Solly and Sally, an old married couple, are sitting on the couch watching TV.
On the there'd been one of those medical emergency shows and now a debate show in which the panel were speaking about how to prepare in case of death etc.
“Honey,” says Solly, turning to his wife with a serious expression, “I want you to promise me, that if there ever comes a time that I am dependent on just machines and bottled fluid, that you will make sure to put an end to it.”
“No problem hun,” said Sally, and she promptly got up, turned off the TV, and poured his beer down the drain.
Cheers, my understanding was that he resided in ChCh - cheers for putting that right Rob.
I DID see that police were interested in a Dunedin property but at that time the news report indicated 'others' involved.
I agree 'hate crime' is more relevant than terrorism - terrorism generally involved groups and a wider spread of threat than just one fanatic - esp when that one is in immediate custody !
In the past it was the proud boast of the airline industry (and the US FAA) that they operated to a 'zerodefects' standard.
After TWO similar incidents and reports that other similar incidents had occurred in which the pilots 'saved' the plane one must wonder whether certain companies chose to put profit ahead of safety?
You might like to look out Ches (Sully) Sullenberger's opinions on the 737Max.
He's the airline captain who saved the lives of all onboard by emergency landing his plane on the Hudson River ... The FAA and Airline Industry for some time sought to BLAME HIM for the crash rather than recognising his intimate knowledge of the craft he was flying and his supreme skill in handing that craft.
Of course Sully was alive to argue his case - one has to wonder "How many Dead Pilots have unjustly carried the blame ?"
I suppose that it must be a sign of whatever advanced geriatric condition ails you that you only think it's 'probably' a good move to have grounded these aircraft.
Perhaps it never occurred to you that it might have been done sooner - there were already several reports fed back to the FAA and on to Boeing concerning the aircraft becoming violently uncontrollable under similar circumstances. (FYI NASA operate the anonymous professional concerns system on behalf of the industry )
I doubt you paused to consider the likely loss of life is such aircraft were to crash over a sizeable residential area ...
Tragedy brings out the best and worst worst in people M4 ...
There's been but one lone voice in NZ suggesting that 'All security eyes have been focused on Islamic people looking for trouble from that source, while none were looking at possible threats against them'
One can only hope that is not 'The spark that fans into a forest fire here ...'
Unless you;re in a position to offer evidence to support that statement - it's a savage assumption - I'd have expected something a little more considered from yourself.
FYI Friday is the Islamic day of worship (just as Jews observe Saturday and Christians do Sunday) Jews and Christian arrange their affairs to suit, so do Islamic people.
Odd ... the Israelis themselves only reported two missiles ... one they shot down and the other which (they said) fell harmless to earth in an open space.
But that's what fake news is all about ...
The Israelis have launched a 'measured response' on over ONE HUNDRED targets !!!!
So, that's 99 locations and populations that can't possibly have had anything to do with this ... and that assuming that there ever was ANY actual attack from Gaza.
But ... as some people don't exactly have a great reputation for telling the truth ... best never to assume anything any more ?
There could be ... but most guys expect basic IT literacy ... like being able to use the SEARCH function as opposed using the forums for self promotion !
If you feel that you have to do THIS - you must not be getting any attention, which kinda looks like bottom of the barrel ???
I'd not have thought they were 'that bad' ... but speaking of weapons - there's a whole raft of their new military aircraft that have been pulled from service due to problems with foreign bodies in the fuel system! And Lockheed are years overdue on the new F35 ... which also has a defect list that runs into hundreds (according to engineering staff ) but Congress winnowed it down to 100 ... cos they know better than engineers - right!!!
Trump said something interesting - about aircraft having become 'TOO complex' ?
Early days for that yet - but it will certainly happen. As I said earlier usual payout is 1 to 3 million US$ per life lost, plus the cost of the aircraft, plus loss of revenue + loss of reputation of the carrier.
The FAA say on the hand 'It's safe to fly' yet on the other have 'mandated software and system changes'. Dianne Feinstein has said the only intelligent thing I heard her say in decades - asking for them all to be grounded.
I suspect a different outcome if one crashed on US territory or if this had involved foreign (ie non US built) aircraft ... Let's hope and pray no more lives are lost.
Nor anyone else who'd not choose to play RUssian Roulette !
The US FAA have ordered multiple mandatory changes ... yet insist the ship is fit to fly ?
And of course NZ (as usual) toes the US line ...
At this stage it's probably possible to argue that any future crashes are 'predictable or foreseeable events' which might let Boeing's Insurers off the hook ! Average award is between 1 and 3 million USD ... that's around 700 million payout plus the costs of the lost aircraft and the loss of revenue to the operators ... and perhaps also 'loss of reputation'
Maybe you need to have more self respect, be more cautious... not throw yourself too easily or quickly ?
Take responsibility for yourself?
One of the TRULY GREAT WOME (Eleanot Rossevelt) stated the obvious when she said
" No one can make anyone feel anything without first they give the person their own permission"
You won't like this of course, and there'll be no shortage of bleeding heart muppets who'll do the 'poor you' and sympathy ... but actually, they will do your more harm than good by keeping you where you are, and providing (futile) reasons for satying there !
Nature, though I doubt we'll see giant eagles dealing to full sized military drones ... though, who knows - maybe if people mutate badly as a consequence of eating US led GM Frankenfoods !
Bit late for the 346 already dead passengers and crew...
Updates to manouvering, flight system control law, pilot displays, operations and crew manuals.
It rather looks like Boeing did the 'cheapskate gaming software developer trick' and unleashed a Beta System - y'know, where they release it and let the punters find the bugs and report back because lots of punters playing games in real life is a lot faster, cheaper and far more effective at finding bugs than 'in house' testing prior to launch.
Wonders if the investigation will go deep as to seek out 'what was known' by Boeing before sales were launched?
But ... well, how can a company of that size actually 'be punished' if / when they put profits ahead of safety?
