Man’s Best Friend In The Sea.
Dolphins are not known to attack humans and several cases have been documented of dolphins saving humans from drowning. The have also been observed to attack sharks in the vicinity of humans. Dolphins are very efficient shark killers, attacking them in packs, ramming their snouts into the gills of sharks.Scientists believe that the Dolphin was a land animal very much like a dog before it returned to the sea. This is not very difficult to believe when you compare his behaviour and interactions with man. Only dolphins are much smarter than dogs.
Like dogs, bottlenose dolphins understand pointing, which is one if the things that chimpanzees have problems with. Chimpanzees look at the hand pointing whereas dogs and dolphins will look at where the hand is pointing. If you consider that dolphins don't have arms, this is perhaps even more amazing.
Dolphins demonstrate self-awareness and will recognize themselves in a mirror. Like elephants, they will also recognize and inspect marks placed on their faces.
Dolphins possess very good language skills, and are able to understand signs, gestures and general words like "ball". They can also recognize objects with similar characteristics. They understand numbers and they're able to understand and react to questions about objects outside of their immediate field of vision. They can process both verbally and visually received information. They can even recognize and react on instructions given on a television screen which is something chimpanzees must be trained to do.
Dolphins are capable of problem solving and using tools. It is not unusual to see dolphins swimming with sea sponges on their snouts to protect them against the prick of spiny fish.
Another interesting thing about dolphins is that they may have sex several times a day and that the p*nis of the male dolphin is not just a sex tool. He will use it like a hand to inspect things.
In several studies bottlenose dolphins were found capable of considering their own thought trains. This is an indicator of self-awareness and a higher consciousness.
It is sad that - as with our best friends on land – we are not always their best friend. I find it strange that some animals can still be hunted and killed.
Have a great Saturday.

However we must make our own world pleasant and reach out to others when we can never giving up small things make a difference.
They are such friendly animals and it is one of the joys of sailing is to get a school of dolphins swimming with you showing off their grace.
It is sad that while there is a ban on hunting them in most countries, there are still countries where they are ruthlessly hunted ans killed killed.
These are marvelous animals and they probably do know more about us than we might suspect. After all, they can 'see' inside our bodies and maybe can sound us out more deeply. A definite advantage.
Sorry cat for intruding but yes I do know what you mean but what can we do about it. show more videos of the beautiful creatures being slaughtered, hear their cries, then more people might get digusted, but some Nations have restrictions on info you see,
My friend, something went wrong here and I cannot follow that link.
These are fantastic animals and one cannot know enough about them.
Yes true, and everybody will say: 'What a shame.' and forget about it again.
We should not trade with such countries. Let their economy feel it and they will mend their ways.
I think I can recall reading something about this. I cannot help to wonder if that dolphin was not provoked. Even the friendliest dog will bite if provoked. Not saying it is so; just wondering.
I've been wonderin' too about that. Here inFlorida we hera about shark attack, but not dolphin attack
Must have been something like that or perhaps the specific dolphin had a bad experience with a human. Dolphins attacking humans are extremely rare. The are very friendly animals that appear to like humans.
Fantastic animals they are.Their brain can half in sleep while another half in work.If I can do that, then I would not miss the station when over sleep on the subway.
Enjoy your weekend!
I love your blog. I am always fascinated by animal behaviour.
I knew that "orcas" or killer whales are "shark killers" but I did not realize that they are dolphins.
Thanks for posting.
Hmm, when I was still young I fell asleep on the train once and missed two stations before I woke up. It was the last train of the night and I had to sit on the station for four hours waiting for the first train of the day.
Now that is another difficult customer. I don't know much about the orca but I heard they are quite destructive creatures. I'm not sure if I understand you last sentence correctly but I did not realize they were close to dolphins. I thought they were closer family to the whales.
Well described. I can see the picture in my mind.
Hmm, and the scientists did not understand Spanish.
I wonder who was watching who?
baby......this is the best blog.....
Dolphins i always have some good feelings
for them....
They are amazing animals. Delightful to watch in nature. They are inquisitive and not shy to approach man. Rated as the second most intelligent animal above chimpanzees; not including humans.
Orcas, or killer whales, are the largest of the dolphins and one of the world's most powerful predators. They feast on marine mammals such as seals, sea lions, and even whales, employing teeth that can be four inches (ten centimeters) long. They are known to grab seals right off the ice. They also eat fish, squid, and seabirds.
Dolphins are one of my favorite sea creatures. Thanks for the info.
I would love to be able to swim with the dolphins one day...
Planet Earth is blessed with an abundance of animal life. To me the dolphin must be the crown of our animals. Such gracious and friendly animals.
They are wonderful creatures and it is a sin that they should be hunted and killed.
Perhaps you have done that without knowing. The do not always advertise their presence.
Just kidding but your wish may still come true. It is a realistic wish and quite possible; not like some who wish to feed with the sharks.
Feed with the sharks?? Not in a million years! One look at me and they would definitely think it's their lucky day with me being so meaty and all that!
