SINGAPORE

Singapore not a place to be,
If you love guns but can't keep,
The laws here are Damm strict,
With fines and canning for the law you break.

Just try spitting or chewing a bubble gum and you'll see.
You be at the dock before you can say cheese,
Clean and green is our sunny city,
With shopping malls to tease your senses freely.

Remember we are also world's food paradise,
What you want and need you can get it easily,
We also have the world's first and only Night Safari,
And anytime anywhere water and electricity.

English is our medium speaking language,
Others included is Tamil,Malay and Mandarin,
You Will be greeted with the warmest smile,
From the natives that comes in all form of lifestyles.

Help is never far away,
Don't mistake me for a moment,
I'm not here to sell you my country,
Just saying it honestly and faithfully,

We have the ugliest road users in Asia,
Count your blessing on the road if you are a motorist,
For men this is a special warning,
The public toilet is not for the faint hearted!

Poppies for Peace

Take up our quarrel with the foe
you speak in voices of the dead.
Our battles fought not to win at war
rather win at peace, the Prophet said.

The torch; be yours to hold it high.
On this, certainly, we can agree.
When the torch shines for freedom
for you to be you and me to be me.

Veterans put their lives on the line
paving pathways to build up peace.
Replace dogma bricks with diplomacy
ensure goodness wins, not ends in defeat.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
seeds of memory scattered through air.
White crosses lattice the landscape
great losses human hearts must bear.

It’s poppies for peace I want to see
swaying their message in gentle breeze
reminding us of the price we pay when
love sits back and fighting does the deed.

No Place Like Home

I've never had a place I could call home
Just like a Gypsy I have always roamed

In three different countries I have lived
At five different times
And in between all that I could never find

A place called home
To call my own

So I moved and I moved
Never staying in one place for more than a couple of years
Wondering what was driving me to search for my home

Then three years ago
I awoke
And realised what I was looking for

A place where I could belong
A place what I could call my own

And it had been with me all the time
I had simply been to blind

Home is where the heart is
Home is where your love lives

Not what's around you
But within inside you

Different countries
Different cultures
Different cities

travelled I have a lot
And now I'm tired

Its my turn to now rest in my real and only home

In my Galaxy

Honey, I'm Feeling Lonely, Honey, I'm Feeling Blue

Hey there, Baby, I'm all alone now, the kids are tucked in bed.
When you left just a few days ago, I remember what you said.
You said, "Babe, I really love you, the time will go by fast.
Before you know it, I'll be back and the future will be the past.
So keep your chin up and hold the fort down, give the kids a kiss each day.
Tell them, I'll bring them back a special gift, from a land quite far away."
Well, I've tried to take these words to heart, but the time is going slow.
I know you think that I'm real strong, but there's something you don't know;
And that is,

Honey, I'm feeling lonely, Honey, I'm feeling blue.
I wish that you were here with me, or I were there with you,
But what can't be, can't be, me with you, you with me,
So take my love into your heart and hold it tenderly.

Well, now Baby, in the daytime, the loneliness hides away.
But when the sun goes down and the lights go out, that's the loneliest time of day.
I can't help but want you near me, your warm touch and gentle kiss,
The pillow talk that we'd have each night is what I mostly miss.
I overheard our children praying, saying bring my Daddy home.
So tonight I felt it right to just sit down and write this poem.
We can't wait for you to come home, it'll be a special day.
It seems to help to write it down, and to say what I have to say.
Except for tonight when,

Honey, I'm feeling lonely, Honey, I'm feeling blue.
I wish that you were here with me, or I were there with you,
But what can't be, can't be, me with you, you with me,
So take my love into your heart and hold it tenderly.

Please, God, Bring Them All Home Safely!

Dien Bien Phu

Embedded image from another site

Lessons learned
by first the Chinese
then France
and the Unites States...

Never underestimate
unconventional units
or guerrilla warfare
supported by regular units...

Dien Bien Phu
Bernard B. Fall
called it
"Hell in a very small place"
soon after 1954
America walked the "Street without joy"

The Viet Minh
attacking satellite positions
seven in all
such names as

"Huguette"
"Claudine"
"Gabrielle"
"Beatrice"

General Giap
former school teacher
later besieged Khe Sanh
saved only by B-52 air strikes...

What men will die for
makes less sense
as time goes by...

Perhaps it is
the unspoken honor
among comrades
and brothers...

Still they soldiered on
60 years has passed
and around the world
the madness has grown...

Menin Gate Ypres.

No court here played to feathered Kings
of once grand plumes and pompous things,
long since quenched and forgotten lie,
thier wanton greed doomed so to die,
riding high from the storms of fate,
the pen of justice did to all await,
to walk anew the sun blessed road,
relieved, once the down trodden native abode,
as now, beneath life's tranquil shade,
a monument to peace, here forever laid,
no glory plied or ingenious shame,
just freedoms unconquerable name,

its banners claim no marked grave,
just homespun joys they cherished gave.

About this poem:
The rich patriotic ritual played every evening at the Menin Gate, is a spine chilling reminder of the futility of war, engineered both by Kings and Politicians alike, the cattle slaughter house a more humane place to die than the Fields of Flanders.

Shopping-cart wrangler

The shopping-cart wrangler stands leaning
on his trusted blue-hided steed looking
across the aisles...miles of aisles for
his errant stead, aimless and wandering,
shiny and gaunt, slowly grazing the lot.

He's traded his cowboy hat for a hoodie
and his boots for some black high-tops.
Still the winter winds bite as they fly
across the blacktop lines and scatter
his herd about the white-lined plains.

He'll go out again, rounding them up,
getting them in line, head to tail,
and silently push the ruck with his electric
pony back to their corral and into
the shopping-cart barn for eager buyers.

"Armageddon"

I lay there for hours
cheek pressed to damp soil,
breathing through one nostril
least the enemy still toil...

I dozed off and on as the sun
and moon traded place...
Crickets sang while ants
formed beautiful black lace...

Working feverishly in the red pond
haloing my head, warming me,
I slept until the cricket choir
opened act three...

Not as loud now, I strained
to hear their melody...
Yearned for them to sing louder,
sing, sing for me!...

Are they leaving or am I,
where is the black lace?...
Job complete the ants marched on,
their bounty carried to a hidden place...

Floating now, high above the fray,
I see, in dried mud encased,
something familiar yet strange to me,
the imprint of my face...

Destiny

Swirling up into the sky, escaping from the abyss of the alibis.
Memories inprisoned by walls of stone.
Words sprouting as if cast out of devils home.
Years and years claimed its ground.
Roots reaching to claim their destiny.
Through territory of times that are gone.
Traveling sometimes entwined sometimes alone.
Standing unshook while winds beat it with their souls.
Summer comes with colors green covering bare limbs.
Oak tree standing proud facing morning sun.
Thanks to wind for leaves and nuts that came undone.
Little oak growing by its side.
Destiny.
The rains cried!!!
