Charity

How charitable are you?

If you had a lot of money and want to donate to a program, which one would it be?

Why?

What are the closest things in your heart that you would want to get carried out or changed, or improved?

Me personally, I come from a proverty stricken country and ignorance and health care is very difficult. I would definitely put all my efforts in this regard.

NOTE: Bill Gates has compeltely taken care of the almost absolute eradication of polio in the world. And so many other things his $40 billion dollars donation is taking care of.

Thank you all for your participation...

NOTE: THIS IS NOT ABOUT ADVERTISING WHAT WE DO TO HELP PEOPLE, SIMPLY TO ENCOURAGE EACH OTHER ON THIS GREAT UNDERTAKING. HOW CAN OTHERS EMULATE US IF NO ONE KNOWS HOW TO INITIATE IT? It definitely is not that arrogant attitude of giving, look at me attitude. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

Have a nice day/evening my dear readers and fellow bloggers.

Pedal I'm deeply touched and thank you so much for being you.

Of course our sense of charity is not only on money, what counts most are our gestures and little things we do for those in need. I personally have done so many of the acts you've done Pedal and you are blessed.

I will pray that your loneliness will soon be sated.

Thanks.
wave Funny that you asked. This year I did something that I don't normally do. As a friendship deed, I gave to a guy I know who runs a rather successful charity that provides music therapy for disabled and very sick kids. They also give instruments to the kids. violin

Normally another friend and I do a good deed once a year by helping someone or multiple people who are desperate for medical treatment. She's a doc and I know how to work with money and move stuff. I like our little system better because we have no overhead and administrative costs. What we do goes directly where it's meant to go.

What goes around comes around, you know :-)

I am aware of that Alex, like here in some places of San Francisco. By mission district specially.

Last time I was in Geneva, I wasn't expecting all the poor ones by the underground metro but so much compared to 30 years ago.

Thanks Alex.
Nidi, all the little things that we share and give to people mean a lot. During my full time employment for more than 35 years, we have a united care that is big on taking care of battered women, I have signed up for 10 percent of my paycheck to that program. I had a niece who was once in their care and in my involvement, I was so touched that I just had to renew every year, but we do get the report every quarter. Much like my little involvement on the Human Rights program.

I'm not quite completely retired yet Nidi but I once committed myself to the Red Cross until a year ago when I had to work part time a little bit more.

I believe if all people in the world would truly help each other in anyways we can, our society would definitely improve.
Hi Lindsey what a lovely blog. I beleive that `Charity never faileth` and that whatever acts of charity we do.. will not only bless the person receiving it but will equally bless our own personal lifes too..
I was very touched to hear the things Pedal has done.. It all starts with the little things.. the things that dont seem a lot to us but mean the world to the receiver... that kind gesture, that hot drink for a cold man, the touch of a hand when feeling alone or hurt.. these things warm my heart.heart wings
I am so grateful for those who have shown me charity in my lifetime one way or another and hope that I do and can extend the hand of kindness to who ever I see in need.
When I was a little girl I always wanted to run an orphanage .. as I didnt want children to not have a mummy and daddy to love them.. I guess I would first and foremost in my heart just want everyone to know they are loved and special. There is so many many directions to go.. so not sure just where if I had a lot of money... but I do now what and where I can.

I love that on this site there are such good good hearts... heart beating hug hug

Lin, I totally agree with you about each of us helping the other. What you do is fabulous. I totally support helping womens' shelters. They do great work and have saved many lives. Helping never goes out of style! and you will never be un- or underemployed in the helping business wave
Hi LJ,
We have a Good Friday appeal every year for the Royal Melbourne Childrens Hospital. (Victoria, Aust)
It is a telethon and each year more money is raised than the year before.
I donate $1,000.00 every year.
Seeing as it is for a childrens hospital, i feel it is a donation well worth it. (it is the only appeal i donate to as far as money goes).
Last year the appeal raised in excess of $19 million.
I have been known to participate in Fundraising ventures where i may have my hair cut to help raise funds, or grow a moustache to help raise money, and the last one i did was the "ice bucket" challange.
Wallops kindness is never earned. I believe that there are really people whose heart and ideals are that of being able to help others. For me it makes me happy. I am not kidding, if I saved all the monies I have sent to my relatives as far back as second cousins and nephews, I would have been a millionaire by now, but it comes from within you when you know deep in your heart that there are families who would just love to smell that food you have. And the excess of us here in this country just break my heart.

