Life (time)

Look at our birth - does it ever seem a curse?
Or a miracle that happens - nothing more?
Does our time go on endlessly - or worse?
Or does full life time break us like a whore?
All that I hope, - is we should find some peace -
All that I hope, - is from our life's rich store -
Is that our dreams will go on endlessly;-
Or when life ends - so does our suffering.

We cast our eyes across time's boundless sea
We cast our eyes afar - then ask for more.
Look into the sky - vast blue infinity -
Or look back - to the days and years of yore.
Look back in time and see rich history -
Then look ahead - what has destiny in store? -
To seize this cherished snowflake's chosen moment -
To love and hold what we have this instant.

Day By Night and Night By Day

Why did you make the setting sun
That would color the sky so vast
All orange and red and pink so spun
Such imagery of an eternity last

Though many days and winter grays
Did you fade away without a trace
Tonight you paint the sky with rays
Bending through a prism of space

Burns a cauldron full of gaseous fire
Clouds steam away as they slowly race
Up and away from a burning pyre
Whisked away by enduring grace

Sitting here along a rocky shore
I bid farewell to see such fading glory
Thoughts to beg my mind implore
Such do heaven’s lights tell a story

Soon darkness washes black this muslin
Spreading emptiness across the sky
Until the stars prick holes by the dozen
Such as only my dreams can imply

And rest I must as sleep prevails
Awaits the coming of celestial dawn
And another day of light travails
And another night of darkness gone

BED, BOOK AND HANDLE

SHE SAT ON HER BED, HE IN THE DEN
SHE WITH A BOOK, HE WITH A PEN
SHE WAS READING ABOUT LETHAL DRUGS AND THEIR USE
WHILE HE SAT WRITING A SINCERE YET FAR-FETCHED EXCUSE

SHE CAME DOWN AND SET THE TABLE
WHILE HE DID WHATEVER HE WAS ABLE
BOTH HAD SOMETHING TO SAY THAT WAS REAL
BUT FIRST THEY WOULD EACH SHARE A MEAL

A YOUNG ROASTED LAMB, PEAS AND CARROTS
AND THEN BOTH BEGAN TO SPEAK OF THEIR HABITS
HER'S WERE BENIGN BUT HIS WAS OF GREAT CONCERN
AND BOTH PARTNERS HAD A LOT TO LEARN

SHE HAD A PROBLEM WHICH HAPPENED TO BE HIM
AND HOW THEIR FUTURE SEEMED FAR TOO DIM
THEY USED SOME MONEY TO DRESS THE LADY WITH CHARM
SOME FOR RENT, FOOD AND THE REST TO SHOOT UP HIS ARM

UNFORTUNATELY THERE WOULD BE NO COMPROMISE
FOR SHE WAS INTELLIGENT, HE NOT QUITE AS WISE
SHE DEMANDED AN END TO HIS DRUG ABUSE
AND STOP USING THAT WHICH SHE DEEMED REFUSE

FOR TRASH IT WAS TO A LADY SO SWEET
BUT HE SO ACRID AND INDISCREET
SO BOTH CLIMBED THE STAIRS AND INTO THEIR ROOM
SHE TO PACK HER BAGS AND HE TO RESUME HIS DOOM

DIVERGENT NEEDS WOULD KEEP THEM APART
SHE SO SOFT AND HE WITH HIS HARDENED HEART
SHE PACKED HER BAGS AS HE USED THE BATHROOM BUT NOT AS A JOHN
THEN HE AROSE FROM THE TILE AND TURNED THE KNOB ONLY TO FIND HER GONE

IT HURTS TO RECOLLECT THIS SORDID STORY
AND UNFORTUNATELY IT WAS NO ALLEGORY
IF THE TRUTH BE TOLD IT WAS AGONY
FOR SHE WAS LOVELY SHE AND I WAS A DESPERATE ME

author's note....it is acceptable for James Taylor to rhyme Boston with frostin' because in song it sounds okay. However, when someone, no names mentioned, uses the word "oughter" and jams it into a poem to rhyme with "daughter" that person should take at least one year of Analytical Poetry (i took two) or abandon poetry for prose.....does anyone remember the word "order?" This is only my opinion and you can take it from whence it came. ~f.C.!~

