posting in.
I think we might have a failure to communicate. Albert Einstein was Jewish ethnically. He was not a follower of Judaism. That’s why I started this thread in fact.
"Albert Einstein was born March 14, 1879 in Ulm, a small town in Germany. His parents Hermann and Pauline were descendants of the Jewish German community having many generations living on German soil."
That was what I thought also. Although if you look at some of his writings, he seems to wobble on his "faith" at different points in his life. He sounds almost like an Atheist condemning the belief in a god or supernatural creator as foolish and other times he lightens up. Certainly not uncharacteristic for a scientist.
Most children are afraid to express their own opinion on religion. I remember when I was younger, much younger like elementary school age; I had a friend who had very devout Christian parents. At the time I didn’t understand what this was all about but her parents used to tell her things like "if she was bad, god would flood the earth again and drown everyone."
True. Pantheism is just a philosophy but its found its way into any number of religous faiths. Its the view that everything is part of an all-encompassing immanent abstract God. I was just thinking that it's similar to the understanding of god found in Deism. You are also right that this country (the United States) was founded by Deists and not Christians. Thats another thread.
Interesting! I have heard something along those lines also. Pantheism is not a "religion" but more of a philosophy that many religions have adopted. It does seem to make the most sense in many ways.
This topic grew out of another thread so I thought it deserved its own. What do you think? Be sure to provide supportive evidence as you might be required to cite sources if you utilize quotes.
I’m sorry but there is no reason (based on your fallacious posting history on this site) that I should believe anything you say over this credible website.
Well that is in direct conflict with what I just posted which was from a reputable source. I will take their word over yours. Galileans at the time that Christ was alive were Jews and descended of Judeans. That’s not really important anyway unless you can prove that Yahweh of the OT was not the same Yahweh of the NT.
Modern observant Jews no longer voice the name aloud. It is believed to be too sacred to be uttered and is often referred to as the 'Ineffable', 'Unutterable' or 'Distinctive Name'. Various proposals still exist for the vocalization of in which the stem of the name Yahweh (Yah) remains widely accepted but discrepancies exist on agreement of the ending ('weh'). Early Christian literature written in Greek used spellings that can be transcribed by 'Yahweh'. This pronunciation and spelling, as with many religious and scholarly issues, remains the subject of ongoing debate.
Was Albert Einstein a Theist or an Atheist?
I never said they were the same. I said based on that quote, he sounds like an Atheist. Either way, clearly he was not a theist if he was an agnostic.
