Dialectics

I have been fascinated for years at where a conversation will lead. An idea is put forward and expounded upon... sometimes it's rational discussion; at other times, personal emotions enter the equation causing people to argue. There goes the discussion... the learning curve as we are subjected to irrational behavior. We lose our ability to be rational once we allow our emotions to rule. Thus the reason Spock was so intriguing to many of us. I recall wondering if I could eliminate emotion from my life, would I be able to handle situations so calmly and elegantly as Mr Spock. What I learned watching Star Trek is that human emotion has a lot of redeeming qualities too. It fires an individual to follow a belief, to make changes.

So at what point in that conversation does the discussion lose any promise to teach us something? Well, it doesn't ... If we separate our personal feelings towards the people's personalities and listen to what they are actually saying, we get some insight. Sometimes the lesson for us is going to be as simple as how we don't ever want to act ourselves. Sometimes we observe behavior that is incomprehensible. After all, we thought we knew the people involved and how is it that they destroyed a perfectly logical and interesting conversation. The truth is, they haven't destroyed it. They have shown us a path; their own anger has fueled them to passionately interject into a conversation without thought as to how others might perceive them. While you might change your opinion about the individuals involved, don't lose sight of the twists and turns that conversation made.

Next time that subject arises, you are going to have some insight into where the conversation could go. It could be a different set of individuals and this time, you might be ready to learn something that was not on the table before.

Life is a learning curve... don't overlook the shadows, simply because the sun shines so bright.

teddybear Welela, you are always so nice. Thank you. I will return to work regardless...If I am sore, it's to be expected. smile

I am not sure what people do when they retire. I believe I might be lost were I to even consider eit.
Abagail when you are old enough to get retired it will be quite different, then to go home with any sort of sickness or accidents. You will think of this in a whole other way then you do now. I can tell you I am sort of retired and I have plenty of things to fill my day with. It was very hard in the beginning, but I have gotten used to it now... so life is really good in my eyes. teddybear
Welela... thank you for giving me hope. I sincerely have gone a bit stir crazy for the last few days.

I was thinking I might have to hire a pool boy when I retire...

and ... I don't have a pool. innocent
LOL and yet even more LOL... Well, a poolboy is something we ladies should have when we get older. Just to pamper us and to tell us we are great womenfolks. No, I promise when you get to the age your close to be retired you will be happy for it. My cousin got retired this year, and she still enjoy the freedom of not going to work and ease down. So you just wait, it will be alright, promise!bouquet

Del, not sure I'll be able to watch him as James Bond ever again wow

Abagail, with Dialectics I'm sure these days the doctor should be able to prescribe some tablets confused or even ointment you could rub in it dunno
Benni, I have certainly conversed on that bridge. It does move by the way... My daughter used to like jumping on it because I was scared of heights. smile
Hi Z, handshake

He had to start somewhere, he wasn't instantly born as James Bond. cheers
Z! Imagine how it was for me after that first image!!!

... geez, dialectics is something I seek out, not add a cream to avoid a rash. laugh
i dont mind heights myself, terrified of falling do
laugh Touche, Benni. Whereas I struggle with them and push myself to get past it.

I went on a suspension bridge in Queensland and had to learn to breath again in one place.
well the way i deal with height is if im at a height of say 30 feet,i think to my self if i fall off this im goin to be in pain, but if im up a couple of hundred feet and fall ill be dead so no point worrying bout it(im sure theres some logic there somewhere)
laugh I like your logic, Benni... I recall going on a chairlift thinking the same one day. A couple of years later, one of those chairs fell and my nightmare happened to someone else. I certainly would not have gone on them if I had realised it might not be safe. (apparently I don't use logic)
A very insightful blog entry. Of course the other drawback to aspiring to Spock-dom is the fact that Vulcans only procreate once every 7 years.
Pray tell why a Vulcan's are any different to me?blushing laugh

Thank you, Manof. I tend to just get an idea and go with it... then others simply have to endure my thoughts. grin
I photoshopped my pointy ears out in my profile photo, so please don't be embarrased
laugh A man who knows how to photoshop...ooooh la la. Now how are you at the bridge of a ship?
