A Moment In Time

In quiet moments
a somber tone falls
upon my mind

Time and space is
of the essence

And I am here

Only here

I strain not
against the winds
of fortune

The motions of
the stars I put
no trust

He who is greater
than I will ever
be so

I pay deference
to the Ancient
of Days who
has no shadow

Peace

'smart alec'....a composition...

The phrase "smart alec" arose from the exploits of Alec Hoag.
A celebrated pimp, thief, and confidence man,
Hoag, his wife Melinda, and accomplice "French Jack",
operated various con games in New York City in the 1840s.
Most was done by pickpocketing,
with Melinda taking the victim's pocketbook,
while the victim was otherwise engaged,
surreptitiously handing it to Hoag or French Jack.
The key to this activity was that they did so,
in close association with two police officers,
who shared the loot and provided protection.
In the "panel game" trick,
Melinda would make her victim lay his clothes
upon a chair near a secret panel.
She would then take him to her arms
and closely draw the curtains of the bed.
With the dupe not likely to heed outside noises,
she would cough, and Alec would slily enter,
rifle the pockets of every farthing or valuable thing,
then disappear as mysteriously as he entered.
The victim was persuaded to hurrily leave through a window,
when Alec banging on the door, posed as an aggrieved husband.
Hoag used this trick to avoid paying off the police.
When he was caught, the cops were in no mood to aid him.

About this poem:
A "smart alec" is a person regarded as obnoxiously self-assertive and impudent. Various sources suggest that Alec Hoag was given the sobriquet of "smart Alec" by the police for being a resourceful thief who outsmarted himself by trying to avoid paying graft.

Poems from my Youth: (4) - My Love For You

My love for you
is like cool slow rain
from an April sky
with gentle droplets
whispering of love
as they kiss your face

My love for you
is like gentle sea breezes
on a hot summer's noon
bringing healing's touch
from some far away land
to soothe the weary soul

My love for you
is like the dawning sun
chasing away the darkness
with golden sunbeams
that radiate with hope
of a better day

My love for you
is like all these things and more
for even if the rain ceases to fall
and the breeze forgets to blow
and the sun shines no more
my love for you will always be there

SILENT SENTRIES

I salute you as I walk by
Silent and still against the sky
Day after day all through the year
Standing tall and without fear

Through the hot sun of day
Standing in your dress green or gray
And the cool dew of night
Greatly admiring your height

Through winter and frosty times
And the crisp cold sunshine
Glittery swirling snow all around
Or the dead stillness not making a sound

Very impressive I must say
Looking at you as I walk by each day
Handsome - silent - appealing to see
Only swaying slightly in a breeze

I'll always see you as I walk by
As you stand highlighted against the sky
Guarding over the park each day
Watching everyone walk and play

About this poem:
Love to look at these trees when I walk in the park each day. The winter picture reminded me of silent sentries standing guard.

The Abyss..of Desire

Take a journey
to the heart
of desire

Into the abyss
of passions
fire

Through waves and
waves of liquid
love

Steaming up daydreams
miles above

Through swirling
currents
of uncharted
regions

Your soul is
snatched by
passions legions

Through a web of
cracks does
reason seep

Violently
tossed in this
breathless deep

This eternal fire
is ever burning..

This Heart of Desire
is ever Yearning..

standing alone

I am not here to judge
anymore than I have been
many a times, I could've drowned
among the dreams of the living dead
but I chose to stand up
one more time
so I know I can withstand
more sorrows, more pain
more slashes that bleed my wounds
in many a thousand pieces
if only to know
even death can't stop me
from knowing
that...yes...
I am still strong

and yet
standing all alone.

A Lover's Prayer

In a strange and far off land
Two lovers met in a small world
He took her heart and she his hand
Somethings were meant to stay untold.

The secret of two lover's hearts
Intertwined in sacred bliss
Surpass in mind the deepest art
What words can't say are in a kiss.

So let us banish those sad feelings
And longing for that far off land
At least while we can hold each other
With vows that are not "traced in sand".

Dilemma Lemon

I got something you want to read
You got something you want to say
But you can't say a thing cause you don't write

Now aint that a dilemma lemon
So here is another line
Won't you take another bite

Detectives are everywhere but poetry is not a crime
Are you mad because my hair won't completely disappear
No it's stuck at just looking fine

I think I'll take a stroll a little walk
Enjoy the scenery along the way tote an umbrella in case of rain
I won't complain and when it's a sunny day you can fly a kite

Now aint that a dilemma lemon
So here is another line
Won't you take another bite

Humility Before Honor

Embedded image from another site

Lord,
I come to You thirsty for Your Mercy and Grace,
Tormented and humbled, naked and ashamed.
Just a man stripped of his armor and all of his pride,
But I always knew I stood as a child in Your eyes.
I will not ask for Your forgiveness ever again,
For I know that He has already died for my sins.
I took You for granted and sought to do this on my own,
But Lord I now see I can't do this on alone.
The more my directions led me further away from Your light,
The more I felt empty from this raging sea thats inside.
I am asking for shelter and peace to make the seas calm,
My punishments well deservered, but I know that it had to be done.
Humility before Honor brings me back to that place,
The beginning of Hope to see Your perfect face.
Please give me my wings for just a moment of flight,
Im no longer the weak one whose spirit cowards from fight.
Lead my footsteps to Wisdom, but let my heart become free,
Forever Your son and like Him I will be.

My Pirate Queen

A lonely voyage
with direction lost
when out of the fog
she appeared

Stranded in deep waters
when into my path
she steered

She captured my vessel
taking me aboard where
she fed me her stolen
delights

Now with my Pirate Queen
I'm sailing the seas..
we vanish into
the night..
