It Drives Me Mad
Don’t you just love it to find a lot of junk installed on you PC after you have installed one of these free programs? They mostly have a dialog box to ask you if you want to install the third party software but sometimes there is not warning at all. Other times they hide to option to decline the offer so well that it is easily missed.
I have switched from Internet Explorer 8 to FireFox a few months ago. Yesterday I decided it was time to remove I E 8. While removing it, I was provided with a list of programs, installed since I E 8 was installed, warning me that these may no longer function. And true, a few of them did not work. I was left to re-install them. A few were of these free versions.
After reinstalling the not-functioning programs, the new unwanted applications started showing up; mostly downloaders, diagnostics and back-up utilities; popping up at the most impossible times.
I spent all morning getting rid of the thrash and the traces they leave behind. Uninstallers seldom remove everything and never clean up the registry behind them. Bad entries in the registry not only slows your PC but also may cause it to hang.
I run a very neat and carefully tended PC (internally) and don’t have a load of junk sitting on my hard drive.
I really think software vendors should be forced to display their intentions more clearly; not everybody has the know how to clean up afterwards.
We're getting closer, it is Wednesday.

Thanks, I'm seriously looking at Linux. I will look at your links.
RE Firefox, I have very few add-ons and am very happy with it. It is only when I update that my settings goes astray but I can live with it.
Are you talking about the good old days of Windows 98?
Yep, that is so.
but to come back to Win 98; I loved it. I felt the same about it as XP. I stuck to it bypassing Win ME and Win 2000. Went staright to XP from there. I guess I'm just to conservative to resist change like this all the time.
Also,I pay special attention to what some of those Freeware Programs offer to install beside the Software promised!
On that Snapfile-Site they usually tell you if a Freeware-Program offers to install "Extras"!
Been using that Site for Software for ages now, even before it was SnapFiles, when it was still named WEBATTACK!
Why buy Software when you can get it for free?
Bob;
The files has the name on it. It shows what is popping up.
Also! Take it, to an expert. Be ready to pay!....
Thanks, I remember webattack.com and will look around there. I have tried some uninstallers in the past but none had impressed me so far. I will give REVO a go. It is so much easier to have an uninstaller that takes care of it all than having to run other applications afterwards to clean up.
I prowl around the corridors and passages of my hard drive and when I see a file I don't know I Google it. Nothing is left laying around here.
I more or less fulfill that role in my family. It seldom happens that I would visit a relative without spending at least a few minutes on their computers. Even when there is nothing wrong, I must look to see if all is ok.
Since I've got nothing intelligent to contribute....
Hey, I brought my kids to watch 'The Fault In Our Stars' tonight.
Thank god I brought along loads of tissues coz I cried like a baby
For a moment out there I thought I was working again.

:Awww!....
I said tripping! duh....
I meant trip.
You just can not spell, can't you....
Nope, I cannot spill.