No ideal answer

There is no ideal answer to life's
dilemmas or its demise

No ultimate thought or idea
or eloquent word to enlighten
our eyes

All there are but perceptions and often projections
Just individual interjections hoping somehow we can pause
for reflection

We can ask how and why the innocent must suffer the price
of the guilty's vice

We wonder why that at a time life gives us much then it starts to take away

To ponder our best and darkest moments
the choice of which we value the most
As we chase the wind of wisdom
from coast to coast

Ah but can we hear the songs
between the noise of screams and languish
The songs of beauty and love
that touches us like a dove?

Can we hear the silent cries and solemn sighs
As we wipe away the tears from our eyes?

Have we forgotten or discarded our innocence
and closed the door to recompense?

Is there still a time and chance to
forgiveness and healing
or are we just empty shells without feeling?

So many faces from so many places
They offer their stories and put on their masks
See how they cry for love but still afraid to ask

We can wait forever for that ultimate thought or feeling
We can hope for that magical
word that will send us through the
ceiling

We can search the four corners of the earth for that pretty smile and fiery eyes of desire and put on the miles between

We can hold out for that ideal partner in disguise thinking they are going to be the one to open our hearts and minds to make us wise

Yet, nobody or nothing outside of ourselves can give what we already have hidden within

Our list of accolades and certified achievements
Our fancy vocations or golden investments
They mean little when we are sick
or in bereavement

Things and people of this world shall pass
Yet, everything and everyone that made an impact in our lives great or small that is what matters to us all

Can anyone hear the call of love and healing or has everyone become deaf to the noise of their groaning?

Have we lost the faith and just plain given up or are we just waiting for whatever we find by potluck?

What's the use in complaining that one cannot find the love they seek
Maybe it will come if we spend more time and energy giving love to the low and meek

let the yeats be kind

this cabin be
the same as real
though the texture
has a different feel

her fingerprints
upon the door
scuffed heel scar
upon the floor

in walked she
as moonlit shone
her ghost a'rest
upon my own

the lake her eye
oft frozen there
in forests
of her chestnut hair

I cut and peeled
a hazel wand
with berried lure
to fish her pond

I pay my line
into her fear
to catch the last
remaining tear

to bring it home
beside the fire
to dry her pain
with my desire

and when a moth
of star doth sleep
our hearts will rid
all will to weep

Dragon's Domain

DRAGON'S DOMAIN
Into the Dragon's domain
Did I and my loved ones
Stray one day
A foul beast it was
All fire and appetite
And an all-seeing eye
It marked my loved ones
One by one
Then consume them in its
Mouth of fire and abomination
Only I did survive intact
To tell the tale of that day
A tale that no one can believe
Or dares to believe is true
Better to mark a man like Cain
And the blame on him to place
One day I will return
To the Dragons lair
To face it once again
Like Beowulf resurrected
My axe and sword in my hands
As I face the beast anew
In the death fight that
Will take place that day
With my final strength
With my final strength
I will plunge my sword into
That fiery evil eye
And the Dragon will scream its last
As the filth of its life
Pools around my feet
And it shrivels and dies
No more friends and lovers to consume
Redemption for my imagined wrongs
And a tribute to Saint George

A Poem For My Fellow Poets

Can you see us bent over kitchen tables
And our pencil's warm erasers
As we pour our hearts into liquid words upon the lowly page?
Can you see us stopped in parking lots;
Searching for scraps among the floorboards,
Then, with pen to note, we scratch a word to show a life, a love, and age?

We who fight with nature
Never searching, always believing,
We strive against cold, heat and drought to keep the wolves from the door...
But the battle seems wan in comparison
To the war with words we wage,
As we seek to convey a thought, a poem to live and last forevermore.

