Fallingman: I am so happy for you that you may remain a superpower....but bear in mind that most of those other markets fell because of the wave of instability coming from Wall Street and their implication in the American sub prime loan bundles. Blaming others for their carelessness in loaning you money is hardly the way to encourage inward investment in the future!!

Not according to Bret.....this was a 3 month falling of all the financial markets of the world.....not just the US market. That the other have fallen further in a the same time. They had bad banks in Europe as well.

Sure our is the largest market....and our bank failures were larger in comparison. But a couple of the other WSJ articles are saying that European banks have been living with near liquidity and solvency issues for a long time as well.

Note how fast the Iceland banks went bad. It was because also they had made some very risky loans in the middle east and elsewhere. So they also have some in the US banks. Our banks fail that they have loans with...and the line of domino falling might begins here...but it is also because they are overextended in middle east with bad paper as well.

Bad paper is not just a Fannie and Freddie issue, Fallingman. Bad paper is all over the world right now.

Fallingman: Speculation is not peculiar to Europe...I think they do it on Wall Street too. I think the fall of the dollar in last year or two (though it is back up a bit recently) is a lot to do with the incredible deficit being run by the US government.

There we do agree.....defict spending here and elsewhere...is a big cause of this. In my opinion the single biggest reason.

Washington Post contribution:

October 14, 2008
The GOP Is a Mess and a Fraud
By Eugene Robinson
WASHINGTON -- Since George W. Bush became president, the Republican Party has presided over massive, out-of-control government spending, converted a federal budget surplus into a half-trillion-dollar deficit, and looked the other way while Wall Street's greed and stupidity turned the hallowed free market into scorched earth. Now the party has to watch as a Republican president orchestrates the biggest government intervention into the workings of the private sector since the New Deal.
Can any Republican candidate claim with a straight face to represent the party of small government? For that matter, can any Republican candidate plausibly explain what the party is supposed to stand for these days?

It's pathetic to hear right-wing talk radio blowhards try to associate Barack Obama with "radical" or "socialist" views when a Republican administration is tossing aside "Atlas Shrugged" and speed-reading "Das Kapital."
The Federal Reserve even announced Monday that it will make unlimited quantities of dollars available for currency swaps with the Bank of England, the European Central Bank and the Swiss National Bank, as these institutions scramble to keep major commercial banks from failing -- and potentially taking U.S. banks with them. None of Bush's Cabinet members could be heard sniffing about the effete irrelevance of "Old Europe."
This attitude adjustment is necessary, mind you. The question isn't whether some kind of drastic, frankly socialistic measures are needed to save the American economy, but which ones -- buying up toxic mortgage-based investments (as the White House said it would do), buying up the troubled mortgages themselves (as John McCain wants to do), or pouring money into selected banks and taking part ownership (as the White House now says it will do). Sitting back and letting the dire situation correct itself is not an option, because the market's phoenix-like solution begins with self-immolation.
Politically, though, there is at least some justice in the fact that a Republican president has to deal with this Republican-made crisis. That little piece of irony isn't worth $700 billion, but so far it's all we're getting.
(contd)

StressFree: Anyways, Obama announced today to "spread the wealth around" with his tax plan.

I think this spread the wealth around tax plan will only gain more votes among undecided middle class/working class voters. You know, the voters who don't care about smear campaigns, but do care about their economical future.

Obama is a sharp man and is clearly running the clock out on McCain. Obama needs to stay aggressive and not go into a prevent defense mode.

Fallingman: But Conrad......

Tony Blankley = Right wing columnist
David Freddoso = right wing columnist

and.....

(from Wiki)

Freddoso took a leave from his job with National Review Online to write the book. The author previously was a writer for Human Events and a political reporter for Robert Novak's Evans-Novak Political Report.

The first press run of the book totaled nearly 300,000 copies, and it appeared on the August 24, 2008 New York Times Bestseller List for hardcover nonfiction at No. 5 (the list reflected sales for the week ending August 9, 2008; the Times stated that some book stores reported receiving bulk orders). Publicity for the book is handled by the conservative public relations firm Creative Response Concepts, headed by former Republican political official Greg Mueller. Creative Response Concepts also organized publicity for Unfit for Command by John O'Neill and Jerome Corsi, and for the 527 group Swift Boat Veterans for Truth during the 2004 United States presidential election

A familiar pattern here......liars for Bush have transformed into liars for McCain!

Everyone is entitled to their view but to suppose that this stuff is fact as opposed to conservative opinion is to go too far!

Tainted information rather than tainted victory!!

Conrad knows all this perfectly already........

He Says he is a so called Libertarian you see?

Libertarians........... Endorsers of Bushney,s AS WELL ........But they are just not talking loudly about it, and Claiming a lot sutff which is not ture any way....... and confusing the election as much as they can, and they all vote Far Right any way laugh

Great news from the NY Post:
O'jahnae Smith is ready and registered to vote this November.

There's only one problem: She's 7 years old.

The Connecticut girl is 11 years too young - and nobody in her family knows how she ended up on a voter registration form submitted by ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.

"She's registered to vote?" said a surprised Jerome Smith, O'jahnae's teenage brother. "She's too young to vote."

But that didn't stop someone from forging the child's signature on a voter registration card and giving her a fake birth date that upped her age to 27. The family told The Post a drug-addicted relative may have given the bogus card to ACORN.

Voter registration fraud complaints like these continue to mount for the group, already under scrutiny in 11 states where hundreds, if not thousands, of new registrations are being questioned.

ACORN volunteers have been found to register dead people and even put members of the Dallas Cowboys on Nevada lists.

The community organizing group has a long history of flooding low- and middle-income neighborhoods in election years with temporary workers instructed to register 20 to 25 voters per day - or risk getting fired.

Most states prohibit paying per signature, but ACORN workers earning $8 to $9 an hour still have to hit their quotas. And many need the money - including some ex-cons in work-release programs.

ACORN's controversial tactics have fueled John McCain's criticism of Barack Obama, whose campaign paid an ACORN spinoff - Community Services Inc. - about $800,000 to knock on doors and urge people to vote for Obama in four key primary states: Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas.

In his pre-politics days, Obama ran the Illinois chapter of Project Vote in 1992, before it hooked up with ACORN.

McCain campaign manager Rick Davis on Friday called for a freeze on taxpayer dollars to ACORN until recent allegations have been investigated.

Meanwhile, state authorities in New Mexico, Indiana, Missouri, Connecticut, Ohio, Florida, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Nevada have launched probes of bogus voter registration forms filed by ACORN.

Roberta Casteel, a nurse, is one of several dozen Nevada voters caught in the web of fake ACORN registrations. Casteel, a registered voter since 1991, was shocked to receive a letter rejecting a voter application she didn't know she'd made.

Authorities said they'd received two voter applications in her name: one as a Democrat and one as an independent. Both cards had her address, date of birth and Social Security number, and were submitted by ACORN workers. Neither signature matched her original one on file.

A former ACORN worker in Pennsylvania has already been charged with 17 counts of identity theft and forgery.
