RE: Do you smoke the dreaded green stuff?

Yes, I've also tried it. It was quite commonly used when I was a teen and I have in fact seen how long-term usage affected a number of my friends from Durban. Perhaps our marijuana is stronger than yours???!!! conversing Are you talking about occasional use or excessive use btw?

RE: what is the best food to cook for first date?

Not sure about the BEST, but definitely not spaghetti and go easy on the garlic!!!! laugh

RE: how much time do each of you spend at computer ?

RE: Do you smoke the dreaded green stuff?

Well at least in YOUR eyes!!! .... and I guess that's what counts! rolling on the floor laughing and some people don't have side effects if they only occasionally use it, but others do...

RE: Do you smoke the dreaded green stuff?

Yes, although not necessarily all the above. Yes it can be used to lessen symptoms of some illnesses, but many studies show that the side effects are not worth it.

Sorry should have put link in....

One study showed that 80% of people in mental institutions were regular marijuana users. This is not to mention the cancer link.

Sorry, to be a party pooper. I am not saying having it on the odd occasion isn't okay, but the thing is it is far too easy to become addicted, if you have an addictive personality... and how do you know you have until you've tried? You may start off thinking you'll only have it now and then but next thing you know it's every day.

Also it is usually the gateway to more serious drug usage. I've seen it. I've heard people who've been there... and I incorporate it into the workshops I do with teens, because they just don't see how bad it can be.

RE: Do you smoke the dreaded green stuff?

I disagree. Not re: the bottom bit, but re: not seeing problems with it. I don't think it should be legalised, for the following reasons:

It has been suggested that marijuana is at the root of many mental disorders, including acute toxic psychosis, panic attacks (one of the very conditions it is being used experimentally to treat), flashbacks, delusions, depersonalization, hallucinations, paranoia, depression, and uncontrollable aggressiveness. Marijuana has long been known to trigger attacks of mental illness, such as bipolar (manic-depressive) psychosis and schizophrenia. This connection with mental illness should make health care providers for terminally ill patients and the patients themselves, who may already be suffering from some form of clinical depression, weigh very carefully the pros and cons of adopting a therapeutic course of marijuana.

In the short term, marijuana use impairs perception, judgment, thinking, memory, and learning; memory defects may persist six weeks after last use. Mental disorders connected with marijuana use merit their own category in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) IV, published by the American Psychiatric Association. These include Cannabis Intoxication (consisting of impaired motor coordination, anxiety, impaired judgment, sensation of slowed time, social withdrawal, and often includes perceptual disturbances; Cannabis Intoxication Delirium (memory deficit, disorientation); Cannabis Induced Psychotic Disorder, Delusions; Cannabis Induced Psychotic Disorder, Hallucinations; and Cannabis Induced Anxiety Disorder.

In addition, marijuana use has many indirect effects on health. Its effect on coordination, perception, and judgment means that it causes a number of accidents, vehicular and otherwise.

RE: I'm sure it has been asked before but...What do you think of female's with a lot of tattoos?

Oy! What're you still doing up? Isn't it the wee hours there? It is almost 12:00 here! I luuuuuuuuuurve karaoke... but agree that some people should stick to singing in the shower! laugh

RE: Do you smoke the dreaded green stuff?

I have tried it in the past. I don't mind other people doing it, but quite honestly, wouldn't get seriously involved with someone who does it all the time. Why? Because I think it can become a coping mechanism which makes life all warm and fuzzy and stops you from facing the reality of your situation and making the necessary changes. Perhaps because my mom was an alcoholic, I prefer not to use crutches. I've seen what it can do. Also, I've seen friends when I was growing up get addicted.... they just lost all ambition and zest for life. Not for me.

RE: WHAT THE BEST THING FOR CALMING, FROM A STRESSFUL DAY FROM KIDS AND ERRANDS? COPING WITH LIFE?

Thanks I'll keep that in mind if I'm travelling through your area and am really desperate!!!! laugh hug

RE: No one ever has to starve to death in the United States.

Absolutely, let us not forget that too!!!! thumbs up Athough it is the people like GingerBe who can really make a difference in terms of changing the mindset of people who find themselves in this terrible situation. Kind of a bit like that expression: Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. Chinese Proverb.

RE: No one ever has to starve to death in the United States.

Whew. This has been quite a thread to get through.... very interesting to say the least! I agree with your post above GH. It seems to be a worldwide phenomenon? ...and at the same time our govt. cuts all social/welfare programmes so that the people who really need help don't get it. Extremely sad. Thank God for all the every day people who open up their hearts to help them any way they can. applause

RE: WHAT THE BEST THING FOR CALMING, FROM A STRESSFUL DAY FROM KIDS AND ERRANDS? COPING WITH LIFE?

It would appear so! laugh

RE: WHAT THE BEST THING FOR CALMING, FROM A STRESSFUL DAY FROM KIDS AND ERRANDS? COPING WITH LIFE?

I think a good long walk listening to music that you enjoy, then coming home and relaxing in a bath with aromatic oils and candles.... Closing your eyes, breathing deeply and letting all your muscles relax....

RE: Dead man with 20 common-law/visiting relationships with children?

ha ha.... and I thought most men aspired to creating their own soccer team!!! laugh

But seriously, I find that story quite appalling. Unless parents are able to financially and emotionally support a child, they shouldn't have em. I find it hard to believe that guy in the Phillippines does both. Perhaps he offers financial support, but what about the responsibilities and obligations of being a role-model, being a father, being THERE for his kids? Not okay in my book.

RE: they tried to make me go to rehab....but l said no no no

Hmmm. I'm not sure what your title has to do with your content, but anyway...

I think the thing is that as much as we revere honesty, it isn't always easy or RIGHT to be honest because it can hurt people's feelings. Don't you think anyway that truth is subjective? I mean, what is MY truth may not necessarily be YOUR truth? For example, there was an Italian guy I've chatted to a couple of times on a dating site and we then exchanged Skype addresses. While we were chatting he told me that he finds it hard to understand me because he finds my English accent rough! He said he prefers the American accent!!!

I was totally taken aback at his rudeness. Here in SA, my accent is actually quite refined. When I have travelled in the past, many Americans and Australians mistook me for English and most people really like my accent. Anyway, I realised that it was silly to take it personally - that he was just being honest and that it was HIS perception... BUT this is just an example that although honesty is good to aspire to, tact needs to go with it hand in hand! wine