One time there was a documentary on how food is wasted in Las Vegas, but now there is a company who raise pigs and buy all those wasted food from all the restaurants that discarded these from the left overs.

I am never forgetting those days when as a child, I had one banana for lunch and maybe just one egg for dinner. But I went through without complaint and my parents raised all our vegetables and animals and we had butchered some of those lives once in a while.
It is very sad Alex when we are taken with our generosity. It is a crime. I wish there would have been a way for you to submit that to the authority because that is plain fraud and swindle.

I am sorry about that. But your direct help do count Alex and thank you so much.
If i had the money i'd use it to purge the world of all the evil doers that run the world for their own interests.

If everyone thew some in the Till, soon we would have a world worth living in comfort
Love I love your cynicism against people and their hypocrisy. The devil must really be working for their behalf. Look at that someone just put a blog that says, all we do is for showing off? How contemptible can these people can be?

Thanks Love.
Not really donate money. But in my home town I did charity for books I call it "Indonesia for reading", cos in my country at some of city/place much of young children can't read yet specily children of school age (7 above) even some teenager. With bit benefit of work & friends work who much at field site I ask them to.bring it & give to school.at village or some small community book club at village. Hope by that will help them to have encourge to read. It is mix kind of book be somekind of manga book/comic, novel or even school book.
Also I charity for clothes that we're not using anymore.specialy uniform school clothes. I still doing this even I'm not Indonesia just info friend to friend & they will mobile it at there.
Our hope there are no more kids who can't read & they can back to school
Hiya Lindsey, Like Pedal says, it´s nothing to do with money.

thumbs up

Charity can be done on a daily basis by doing a few good deeds for society.

In my case, for example, once in a while I do a house clearing and donate a lot of clothes and other things which I am not using to charity shops.

As you know, I also help in animal rescue centres - horse centres - with their daily care.

I also help many people in one way or the other, either with some healing work I do, and sometimes just by helping them along the way.
I also help kids with their homework, go to medical centres with people who need translators, animals who need a home, and whatever I can to make this world a better place...wave angel teddybear
nice blog...
as for charity well as for big charities then no i would give a cent ,,why simple because the bigger the charity the more the man or woman at top take out of it in salary and very big salaries at that,,so where is there charitable concern !!!!! i worked on a charities committee where by all employees donated by their own choice a certain amount weekly and we as committee members had to release the funds to deserving causes !!!! and we never ever gave to major charities,,we only gave to local charitable groups as they had no means to get the help that the big boys get !!!! and back to the big boys again,,,
well the people that donate to them are truly wasting their hard earned money,,why easy just look on tv the local press or even at the peeps shaking cans for these big boys ,,,how much do think a tv advert costs !!!! how much does the glossy flyers cost ,,get my message they are spending money donated to a cause trying to make more money and the guy at the top gets more money not the charity,,,so i believe charity begins at home or very close to it and not in a big concern that will end up donating 10 cents if you are lucky out of every dollar donated as the running costs take the rest ha ha that is some charity,,,,there you go just my thoughts
Lavina thanks for sharing. Yes indeed, those that you mentioned are far more effective in sharing our compassion to the needy. Thanks.
My dearest friend Minerva, wow I have missed you there for sometime. What a pleasant surprise to see you. And I'm aware of all your great missions specially for the animals. I am truly admiring the efforts you give to others specially in the healing. I truly want to meet you.

I'm bound to France and England in September, I would definitely want to meet with you?
I will private mail you.

Edison what a nice feeling to see you. Hope you had a nice new year.

Thanks for your participation. I can see the easy corruption entailed in the donating world. Much like Alex have elaborated. Nothing wrong on the direct efforts of helping.

Thanks Edison.
Ed I'm happy for you. I know some organization are very ethical on their function of giving the help solicited for them. St Vincent de Paul is big on feeding the hungry.
I do too, my friend..I am so happy with the results of their effort specially the Red Cross.

Stay warm my friend.cheers
I don't brag about being a charitable person I just am.