Why, we were fine and fancy...
No cares beyond the gate
Our only worries keeping calves alive and shipping them eight months later.
Until we tasted immortality
On this life's stage or 'round a campfire
And you, who come to read our words, became the instigator

So we take it all in and write it down
In between the endless chores
Amazed and honored that there are people who read and listen and seem to care
We try to make you laugh and cry
In portraying all we really savvy
And somehow make it all of value and something worthy to share.

Most give little thoughts to such an act
This trying to capture in ink a sunset
When an artist or a photographer can hardly succeed at such a task
Without film or paint or music
Armed with only our imaginations
We connect the dots and record our lives
Our future and our past.

Thus we dance with you as partners
In this waltz of verse and lingo
As long as you continue to listen, we'll try to get it right
With words that bind us close together
Transcending time and borders,
For we are the poets
And you are the reason we write.

Waste words

If only I could shred all years of my past
And find myself as young as I was wont one time.
Years of endurance teach us that much:
Knowledge, experience aren't gained overnight.
But no matter how precious, dear-bought a gain,
Knowledge, experience compare but in vain
With youthful exploits and bountiful health,
Breathtaking adventures, eccentric escapades.

Oh Youth, the less you're paying heed, the more you will regret.
If young, Old Age, I wouldn't give a damn about what you say.

The lil box

Come my friend..walk
with me
I know the sun is hot
and the day is long
The nights are cold and
lonely, and the road
seems much to long
You go into the city to
feast upon its delights,
and once you've had your
fill you come away empty
Whe you're alone in your
chambers you try to unravel
the mysteries of your own mind
as though it were a toy under
a christmas tree
But what have you found as
you tear the brightly coloured
paper with all its external glitter?
There it was! A little lock box with
a golden key taped to the side..
A small card attached which read:
'Your mind inside.'
Excited, you grab the golden key
and pop open this mysterious box..
You pause for a moment as a frown
falls over your face
Where was your mind?
You feel cheated..
You feel ripped off..
And empty box you cry out?
'Where is my mind you shout
out!?'
For days you remained in your
house refusing to see anyone
Days turned into months, and
then months into years
You became a bitter old man, and
would only drag out your mind box
to see if anything would materialize
Finally when your very old you make
your way to the dusty shelf and take
down your mind box one more time..
You open the little box and just stare at its
emptiness
Overcome with with all your sorrow
and misfortune, you shed a little tear
which falls into the little box
Suddenly the box begins to glow!
You feel a change in your body!
Your wrinkled face begins to feel
smooth
You find yourself back under the
christmas tree again just like when
you first opened the box!
You are young and alive once
again!
All those years searching for your
mind, and yet the golden key would
not reveal her secret until you deposited
a lil tear in the box..
You closed the lil box feeling all warm
inside because you have discovered
that your heart was always the key
to your mind-

The Infinite…

I notice that my heart is always working,
And I notice all kinds of things reside in my heart,
Sometimes hard things, sometimes easy things,
Sometimes sorrow, sometimes joy,
Sometimes apathy, sometimes great zeal and passion,
Sometimes my heart is at war, sometimes my heart is at peace,
Sometimes I notice love, sometimes I notice hate…

Within me reside all kinds of things,
The love a father has for his children/grandchildren,
The love for a soul-mate,
The love for my fellow human beings,
The love for a sea-gull,
The love for a pet,
The love for a wild, roaring ocean,
The love for beauty in all its infinite forms…

But, also within me, sometimes hard things reside,
Impatience, anger, resentment, fear, judgment, despair, melancholy, lack, pettiness, and wanting…,
Wanting to be somewhere else,
Wanting something to stop,
Wanting something to improve,
Wanting, wanting, wanting…

Also within me I sometimes detect a searching,
A long, deep restless searching for the answer to it all,
A searching for the Infinite,
A longing to be one with it from now on and forevermore,
I touch on it here and there,
But, mostly it is ever so elusive,
Ever so just out of reach, much like the haunting image of a paradise-like mirage you wish you could blend with and never be without again…

For now, though, I keep walking to my destination,
What it is, ‘I wot not’,
But, one day, I may get to the stage where the Divine consciously breathes through me 24/7..., aaahhh, what bliss that would be...
