Catching A Liar
It is said that if a lie is repeated often enough, it will eventually be believed as true; no matter how big the lie. And the worst is that the bigger the lie, the easier it is believed. It sounds so unbelievable, therefore it must be true!Lying is a repetitive action. A lie left on its own will soon betray itself. It will quickly need another lie to cover some of the inconsistencies of previous lies. This is what makes some people such excellent liars; they will tell a small lie at first to pave the way for a bigger lie to follow, which is then swallowed hook, line and sinker.
Because one lie leads to another, and another and another to keep up continuity, the liar needs to keep track of his lies. This is best done by believing his own lies. At this stage lying had become a way of living and the liar’s entire life is a lie.
The problem is that the liar not only lies to Mary, also to Peter and Paul. But Mary, Peter and Paul are very different individuals with different circumstances and therefore need different lies to fit the situation. This can work ok if the liar can keep track of his lies… until Mary, Peter and Paul get together one day.
Liars tend to repeat their lies. And they will invent new lies to justify old lies. They allow their lies to grow by adding bits of detail every time the story is told. This is where the small inconsistencies come to light. Their undoing in the end!
To catch a liar, never challenge him. Let him believe that you believe him. Ask for detail if you must but only superficially. Never interrogate him. Given enough rope he will hang himself in the end.
I am a good listener, especially for what is said between the lines and for what is not said at all. That is what normally betrays the accomplished liar. Lie to me once and I will never believe that person again; not even when he speaks the truth but he will never know that.
Relax man, it is weekend.

lol, Nam that is the truth!
I wondered who would come up with this first.
Yes, I found it so. I have caught quite a few.
Your name changed slightly but the nature of your comments on my blog is still the same.
I posted a similar blog more than a year ago and I remember your response on it. That was before the 'again' was added.
You have a nice day too!
This is the problem about lies. They multiply faster than flies.
And consistency is a great virtue.
It may be why we are all here on Earth. Maybe some people on another planet have a different name for our planet.
Who can we believe these days?
I do not lie ever!
(Cat does not have to look at my fingers... )
But I love interesting stories...
I like for example the story of King Philip and Queen Leticia...
( guys this in Spain... lol)
And let those who think they know their great sins erase their
tongues on their teeth
Guys envy worse than a lie... ENVY mother lies !
I love you Cat... and remember - I do not lie ever!
Great seeing you again.
I know you never lie.
Eish, my finger slipped again. Wrong emoticon.
Maybe so or maybe this is heaven. There may be some other place that is worse.
and thank you Caaaat!
SO...lie is sometimes helpful.
I know that he who lies will never be my friend...
if I recognize a lie I will never do business with this man...
or will not his wife...
or do not trust my secrets ...
or he can not hurt me...
Great!
No lie unto some cases useful!
I say, if they like lie just let them do, their vanity need to be satisfied ... What can we do? Only kick them out of our life.
No matter the color of it, it remains a lie.
We all lie sometimes but not everybody makes a habit of it. Still, there never is an excuse to lie.
I never tell somebody when I discover their lies. I let them live to believe that I believe them.
Some people lie because of personal inadequacy in their lives. Maybe they don't get enough attention. Consequently they tell lies to receive attention. There are many causes for lying. This is just one.
Have a great weekend!
I still believe that most people are honest. I trust most but not unconditionally. I do scrutinize a bit.
I loved that TV series 'Lie to me'. Wonderful stuff. I do perceive a lie fairly easy when face to face with a person. On line it is not possible but the truth comes out at some stage.
I wonder if the realize how miserable they can make other lives by their lies?
Upi state that people lie for different reasons and Jim said some due to feelings of inadequacy. I observed this in someone close to me. He only lied about one particular thing is his lie and it started when he was young BUT as you pointed out this did indeed lead to other lies to cover up the one lie.. It was quiet a big lie and eventually the truth came out.. thing is he actually believed this lie happened. It left his children wondering `Who really is my dad and if he lied about that, what other things has he lied about?` It can damage relationships if not put right and help sought where necessary.
Of course some just lie for gain or even to be unkind about someone else..
I am sure it has been stated... ``But honesty is truly always the best policy`
I personally do not have a good enough memory to lie ... TRUTH!!!!
Only your last quote was true.
Very much so. And when a lie is discovered you cannot help but wondering what else this person has lied about. That is why I say there is no such thing as a white lie. Anything that is not true is a lie and half the truth is also a lie.
All the actions that involves dishonesty are the children of deceit. If you can live with the one you can live with them all.
You only need to tell the truth once and your advice will no longer be sought. It is well worth the week of 'atmosphere'.
Just go fishing for a few days and pretend you don't notice it. When you come back she''l be ok again.
When I was small I squeezed out the all the toothpaste one day. When asked about it I denied it but I was the only of the siblings who could reach there. The hiding I got was for the lie.
We always got off easier by being honest and admitting to our misdeeds. Honesty was rewarded and lies were punished more severely.
You were a very fortunate fella. Mine would never have given me my way for that long.
