lostabone: So why and for what reason we impose and except that thing that's called religion ?
I do not accept it. Religion is about money. You don't think so?? Why did a religious sect in USA ask money to buy a 65 million dollar airplane?. Having seen a 4 year old girl with her head cut off in the name of religion its bad. Prayer does not work............ask Bobby Brown. You are a muslim?, your religion tells you to make bombs and kill people??.
Religious people are two faced, they hide behind their religion, l was told to my face by an ultra religious Christian that someone we both knew hid behind his religion.
Between all the religious people that my companies have done work for they owe around 185,000€. That is 'religion', eradicate it fast.
Simply put it like, when we are on the edge and/or at times when we lose hope, may be due to terminal conditions/familial issues/financial crisis, we need somebody to put our burden too (friend/family has limitation that start rationalizing),and we look towards God as that person, where we share our worries and it eases our mind...It is a system that has developed through the years and slowly got systematized into religions and its subdivision.
In spirituality the hierarchy is a bit complex with Atman Sharira ("I AM" Body ), Brahma Sharira (God Body) and Nirvana Sharira (absolute Body).
lostabone: So why and for what reason we impose and except that thing that's called religion ?
Quite easy why.
Religion has been used for thousands of years to control and scare people, none of it in any form is true as anyone who has a brain and can think for themselves know.
We have facts to prove the world is older than any religion.
lostabone: So why and for what reason we impose and except that thing that's called religion ?
Religion offers succour from this thing called life. Forgives us our sins of the past and offers hope for the future, two of the most basic issues people have for contentment. Thats the basic premise imo.
Not that I believe.
As regards Jesus. Would recommend the book, Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth by Reza Aslan. Sets out to show who he was through historical facts and is extremely enlightening.
Da_Moose: Even though I am an atheist, I wonder why the question was asked...what is to be gained? Religion is a personal choice.
Exactly It concerns me that there seems to be a lack of tolerance and respect with this. Actually, I'm getting pretty tired of all the hate mongering in the forums lately. One thread encourages hugging one religion and this one the opposite and then we question why there's wars.

Dang! Getting to be winter out west!
Yeah, I know....I have been "banned" from a couple threads for preaching "tolerance". Time to promote cooking! Canadian style!! PS - I do not hug religions, just really nice people!

Thanks! yeah, if everybody were like these two....hilarious series on APTN! Life is far too short a ride not to spend most of it laughing....
Live life hard, laugh loud, fight HARD, but in the end, realize we are just people....
Maybe my attitude is ever so naïve...but then again, you may not want to be going into the corner with me looking for that "puck", or my attitude that all people are created equal (except for women who have an edge on guys)...always ready for a fight, but spoiling for a life well-lived and a handshake at the end!
Well, in Christianity Jesus is God's son... But I don't see the connection with your question... Every normal person knows that religions were man made to rule the masses...

read, learn, believe..............controlling the masses is important, otherwise the masses cause anarchy. Believing in goodness, means you won't degenerate into evil. When you are faced with choices............recognise the differences.

Do not let it affect you. Let it all go because at the end of everything you look grown up enough to know that people are evil and religion starts all wars and people hide behind it(and it was an extremely religious woman that told me that).

Agree. But if you were looking for goodness in "religion" and its teachings, to follow in your life...which one would you choose ?

I would choose my own path of course, the one that I'm on at the moment. Not something someone else has written about, or mandated, expressed as the only way, as if it were divine, or destined to be.
You have choices, as well as the right to live your life free....don't waste it living under someone else's oppressive regime. That would include all the world's religions, political parties, and most of the "individual" mindsets.
Just be you, yourself, it's actually the best thing you can be, to be real to everyone, and yourself as well. Don't portray yourself to be anyone else, other than who you actually are, even if it's difficult for you yourself.
Religion can be used to find spiritual enlightenment, but it has it's limitations. To find true enlightenment, you have to go beyond religion, and observe.
All religions are like staircases to a higher self, the staircases (religions) might be different, but they're all in the same building, leading to the same place. True religion is the religion of humanity, the stairs lead you towards true religion just as the words of Jesus (or the person who spoke those words) will.
I believe whoever spoke those words was a truly enlightened being, far beyond religion. Eastern mystics have been saying the same for centuries, true religion lies within....
"Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.” (Luke 17:21) With these words, Jesus gave voice to a teaching that is universal and timeless.

Reminds me of led Zeppelin's 'Stairway To Heaven'.......
There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold And she's buying a stairway to heaven. When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed With a word she can get what she came for. Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to heaven.
There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure 'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings. In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings, Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven.

I don't choose any "religion". I just believe in God. I like the stories from the bible and believe they are an accurate depiction of history. We can argue all day long......it all comes down to belief.............and I DO believe if we chose the path of goodness and kindness every time confronted with a difficulty, then we may all work towards harmony. HOWEVER, "if your ego's bigger than mine I will annihilate you", seems to be the mantra of the day.

Ooh, it makes me wonder, Ooh, it makes me wonder.
Maybe Messrs Page and Plant are enlightened beings also...
"Now Jesus is just like Colonel Sanders, they're just using his picture. The difference is, Colonel Sanders was bought out, Jesus has been sold out, and so have you if your a Christian, because you've been framed, for something you didn't do."

I really like his conclusion. Everyone should plant more potatoes. Potatoes are like synthetic trees that absorb twice as much CO2 as trees made from virgin wood cellulose fiber.

But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt
